  1. Nice tone! Nothing that is really wrong here, just a few small things: Your general tone seems to be a bit closed at times, a Eddie Vedder-kind of singing that needs a little more energy and support if you want to do it like that cause like this it sometimes seems like you are not reaching the notes fully. For example you sing something like "daag" for "dark" and dont open the vowel fully. You could play around with opening it more and with that the notes could come even easier. Try to make your tongue flatter because for me that closed sound often comes when my tongue is blocking my air path. As for the bridge where Ed does his wolf-howling-thing if you want to reach the note better and move closer to Ed´s sound then you are letting to much air escape through your vocals folds. He as a fuller sound that is not so falsetto-ish. He is singing a tight "uh" there. And that is all, nice rendition!
  2. Awesome sound!!! The jazz part was really good and I also like the metal part. Interesting to hear a prog song without high vocals once in a while. But for my taste there could have been a little scream in there, maybe at 00:52. How did you mix your vocals? They sound really good.
  3. Wow! Really good. I didnt like the original because of the autotune and muddy vocals but I really love your version.
  4. Post an example of your tone. That way we can give you proper advice to fix your specific problem.
  5. Open embouchure more, lift up and pull back, do the warm up. Show us a clip of you warming up. I suppose you have the Pillars or where comes your idea of sirens from? Also that sounds like a yodel because it is. Take a step back with the volume. I saw you having tension in the throat. Check your breathing.
  6. Voice type is of nearly no use in contemporary music. It does have to do with your tone but nothing with your range. There are a bunch of untrained tenors that cant hit high notes to save their lives. Low voices can sing higher. But high voices cant sing lower because from what I know the thickness of your cords determines your ultimate low range. Stay relaxed in your jaw and sing downward. Check your breath. Sing to the lowest note you can hit that resonates without the fry sound. Thats your low range for now. And even that doesnt determine your voice type necessarily (I cant hit a F2 without fry come hell or high water...) You sound fine in your example, a little bit weird in some manerisms but the original has something like that too, so just keep going.
  7. Errr, Sleeper, you do realise that the recording is not Geoff? @Metallic, It sounds dope to me. But make sure those notes are not strained. I cant really tell with some of those notes if you had to strain to get them or if it is just an effect. For example at 2:38.
  8. Nice Cover. Like your tone, like the feeling. My tip for you: Take it slow! You rush in the chorus and in some parts of the verses. A song like this lives of the honest feeling. With a slower pace you can achieve that even more. Also maybe cut back the riffs and runs a little bit. They are really cool but to my ears you use them so often that it loses its effect. Range wise and general vocal technique wise this song is really easy. So the most important part here was the tone and the feeling. You nailed both. So maybe next time try something that challenges your range a little bit more?
  9. The Jared Leto thing was just in case. I think you sounded stronger than him and not so screamy. I just listend to their new album and was a bit stunned by his really fryish sound.
  10. Dont worry Neko your english is fine. I mean, it also just my second language so who am I to judge? But, yeah, I can understand everything you wrote ( I think the thing that is the hardest about this language is the tenses, all this stuff with going to, will, and so on. I try to stay away from that even though I understand it). So back to topic. Now I can give you a bit more detail about your performance. It sounds really cool. So on "Kings and Queens" you are straining and that is also were I have a problem with the pronunciation. You are singing "We are the kIngs and QueIns". The "I" is killing you there a bit. It closes of the sound and gives you also that unhealthy distortion that comes from the throat. In the original Jared sings more of "We are the kAngs and QueAns". My advice is to listen to this part in the original and to exagerated this pronunciation becouse if you close the sound so hard it will damage your voice in the long run and fatigue it in the short run. Try to sing more on an really open "Ah". Also I would help you to throw a short "h" in before you start with the "we". Take the background chorus (the hohos). Listen when you start those. You start with what is called an wind and release onset. You first let a litte bit air trough (that is what you will use the "h" for) and then "release" the sound. Try that. It will give you more freedom. (More such techniques you will find in the Four Pillars of Singing, which is a great product by the way) The other thing i didnt understand was "we are the phantoms of ourselves". I didnt understand that right because what I hear in the original lyrics is "we are the victims of ourselves". Next thing is "Maybe the children of a lesser god." You kind of swallow the "d" in "god". Try to make a very short but audible "d" at the end there so that it doesnt sound like you would sing "gou". The short d will create the illusion to the listener that you are indeed singing a real word. I heard also a few more lyric mistakes ("Into your lies" instead of "Into your eyes"). Take a look at this: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/30secondstomars/kingsandqueens.html At 2:17 you are swallowing the last "se" from "defense". You are singing "defe". At 3:14 you are swallowing the "s" from "the darkness comeS at dawn". At 3:22 you are swallowing the "s" from "lessons". You are singing "lesson". At 3:24 the lyrics are "we´ve learned here" and not "we learned here". Also on "here" make sure not to only sing "heaaaaaaare" but also throw a very short "hieaaaar" in so that it sounds more like the actual word. Make the "i" really really short so that you dont close up your cords but it should be there so that we can understand the word better. So all in all a great performance but try to open the sound more and avoid to sing long "ihs". Make them very short. In "maybe" when you would sing "maybiiiie" sing more like "maaaaaaaaybie". Try that out. If you work on the ending of the english words it will sound more natural and your accent will not become so apparent in the singing. The endings can be short. Escpecially if they are something like an "ih". But the endings have to be there. Otherwise your accent will shine through. You will gain a kind of "singers" accent if you train that. For example when I talk you know that english is not my first language but when I sing - not so much. Also a word of warning: Dont imitate Jared Leto on the way he belts. If you listen closly he is slamming his vocal cords together really hard on some notes and he is using an "ih" sound often. His voice is really crackly fryish in high notes now which to me seems like vocal damage. So work that open sound so you can really continue to sing amazing.
  11. Cool singing here! Doesnt sound strained to me. Or is it? Nice tone, you caputred the spirit of the original while also giving it your own mark. Try to work a bit on the pronunciation of the words. Sometimes it is not possible for me to unserstand what you are singing. Also, I know that in the original there is the same level of effects but purly for feedback purposes it would be nice to hear your voice a capella.
  12. My own vibrato story (haha, he said vibrato) is also training two different things. First I did the scales where you alternate between the notes faster and faster and therefore stretch your cords or something like that. Classic SLS. But I gave up after two weeks. And the month and years after that a natural vibrato came thru because I was just singing more than I had in my whole life. Now I am better than ever with my technique and I have to take control of my vibrato if I dont want it to just happen. In rock songs its a bit annoying. :D
  13. Love M. Shadows. He had lesson with Ron Anderson. Also really cool guy.
  14. Hey, nice one! I really like the english version. You certainly have the feeling and the tone down I think. But everything is a bit shaky to my ears there. Xamedhis advice holds true to this version also. Work the support, try entering the call "register" with the exercise Xamedhi wrote down and incorporate that feeling in your song. It also will help your vibrato. (Here is a cool video about that also )
