Granted I am not a guitar player, these songs are mainly for me to critique my voice against a known quantity.

Looking for feedback about the freeness openness of the sound I am getting, especially in the upper registers.

Thanks.

Blessings and Balance all.

Very nicely done. It had a light cry texture to it. But what I really liked was the emotional character of the sound. It fit the song perfectly. My favorite kind of stuff! Great job.

The upper part sounded fine to me, but if it feels a little less easy to you, you might try adding a little twang to it.

When you twang, several things can happen, depending on how much you twang. it can be so mild you don't even hear the tone quality change or so extreme, you sound like a duck quacking or witch cackling. The two main benefits is it gives you added volume with the same amount of effort. And it creates a resonance feedback on the cords that helps them vibrate together more easily. And I guess you could say it helps you vowel modify in the tricky area around your break.

Just saying the word "twang", you can feel the pharyngeal resonance, in particular the "NG" sound at the end helps you find it. There is an old thread recently resurrected on the subject you might find interesting located here. It is worth a read.
