  1. I forgot I made this thread lol. I'm gonna have to say Pink is a lot better now since she stopped smoking. I never even thought of the fact that she smoked before.
  2. That was great raphaels! I wish I could write songs that good, but I'm working on that lol. How old are you?
  3. I think you need to be more into overdrive on that probably, like others i think you should try it in overdrive and post a clip. I think Adam does a lot of overdrive and curbing but he goes into overdrive pretty high a lot.... And on the Seal clip I think he is twanging more than you and that is part of the reason why you sound different. Adam uses neutral some but I don't think he uses it a lot.
  4. Kelly Clarkson: She seems to be doing fine there, and that was a year ago, and she usually sounds better than this nowadays from what I have seen, and if she does this: (from a while ago) or this: . She also wears her voice out because she almost never lip syncs. I can understand Carrie Underwood not being one of the best technically but I haven't heard any vocal damage from her. Celine does the miming so because she wants to keep her voice in good shape so she can keep recording with her voice, and to avoid singing with a worn out voice like Kelly, I also don't think she is the only singer on the list who lip syncs at times to keep her voice in shape. They are also really good live, at least Celine is when she does sing live. If I were to discount vocal damage in this Mariah would be nowhere on this list lol.
  5. I'm not too sure about Shania either. I don't know about Christina Aguilera either but don't get me wrong she is amazing, although recently I feel like she has gotten a lot better, so maybe now I guess. CARRIE Underwood is really good too, her voice has always reminded me of a better version of Martina McBride I don't know why. Amy Lee is great too, and Annie Lennox. Skykotix those are some interesting choices, very diverse, but they are good. Jennifer Nettles is great too, oh and Reba, Leanne Rimes, and Faith Hill too. There are a lot of great singers in country music, but I feel like other genres require more a lot of times. As for the Filipinos, there is also Regine Valasquez and Charice(just look away when she makes Celine or Whitney look like they've never been overdramatic lol).
  6. I forget Barbra, and Lara was the person I was thinking of that sounded a little like Celine I think. I tried to keep it a little more open but I don't know many women in other genres I guess lol. Oh there's Natasha Bedingfield too. I kind of think Pink gets extra points because of her control with the way she sings, it sounds like her voice is falling apart sometimes but is completely controlled and I have no idea how she does it, I know there's probably some distortion but that is all I know lol. Btw how is the whistle voice going? I remember listening to a post of you doing some whistle notes and they were pretty crazy.
  7. Yup, I think Steven should at least be in the top 10, Steve Perry should be higher up on the list too. I don't know much about Jackie Wilson but from the things I have seen of him there are better lol. 1.Adam Lambert 2.Freddie Mercury 3.Steven Tyler 4.Steve Perry Despite how new Adam is I still think he is possibly the best male singer ever. He just has too good of control and power.
  8. Got idea from Videohere(bob right?) lol Just wanting to know what female singers you think are technically the best. I'm also gonna say that if Jessica Simpson was consistently as good as some of her performances she could be on here, but she's not....so too bad lol Here it is, I'm going to try to put in their training as well, adding what people mentioned as well Kelly Clarkson(classical) Angela Gossow(something to do with screaming) Mariah Carey(trained by her mom, an opera singer) Jennifer Nettles Aretha Franklin Faith Hill Celine Dion(classical) Reba Carrie Underwood(classical) K.D. Lang Cyndi Lauper Annie Lennox Patti Labelle Tarja Turunen Minnie Riperton Whatcha think of Sarah Mclachlan, Jennifer Hudson, and Beyonce(although she has never made xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx(don't ask)xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx me say wow) Ann Wilson Pink(untrained) Christina Aguilera(untrained) Amy Lee Pat Benetar Sarah Brightman Sarah Geronimo It would be very difficult to put these people in order lol, because none of them do really well in everything. If I excluded whistle Mariah would take a hit on the rankings, but she uses it so gosh darn well lol. Pat Benetar, Ann Wilson, Mariah Carey(ignoring damage), Pink, and Kelly Clarkson a decent top 5? Not necessarily in that order, only one I think for sure should be there is Pat Benetar, shes friggen in her 60s or something and is still really really good. Mariah does crazy riffs, and runs and makes full use of her voice and has power and unique tone. Ann Wilson has a big ass powerful voice along with Pat. Pink does many things with her voice no other singer could ever dream of doing with how it sounds like it is falling apart but it is completely controlled. Kelly is really well rounded also when she sings she sounds lower than she really is which is strange to me, and when she started to get around a high f high g area her voice sounds like it is exploding out of her.
