Finally!

I haven't been active for a while, but I'm happy to be back with this song. The challenge last year
(when the song was not chosen), inspired me to do a recording back then.

Since I wanted to practice my passagio, I chose the Version by George Michael. I found it quite challenging.
Tell me what you think.

OK, this is it.......... You will have to put up with the out of tune guitar until someone buys me an expensive one. Capo on the 5th fret doesn't help things. Cowboy chords, Folk Style.

Ya! Super cool... silky jazzy... love the bright, light windy voice choice... Cool modulation / cadence in the hook... Very cool improv at the end. 

My only suggestion would be that on "give up this fight"... you need to fight more. It felt a touch wuss'd out... you need to go into Sob mode there to weep or you need fight for your heart in that moment... don't miss an interpretation like that. "Fight" is a powerful lyric, it needs to be addressed.

Very pretty... I loved it.

MDEW, super cool... loved it. I think a gritty cowboy song vibe for this song works really well... it makes for a good cowboy song.

.......  it helps me to stay OUT of the mood of the song. I don't want to be "shoved" or "crowded" into the artistic "work space" before or after I perform the art. The vocal mic / booth / reflection filter is a very tight, confined space. I have a limited threshold for putting my nose and face up into the microphone staring cross-eyed at the microphone. It isn't necessarily an "open" feeling of freedom... I move to my work space, when I begin to do my job.

Also, on a more pragmatic point,... just standing there starring at the microphone for a minute prior to the song or after the song, in my view is a wee bit dorky. When I start, I start. When I'm done, I'm done... I want to stay out of that space as much as I can and get a refresher... 

Similar to putting a book down and letting your eyes and brain rest for a while before you pick it up again.

   Thanks Ed-Win, I liked your version also. When it comes to singing to a Karaoke or backing track I get lost pretty easy. I guess I roll to a different drummer.  I cannot read music but I would play songs by using guitar books that had the chords above the melody in the positions they would be in the song and sing what sounded right to me. I would be pretty surprised by the difference sometimes when hearing the actual song for the first time.

Frankly, I don't know how I'd describe it - I wanted it to be as delicate as possible, but I am a bit surprised to hear it described as folky. Just for my own insight, can you explain why it sounds folky?

 

To me, the verbal delivery says country, but something about the tempo and the subtle guitar playing paired with those short pockets of silence, says folk.

I still don't know where I'm going to use the falsetto, but I think it's necessary here. To convey the sensitivity. And I need to think about doing other things, and how I'm going to do those things.

I enjoyed it, G, and I totally got an Aaron Neville vibe off this, too. I think that was the right feel for it.You don't sound like Aaron but you had his style of expression in this.

It was just a little spur of the moment thing. I've been working on toning down the vibrato and focusing on clear voiced singing lately. Trying to make things sound good that way. I have one or two guys I kind of try to take my clear voiced approach from. I wonder if you'd still say I sound like Aaron Neville more than who I'm talking about if you heard them, lol. Going to finish that Do Me Baby by Prince within the next few days and do more with this. Things had been paused for a second because the mic on my headphones, which I use to sing with, stopped functioning. Now I've got a new pair, so I can put a period behind that one. I'll also be looking at what else I can do as far as something else for the Late Legends Challenge goes. Might take aim at Bowie.

I think you could do great with a Bowie song.

True story. At work, we have builder's client who has that last name (no relation.) On the work order I put the first line, full electrical install. Second line, put on your red shoes and dance the blues. Just to see if anyone catches it.
