I agree that the AC DC ones were good, I mean that it's a different type of beast. A lil more held back with distortion all the time works on AC DC, on GnR it just doesn't... And its the all out GnR high sound that he just can't pull anymore apparently.

really? hmmm. Everything I heard (video) of his acdc performances I thought were pretty good. Maybe I just missed the footage you've seen. I don't follow G's&R's so....   anyway, the weak falsettoish singing is just lame.

Part of the issue is that Guns n Roses vocals are much more aggressive than AC/DC and they extend over wider range, more sustain, etc. I just never heard Axl usingg his trademark raw scream after the 90s... he tries but something is always off, gets super thin and falls apart...

Maybe Axle just had an off night. I saw him live with acdc and he nailed every song.

Pretty simple. Compressed Overlay Distortion. Squeeze like hell in the head voice until you create so much noise in the upper vocal tract that you have distortion. Effective, but hella fatiguing and if you are not doing other things properly in your technique, it can destroy your voice.  This performance is awful. It is the head voice he used to use, without the compressed overlay, resulting in essentially, falsetto. Why he can't squeeze the hell out of it like he used to back in the day at least for one night, IDK.  Training for this technique is found HERE:

He's been called the "greatest rock and roll singer of all time!"  Some people agree, some don't. What's' new right?  Personally he's not in my fav singer list. What I will say about Axl is, he has seemingly done very well maintaining his vocal health for the extreme style singing he does. His stint with AC/DC was impressive for sure!  This is why I found this video interesting. Axl is not singing in full voice on all the high notes in this performance. He's using a semi-falsetto tone. Singers might do this for 2  reasons (I can think of), 1- They lost that region of their voice from screaming, coughing, nodules, or alcohol. OR 2- They may be on the edge of losing their voice from fatigue from excessive performances and/or singing improperly so, now he's trying to preserve his voice by being selective about what parts of the song he's willing to sing full voice (what he appears to be doing in this song). If he allows himself to heal (does some healing therapy vocalize), he should be able to sing full voice in the higher notes again. I guess I'm more of a purist on this, I'd say, "cancel the concert rather than sing like that, it sounds like shit!" I have found that any time I'm singing in the "high performance" realm of the vocal spectrum, I can be singing properly in every other way yet, if I don't engage solid appoggio (strong diaphragmatic support), my voice will still fatigue relatively rapidly! It is (in my experience) the number one defense (out of many) against vocal fatigue and damage!    

My 16 year old daughter is an aspiring opera/musical theater singer.  She wants to get a septum piercing.  Does anyone have direct experience with this and will it affect her voice?  Her voice teacher does not have any experience with it.  Thanks in advance!
