  1. A person can have knowledge and experience without being a good teacher. If he's limiting you , he's not good.
  2. I did an Adele song, and I don't know what genre she's in, so maybe an Adele challenge would be a good idea, lol? To commemorate her return to the scene? What do you think?
  3. I'll give it a listen, thanks Ron. I learned how to access chest voice and not sound all in the mask, just a few weeks ago. The best thing to happen to me vocally in years. I'm excited.
  4. I see there's someone else here named Nadine since the last time I was here. Anyway, here's me at my vocal lessons this monday. I hear a steady improvement. I need to keep an open throat more consistently. Warm ups are good, but I need to do it more when I sing real songs.
  5. Just making sure I had a lot of air in my lungs and my midsection was expanded enough. I guess I was overdoing it. I just thought the bigger the note, the more diaphragm usage you needed, which meant to ME more AIR in me to blow. But I get it about the compression thing now, and I've been practicing since Wednesday to use less.
  6. It wasn't until I went to have my shower that I figured out what you were talking about, lol. You mean the first video I posted in October? On page one? My initial post? Cause what else do you mean "physically sad"? that caught me off guard as strange when you can't see me in the videos I posted yesterday. As for looking sad there, my answer is the same actually. I felt good. Either you are not familiar with my type of face(some ppl have said in the past my eyes look angry, lol), or you're forgetting the fact that I mentioned I was coming off of a bad place anyway. I had a breakdown over the summer. So, its a miracle and to be commended that I had the courage to do what you see there. And to the extent and the energy I managed to have at the time. That said, I felt good and not sad at all, so I'm still confused as to why you'd think I came off as sad. But, you're allowed your opinion. I just have no idea what I could have done differently to not come off as sad to you, that's all. If you haven't seen my Katy Perry/Miley Cyrus videos, please give them a listen and give me your feedback. That's what we're actually discussing right now, and I'd appreciate your opinion. Thanks.
  7. lol, I don't think I've "mastered" anything yet, which is why I'm here asking for critiques, lol. Thanks anyway.
  8. to the contrary...I was very happy last week when I recorded this. The best I've felt in months. I chose some emotional songs, so I carried the emotion in my voice for interpretive purposes. Is that a mistake? I made sure the emotion was obvious, because I keep hearing how important it is to engage the audience in the emotion of the song. You can't just have a "pretty" voice, right?
  9. I was referring to the lack of "energy". They sound like they're saying that I don't "go for it" with my notes. I think they mean that I almost sound hesitant, so I explained that. If you didn't notice that happening, then I guess that's not the problem. I have to figure out what lack of energy refers to.
  10. is it the long pauses I would take between the verse and chorus that's causing the low energy? Cause I was trying to make sure I came at it with force, so I would "prepare myself" and make sure the support was at its best. I'll work on that then.
  11. I wanted to an icon pop star. Or not far from it. I'll see what I can do. I've already made great strides since I first wrote the original post.
  12. there could be a chance my tongue or something goes up on some of my notes there. I'll pay closer attention. Keep ya posted.
  13. I've been doing what you describe. All of it. I already knew how to support as well, I just need to practice it more often. I'll try my best. Thanks all.
  14. I got some of my answer here from CunoDante (from the thread "Too airy vs. too pressed, subglottal pressure, and vocal health") When people normally sing with excessive air, they are also usually lacking support too, which causes them to push excessive air through the cords. There is a way to sing breathy and still supported -- it is a much more controlled usage of air, but most people, especially beginners, don't find this. A lot of male kpop singers use this supported approach when they sing airy. so the reason I sounded "airy" must be also due a lack of consistant support. Everything seems to go back to that for me. I think I will just remain singularly focused on that and see where it gets me. That said, I will appreciate any other suggestions I get from you guys if you have any. Thanks!
