Approaching A High Note

Hi, I want to know whats the best way to approach vocally a high not at end of phrase? I mean, I have experimented with holding my breathe and slwoing releasing it and it seems a lot easier and I can control the note better, and also by taking a deep breathe and just hitting the note, but in this case I feel it kind of hits the high note in more of an attack fashion and with less control on my behalf. I have attached a short 7 second audio sample here to help explain more precisely what I am talking about? Look forward to hearing your feedback and thank you in advance. OzMan

It would depend on the phrase and the note. In your example I would not stop and take another breath but keep the cords and the throat open. "For you" would be with the same breath.  Use the word FOR to set up the next note. The R sound would be suppressed. If you sing something like "Fa - You" it will still sound to the audience that you sang "For You". The Ah sound will open your throat and get the air moving for the last word.

Not everybody likes to download files. If you want to reach more people, it may be better to use a streaming service. There are some, like vocaroo, that you can use without signing up.

I would like to hear your example.

Thanks Ozman. I listened to it a few times, and it seems fine to me. I couldn't hear any problems with your approach to the D4.
