Why are singers like Ed Sheeran, Jennifer Hudson, Mick Jagger able to sing without any warm up?

All of these 3 singers talked about not doing any vocal warm ups before singing. I'm sure there are many more singers, especially the ones without any formal training, who usually don't warm up. Now i'm wondering if it's really necessary to do warm ups. I hate warm ups more than i hate death, however i also have a strong fear of vocal damage. Can someone please explain to me why Jennifer Hudson is able to sing the way she does without having any warm up? I mean i never did any warm up for years too, until i leaned about the importance of it a few years ago. Are these singers risking their voices?

Also read that Robert Plant doesn't do any warm ups, but i can't find a source right now.

seriously dude

stop reading stuff online and going into confusion

who gives af what any of those people do or dont do? or what they SAY they do or dont do

if you are worried about "vocal damage, omg" go see an ENT. Stop obsessing about it

btw Robert Plant ruined his voice pretty quickly and had surgery in '74ish. I wouldnt be using him as any type of model for how to have a healthy voice

most ppl who say they dont need to warm up are lying. chances are, they probably did some quick runs and scales prior to that interview. a lot of vocalists, who are srs about their voice, often take extra measures to keep their voice in tip top shape. my brother has a friend who has met john legend and one interesting fact i've learned is that mr legend rarely talks before a performance. idk if that is true, but it def doesnt sound like a kooky idea when u consider that vocalists perform for 1-2 hrs straight.

or, they sing lightly before the show and goof off to get loose but they dont do a FORMAL warmup...thus the quote becomes "so and so doesnt warm up!"

In any case, the "no warm uppers" might be 3% and then contrast that with those who might do a 1 hour warmup for a 1hr show, maybe they are the 3% on the other side. Then the rest are somewhere in between. They got that new thing they just came out with called the bell curve lol

for me its not even a question, if I want to have some freedom in the upper ranges etc, im going to have to warm up. I dont think of it so much in an "omg im going to lose my voice if I dont warm up" type of mindset. I dont think most of us will scream with a non warmed up voice. Instincts usually prevent us from doing serious harm to ourselves lol.

agreed. general sense im getting from op is that he/she is insecure of the fact that he/she has to warm up when other singers don't (this is presumptuous, so forgive me if im wrong). im just saying, why change up ur routine when its already working for you? i think theres a misconception amongst singers--the really good ones can sing with little warm up because, chances are, they've been doing it for years. honing their craft and learning safe techniques along the way.for many, at that pt, its safe enough for them to belt out a c5s full voice with as little as 10 minutes of w-u's because they've sang so much that they've committed them to muscle-memory (which can be a bad thing if bad techniques are used and a good thing if good techniques are used).

op doesnt need to worry about how long it takes for them to warm up. warm up until u feel good enough to sing. likely, u'll eventually reach a pt where you'll need very little warm up.

This is TV! do you actually believe every word of it, have you not considered that this is a deliberate attempt to delude you in thinking how great and god gifted these chosen celebrities (and for there money marketing) are?

Are you not the same user on hear who said you had damaged your vocal chords in the same way Adel on the TV did?

Wow what BS! how can people watch this crap! WTF they just call hear in unplanned at any time of day and she rolls in 10mins later after getting out of bed and hear comes tallent out of her ass at the age of nothing, Great scot! and then she offer to the audience do you want me to sing right now and the audience go shab-a-bab-a-whoo-rag and the presenter starts yaking on about something ells.

And this is why they say talk is so cheap folks coz she dose not sing on stage and dose not demonstrate the ability to sing without a warm up.

This is so anoying but the sad bit is people actully belive ever word on these TV shows Now come on!
