The other thing you might need is a doctor. Perhaps there is something neurological or physical in your hearing and ability to make sounds that is disconnected. You might actually need a hearing test. That is not an insult or critique. Just a suggestion.

You don't have to, but its a good start. The song may sound silly but it has done wonders for many people (at least in my family). If you haven't noticed already, it goes through each note in an octave. Just like Julie Andrews sings in the song "when you know the note to sing you can sing most anything". You could also sing it with numbers such as 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 1 being the bottom note and 8 being the top.

Oh, and its a good movie... watch it if you haven't seen it.

We keep using this magical word again pitch!

Singing lessons sound very expencive

Robert Lunte, dose a downloadable training course, would that do the job?

Basically, pitch is if you're singing the correct note or not.

They range, but I've been told basic singing lessons can usually be purchased for $30 for 30 minutes. Ideally, you'd have them scheduled every week. I'd say it's the best possible thing to do if you're serious about singing.

What are your goals with singing? What do you plan to achieve?

Robert Lunte's course is also a great option. I'd say it's the best option if we're talking about a singing training course. I'd say in-person singing lessons are better than anything else, but the thing there is you have to find a good, affordable teacher. Not only somebody who could fix your pitch problem, which shouldn't be that difficult, but somebody who can cultivate your voice into something balanced and robust. Also, it would be a great plus if they were familiar with the style of singing you're interested in learning.

I'd suggest at least some lessons until your pitch improves.

After that, it would actually be a pretty good plan to get Rob Lunte's 4 Pillars of Singing. You get the book and access to the training library, but you also then get to go into the TVS log forum, where you can document your progress and get assistance. Pretty hard to beat that Rob himself goes in there and responds to questions, in addition to everyone else who learns from the program.

Maybe he doesn't need all that. My pitch was about the same when I started.

OK Jarom

I going to give that Marry Poppings thing A try and will post back

Thanks

Well if the pitch is just pressing the wrong key on the piano then there is need for some lessons

But on the other hand, if my vocal cords dont stretch to that key then there is little point trying

Should I look at "how to test your vocal range" on google thingy and post back resalts?

Singing lessons  $30 for 30 minutes well I guess we are only half way there to solicitors and accountants fees

How much training do you think I need?

Well I think thats about 3 people now that have told me "you sounded just like me when I started"

So maybe I should not ditch this song after all

I wouldn't look at it like that. I think you're capable of singing on-pitch.

You just could really use somebody to tell you every time you're off-pitch and on-pitch, just like my teacher did, while they're right in front of you. Then you'll start to recognize things and you'll be able to feel it.

I can't tell you exactly how much, but I think your pitch would be at the point I'm talking about in less than 2 years, with serious practice. Might seem long to a beginner, but people train for decades. I think @ronws up there has been singing at least 20 years. Think about it. When in your life are you ever going to stop singing?

I don't think you should do a vocal range test right now because you're not able to sing what you're hearing correctly just yet. It would be somewhat inaccurate.

If you mean you should not give up on that song, then I agree that you should keep working. If you mean you shouldn't throw away that cover of the song, I agree that I wouldn't throw it away either. Keep it so you can monitor progress. I believe I still have recordings from when I first started, around 5-6 years ago.

Can no one tell by listening to the tracks I have uploaded where I am out of key

Are these lessons going to cost me 1000's of dollars

If you're pitch keeps going off, you keep going out of key. Like ronws said, its going on throughout. It wouldn't he helpful to you to pinpoint every single spot where you go out.

A teacher could really help you tune those ears, and then once you recognize how good pitch should sound, you'll be able to feel it without anyone telling you.

It depends. Its all up to you. You go as long as you want to.

I asked before, but I think you missed the question. What are your goals with singing? Are you trying to develop some sort of career? Do you just want a decent voice? Do you want more than that?

Actually, I am done with this thread. Jarom suggested the song from "Sound of Music" and 2 cats called it rubbish. So, if the help being offered here is considered rubbish, I can better spend my time elsewhere.

Well I though of it as I though I could sing but lets put it to the pross (so hear are my uploads)

Yes I know there is good money in it to stand up as a pro on a live gig for the night and cover over peoples work and thus your chances of pulling are higher then anyone ells

But if it is going to cost $1000s then I will need to reconsider

Well yes the song is rubbish and Jarom agreed, but he said it was a good little training exercises

I don't know you might get a hard on from it listening to it via vinal record on  a saturday  nigh in front of the fire in a rocking chair with a sweet sherry

But to me i did not get much of that at all

I managed to download and convert it to .mp3 and then play in truck today and I will start a new thread soon as to where I am going

What is vinal? I have not seen that word before, and I have seen a lot of words. I know what nigh means. It is old english for near or close.

Jarom was trying to be polite, to his credit.
