I've been playing guitar for a year now, but I've always half ass a song. This is the first one I've actually try to force myself to learn the whole thing and not just my favorite parts. I haven't perfect it. I still have to think about the changes and the rhythm which kind of mess with the lyrics. I wanted to wait until I really get the song on lock before showing anyone. But I was too excited because its the first time in hundredth of tries where I didn't mess the lyrics up. It is very difficult to play and sing so keep doing it and it will get easier. Don't be afraid to play and sing many styles of music, they all have something you can learn from them.
