Dust in the Wind

Usually, as with all the other songs I do, I am used to playing and singing this at the same time. However, I record the guitar and vocals as separate tracks, which makes it easier to amp one thing or the other. Again, here and there, I max out the mic but such is my lot in life, for right now. When I was in high school and played this song a lot (I graduated in 1982) I had a friend who played violin and he knew the solo for this song and it was one my best memories of school, playing in duet with him. I ran into another violinist last fall. She didn't know the solo so well but she faked it pretty well. And I've also thought of recording this "live," i.e., guitar and vocal in one track, though volume may suffer.

"Dust in the Wind" by Kansas, covered by me.

Hi again! To be honest you didn't played the guitar riff very well man :( . I'm a fan of Kansas and I like Dust in the Wind so much, one of my favorite songs. I think this song needs softly interpretation, I think you Did it like Steinhard would do. I think a good way to get the feeling of the music it's relax and remind the music before start the song like classical musicians Do, It works when you have to play complex pieces and you can't make almost any mistake. I think concentration is the mastership for any musician, listen to this man:

He was the greatest guitarrist of the world because He rarely makes mistakes, He have a impressive ability and He Do the best interpretations I've seen, bringing the feeling wich the Author wanted to show.

Well I wrote a lot!!See you :D

You are right, the guitar part is messed up, one of my fingernails needed clipping and it kept hanging on me. On the other hand, if I wanted the exact original sound, I would have tried to find backing tracks.

And I may end up doing this song over again, if the guitar part is that distracting. I was more interested in the melody and lyric. It's been some time since I played this song in regular rotation.

ronws - Your voice is nice and smooth up there on the A4s and B4s. You seem to be able to transition very freely between your passagio and head voice. Nice job! I've also been working on this song and I agree with VIDEOHERE - walsh's stuff is not easy.

Thanks, guys. Everything is a work in progress. Sorry about the guitar part not being absolutely perfect. And I've been too tired from work to re-record it but I will, when I get the chance. And then, we can truly judge my voice, against a better played guitar track.

That is one of the greatest songs ever recorded. You did a fine job! I sure couldn't sing that song so I got nothing to say but good job.

Thanks a bunch, Keith. I guess it depends on what day it is as to whether I get a good review. Someone just go through telling me I have pitch and tone problems. I'm singing into a mic that overloads on anything over a conversational volume (standard desk mic for a computer.) So, I appreciate it.

I still plan to re-record it one of these days, at least for the guitar part, which did get fouled up. I have played it better but now, it seems, one bad mistake and I don't have a clue.

I have re-recorded it with a clean-up guitar, though there was a data glitch that produces an odd tone repeat. Probably because it's Audacity. It's saving right now as a wmv and then I can upload it to youtube. I will start a new thread for it. And apologize in advance for my tone and pitch problems.
