  1. Yes you're right. I could personalize more my singing and I often do it with a live group on my back. In that kind of venues I'm free to duet with the instruments and to change the melody line too. But I'm a 45 years old singer as hobbyst semi preofessional in small pubs, restaurant, piano bar, with backing tracks, and usually works better if we stay more close as possible to the original sound of a song. I do it only if it comes natural not with an artificial and unnatural position of the mouth and the face. Some friends of mine defined me chamaleontic for the way to "sound like" a lot of singer and different styles of music. And luckily it works with the customers of the pubs and bar where I sing. But I agree with you that could be much satisfaying to be free, much more free to interpretate and sing everything... Thanks as usual for your listening and suggest :)
  2. It's a long time I didn't posted my covers here Today I told myself.. to begin again. Your contributions have been very useful to improve and correct errors I begin with atrack recorded some months ago... one of U2's tracks I like more.. Unforgettable Fire https://app.box.com/s/30o9jlbjb2rinpg100zz
  3. wow great thread it's a long time I didn't posted anything here... I spent more time in some italian forums were I'm involved as noderator (and I'm still) But I never forget tis forum and many of you guys that gave me ever precious feedback (I ever remember ronws as one of these). I love Queensryche but never recorded anything you gave me a good input to do it with this wonderful thread. As I'll be able (here in this pc firewall blocks all audio source as box soundcloud youtube etc...) at home, I'll hear all your tracks... Have a good day... (morning evening night.. as where you are all over the world...) Cheers from Italy
  4. My accent is terrlibly italian... :D:D altough a lot of italians.. have worst than mine.. .. About the instruments.. no.. I use a backing track, mine are all the voices and choirs. I put the backing track in a Reaper channel (the DAW I use) and create the vocal tracks to mix. Main second choirs etc. At the beginning I used an harmonizer for the choirs, then as I take 4 - 5 takes before to choose the one I like more (or the parts), I discovered that usually puting together 3-4 takes to create the choirs in the refrain works better and sound more natural than harmonizers. Altough sometime could create a delay effect if the takes are too much different.
  5. I'll see again the channel strip on my reper project, but there's only a double track in choirs, and no chorus and no delay.... I can't understand which "gear" give this delay you hear. I'll give a look this evening.
  6. Thanks George, I took this song. more like an exercise... not pretending anything I know it's at the top of my range, this track like something else I posted here, I heve a lot of material I sing in my voice, much comfortable, but.. sometimes I like to explore my limits and find a way to overcome them. I would like to know something more about the exercises you could suggest me to work on the extension. At the moment I only sing cover (I'm not a composer) and usually using backing tracks that ... force a bit the interpretation. When I have the chance to work with a group or with a different arrangement I have more chance to personalize the track. Thanks for your listening and your comment. :)
  7. Sometimes you love a song so much that you want to try it... altough it's impossible. This is my attempt... I hope not disastrous. I'm at my vocal limits ... and in some point .. I have no more... but.. this is.. http://soundcloud.com/giannicugno/owner-of-a-lonely-heart-yes
  8. Here I am... I changed the mix, deleted one of the 2 vocal tracks on the main vocal, and left the doubles only in the refrain and choirs... I think the result seems better... http://soundcloud.com/giannicugno/amanda-boston-cover-by-gianni what do you think now? Thanks for your helps
  9. there is no delay (effect) only reverb and not so long (14 ms) I used in the refrain two or three takes so there could be a small delay between the takes. And naturally as I'm not a computer the human differences in small pitch between the takes. The choice to suspend the voice in an ethereal level slightly back and not in front was a choice for the kind of song. I can move a little in front simply turning up voice folder gain. I don't remembre the detail of the chain. I can verify and report here. I discovered yesterday (much stronger in another recording) that the daw create a small disalignament between the backing track (coming from an avi file) and the vocal track after the rendering. This explain a lot of "timing problems" of different entity found in the old recordings... In the backing track here there is a choir too (I added mine) it's possible the disalignament is due to the rendering that changed time of the backing track. I finally solved it.. since the next recording, I think could get better. I took months to understand what could have happened.. as.. I heard everything going well, render.. and... after the half track... the sound was out of timing...:/:rolleyes: I'll check asap.. if this "amount of delay" is due to the disalignament... between backing choirs and mine... after the rendering. If so.. I'll correct and post it again... Thanks for your comments :)
  10. It was some month I didn't posted anytihng new. I was for 5 months without my studio pc, then a home moving, last I changed style in my recording using different gear and less effects. What do yo think about this result? http://snd.sc/Y2zjZA I'll accept all you honest critiques to improve my singing and my recordings. Thanks.
  11. I would like to hear some comment on this track too.. thanks...
  12. thanks everyone for the attention gave to my performance... Only some notes to be clear. No autotune or pitch control used.. the pitch shifting come from a detune.. given by the chorus effect. It can sound not pleasant, someone likes it someone no, more not... probably. It was a choice, not to copy noone, I tried the range of effects.. and.. I liked it... so I used. I can accept all the consideration and take avery suggestion good to improve. But that was my voice and the notes were mine. I like that song, the original one, for the emotion it gaves me in my life... Now this is mine, no intention to copy, but only to emotion myself singing it. I understand taht when someone have in mind on original version, try to compare... I think that few artists here but professional too, can be "compared" to an original.. if the original is strong in mind of the listener. One times in another forum a girl contested a different melodic line from the original... Noone can do nothing... with this approach. However, many of this comments have been very helpful, to find really where to improve and work... I'll try to take all those suggestion for the next time...
  13. They've been the first rock group I heard and I bought a LP. This tribute is a love tribute to thei music, altough I know all the difficulties in this track. If I can define wow much difficult is a track to do.. I could think to the time necessary to do it sufficiently. Probably this have been for me.. one of the hardest job. A midi converted backing tracks haven't help me as some accent necessary for metric reason.. are not well accented in this backing.. However.. this is the final result... http://snd.sc/GMQy6w
  14. thanks ronws for your suggest... I could had been done directly with doubling choirs quit the same machine (Voicelive 2 that can made it) Probably next time.. I'll try this other effect.
  15. I liked that effect altough I know it can mesh a litttle bit the sound... What kind you suggest for this track? every suggest.. for the future is very well accepted... :)
