I liked that, Felipe. I recorded that one the day after he passed. Might do a bit of a remaster at some point for more fidelity.

I liked Ronws singing Space Oddity too. Actually I've liked everything everyone has done so far. This thread has some of the highest batting average of our challenges.

Loved it, Killer. Can always hear the passion with you, and you always implement a subtle accompaniment. Exactly the way I would do it, if I could play

R.I.P David Bowie, once for actually passing and another for me slaughtering his music.  Nevertheless, here is my nearly late cover of "Starman" In tribute to the Starman himself who most certainly is back home planning his next visit to Earth right now. :)

Always so hard on yourself, lol. Another one I haven't heard. It wouldn't be a challenge if you chose an easy song to sing. Feel free to polish it in here.

Thanks MDew. That accent's 40 years of listening to country, that's all. Wait till you hear my Jamaican accent! :)

Not sure whether you are already doing this, but Robert's given good advice about showing your upper teeth to brighten up the sound. Might be something to incorporate if you aren't already.

Keep em coming.....some Prince would be interesting!

I guess that is why I could not pin down the accent. There is a little Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Kentucky,Tennessee, Carolina..........in there.   Nice sound though.............

If you like older Country and Western, check out Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys a weird mixture of Western Swing and Big Band. Once you get past Bobs "Hoots and Hollers" that has no business being there, it is not too bad.

No man, not boring at all! You've got a mellow voice - I'm pretty sure it matches your personality - so don't try to run away from it.

One of the challenges when singing a mellow song, at least for me, is to get enough 'bite' to the sound without making it sound aggressive. Coincidentally, I've been working on Tequila Sunrise recently, trying to get that balance right.  What do you think?

RIP Glenn Frey, 1948 -2016

Sounds like a decent approach. Some well-placed emphasis goes a long way. And if that's not a natural accent, you definitely had me fooled.

Here is one for Glenn. I decided to just go ahead and post it as is. The more I messed with it the worse it got.

Comments welcome anyway.............:)

All good to me, MDEW. You've got a distinct voice, and I do agree that it's pleasant to listen to. And if you really could use an opinion on what to do next, I'd actually like to see what you would do with When Doves Cry. :D

Take number 2. Starting to figure out where I want the embellishments now. Timing was a little quick in one spot. It's coming along. Gotta figure out how I'm going to do the part where I cut things off at.

Its coming together G! That's a super hard song man. I don't think I could ever sing it.

Thanks. Yeah, it's not easy, but you know how that saying about practice goes. I've actually really started to get serious with guitar stuff since I left that comment on page 1 about envying you guys who could play.

One of my replies got eaten by the system. Oh well, I will consolidate here.

I thought Felipe's cover was perfect. And he hit every point.

and I enjoyed Killer's cover. Different but very Bowie-like and of the singer/artist type people here, I think of Killer as the most like Bowie in temperment and artistic style. And that is one of the biggest compliments I can think of to make.

And Jeremy, you also have the spirit of Bowie. You have that free spirit in your voice, no matter what you do. It is always fun with you.

We are all heroes just for one day. Makes me want to put on my red shoes and dance the blues. First, I need to get some red shoes...

And there are other important artists who have passed this year and years before. But I do not mind the predominance of Bowie songs. I could be prejudiced. One of my favorite Christmas songs is his duet with Bing Crosby that I recycle every Christmas season.

And I always knew, from the first time I heard him sing, that GSoul could do Prince convincingly. You have that funk in your soul.

And MDEW doing justice to Glen Frey. Don would get the lion's share of publicity at times, but Glen had a huge effect on the Eagles, as well as one of my favorites from his solo work, "Smuggler's Blues." Favorite line - "The politics of contraband ...." (it's a CIA thing)

Thanks a lot man. :) I enjoyed all the covers as well.  Was nice of you to give a rundown of all of what you heard from us.

Ron's got some insight, for sure. He mentioned Prince to me, completely out of the blue, a few months ago.

A work in progress, but figured I'd record a couple verses before I move onto something else and forget the chords.

RIP Natalie Cole. :(

Wow, what a change of pace! Is this one easy to play?

There! Used some distortion towards the end. A little different for me, but gave it a shot. That's the point of the challenge, right? Guitars to the sky for The Purple One! :D

Good job GSoul - I think the 4 Pillars training is working for you. You sound stronger in this version!

You might want to consider a name change to Mr. Wonderful :D

That's what the chicks call me, but I'm too humble to refer to myself that way!

Now the moderators on tmv have picked up on that too! :D

I think I will look at a Bowie song next. Also doing the I Can't Make You Love Me Challenge. Nationals Challenge also! Smooth sailing.:D
