On Tuesday, May 6, 2009, the vocal world lost a truly great pedagogue in Richard Miller. We've probably all read his "Structure of Singing." but the book that most influenced me was the study he did on the various European Schools of Singing. I found it a great help when I first began teaching classical technique. After years of reading his works and hearing about him, I had the pleasure and privilege to attend one of his workshops at Belmont University. I even was able to be one of the "guinea pigs" and have a video to prove it. Richard Miller may be gone physically from this earth, but he will live forever in the hearts, minds and voices of his students and readers. I spent all of maybe 10 minutes in a one on one with him, but they will always be 10 of the top minutes of my life.
