  1. I really like Velvet Revolver. I was disappointed when that did not work out. I also found it very interesting some of the comments that were made by Scott Weiland surrounding his departure.
  2. I have the same problem but Geno is right the better your monitor the easier it is. I still find with all the energy I still sing harder live. When the monitors are right though you can tell when to pull it back a little to save your voice. My problem is I still get nervous and throat tension kills my top end and I'm all chest all night unless it's a scream. This has been a very tough obstacle for me to overcome.
  3. I agree totally. We call ourselves a tribute band rather than cover band because we are trying to do more than entertain drunks at a bar (although we spend a fair amount of time doing that and enjoying it) We want to play the music as close to the original and try be detailed. I can't always match tone or timbre but the idea is to do the songs the best justice. That means I need to be as good high as I am low and consistent. We never change keys only tune down a half step for consistency since a lot of the songs are in D tuning or standard or half step down we try to just split the difference. My goal is to be able to sing our set as well as the original artists and that just ain't gonna happen without education and work.
  4. it was inspired by outlaw biker legend. It became my standard internet handle. I work my ass off but I've got no where near enough money to be anywhere near the upper one percent. I can appreciate taking the chance at success but no way would I sell my integrity for 15 minutes of fame.
  5. A true "rocker" would wipe his butt the yellow ticket and walk away. They ARE lounge singers. They don't appear to care enough about singing/music only image. It's their fast track to fortune and fame and I just don't think I would be able to do it. The horrible songs they make them sing and the group torture. Just once I'd like someone to just have testicular fortitude to say this is bs screw you guys I'm going home. The jazzy guy that played the drums earlier this season was my favorite because he refused to be pushed around.
  6. Yes I agree whole heartedly there
  7. I fudged up the lyrics pretty good on this one. It was a new one and I had to cheat. Hope the quality isn't too crappy to hear the vocals. Any input is welcome
  8. I just want to be able to do that G5 scream. That to me doesn't sound girly it sounds brutal with proper support. BTW I misspoke above about D5, that is my consistent top note.
  9. I find that I can't hit real high notes with a smooth voice. It has a screechy fryish thing going on. It used to be uncomfortable and unsustainable to do it at volume but as I've worked it slowly and gently I'm finding it easier to do it longer. I'ts right on the edge of being uncomfortable. Like if I'm not careful I will slip into a place where I shouldn't be. I guess I'm living on the edge. When I say real high bear in mind I'm speaking relatively here. My top full voice note is an inconsistent D5. but that is way better than when I started training my voice to do my bidding.
  10. I am forced to watch this drivel if I am to be in the same room with my wife. I actually do like Elise this year and the girls mostly are very good. I am not a fan of Joshua or Philip though. Joshua does too much showboating for someone I think is good not great. Philip does some things I like but he isn't technically great and I see the Dave Mathews influence way too much. I think the problem I have with the show is how full of crap the judges can be. I do feel that Philip and Elise are there to sing and not be a whore though like many others. Some of those people would do ANYTHING the producers tell them.
  11. Those were great. The one from 93 I have never seen, but that is my favorite Axl "voice".
  12. I saw some some footage of the MTV "US Festival" from 1983 and Rik's voice was amazing live. I was truly impressed by how clean and effortlessly he sang "Lay It On The Line" and "Magic Power".
  13. I don't disagree with that. I just felt like I understood his reasons. He clearly has social anxiety issues as do I so it made total sense to me. That kind of anxiety makes things like that very difficult I'm sure. I can't imagine the pressure at that level. I would not do well with it either. I think that's why I liked GNR so much growing up. The anger in his voice and the intensity of his presence just resonated so well with the anger of a social misfit teen. He clearly lived it too.
  14. I don't think it was a bad career move. The people that still love him love him for everything he is. If Jack White declined or someone who the hipster indie crowd loves did that it would be total anti-establishment rock n' roll gospel. Axl does it and he is somehow wrong? I feel he did for two reasons 1. he was not comfortable with the hoopla surrounding the Hall of Fame induction and 2. he knew no matter what he did he would be criticized. I read his open letter and believe it was sincere. I also saw an interview with Matt Sorum saying he urged Duff and/or Slash to just call him and no one did. So his feeling unwelcome certainly seems warranted. One more thing and I'll jump off my soapbox. When I was very young I saw The Kinks getting inducted and Ray Davies said something like "so rock n' roll went and got respectable, what a drag". He was right. The prestige of the HOF is almost antithetical to everything rock is about. So good for Axl a truer rocker would be hard find.
  15. I couldn't agree more. I can't tell you any other modern era rock albums I can listen to front to back. Cosmic Egg is fantastic.