  9. Michael Jackson is number 95, and Stevie Wonder is number 18, so I think Annie Lennox would be fine on the list, except she is female, which I almost just explained why Kelly Clarkson should be on the list but realized it was male vocalists. lol. @raphaels I don't really think it is offensive, its technically skilled and Adam Lambert is absolutely ridiculous lol. By technical skill there are probably people who should be higher, I feel like Steven Tyler should up higher on the list, same with Freddie Mercury despite him already being number 4. Just by how much I see people talk about Dio I think he should be up higher. I'd also like to say I don't know about 90 of the people on this list lol.
  10. I'm going to try to fix one of my songs a little more like that, just got to add the chorus twice at the end, got a plan on what I'm going to do but it is going to make the last chorus a complete bitch lol, also considering I don't have any instrumental at all and it was "finished" today. I shall post it on here and the critique section.
  11. I don't really have a process, but if anything comes to mind I try to write it down as fast as possible. Pretty much any little idea can help you get started and also if you think of a what one line is going to sound like that can help too.
  12. Well hello there c2, I might see you on a very rare occasion, but I think I am gonna have to stick with my buddy c3 who is still pretty low for me.
  13. I don't find this to be very difficult, even though it sounds hard, but it sounds really good.
  14. I don't really know where I could put this but since many vocal coaches look at this section in the forum I thought it would be the best place. I was wondering how I could become a vocal coach, I know I would need to get lessons from someone first. How long do you think it would generally take to become one?
  15. I managed to sing Because of You by Kelly Clarkson, Vanishing and Emotions by Mariah Carey live for karaoke on pitch and with enough power the whole way through. I sang the e5 in because of you not completely right, it sounded good and had vibrato but wasn't free feeling like I wanted. In Emotions I dropped down the whistle notes to the equivalent note in the 5th octave and belted it, but at the end where she just goes crazy with the whistle notes I did manage to squeak one out lol.
  16. I have never thought about doing that, it does help thanks. How would I be able to tell if I'm doing the oedemic(?) whistle voice instead of a regular one. And do you have any tips on how to help support it more, I feel like I use too much air any time I do it also.
  17. It is a difficult song, the vowels and consonants are a biotch to me lol
  18. Yeah that is what I was thinking, I liked the third one a good bit lol.
  19. They sound like you have some twang going, I don't really know what you are doing wrong... It sounds a little strained in some parts, but that is all I can point out. Maybe you could try pushing down with your diaphragm.
  20. Yeah I do like Martina McBride, she has had some really good songs, and she is a really good singer too. I like more female singers than male ones lol. kalapoka: Yes I am a huge Kelly fan also, her Pink and Christina are like my top 3 lol. Kelly can out sing the others a good bit, but I just like the others' voices.
  21. This is a late reply, but he took voice lessons from Seth Riggs, the guy with Speech Level Singing, and I believe he generally follows their technique.
  22. Yeah she is a good singer, but she certainly isn't another Kelly Clarkson.
  23. I left out that I was supporting, I always support, or at least try to.
  24. I don't have that book. If you think you can explain it a little bit that would be helpful, I read a little bit about it online but couldn't find out what it was exactly. The belted note felt like it was in my head pretty much, not really much feeling at all. I wouldn't say I can whistle when my voice is strained, because I can't. It is more of when my voice is cooling down I guess and sort of relaxed. I can also do it in the morning. And welcome to the forum. :)
  25. I don't think of Carrie Underwood as a super amazing singer but the f5(I think) after the second verse is just awesome.
