  1. Hey guys... here is one of my internet students from Italy. He also trained with my Master CI, Alessandro del Vecchio. Thought you might enjoy.
  2. ... ya, ya... I know guys... there are a few notes that seem to be a big #... ... but in my defense, this was for a live TV performance. One take, one shot at it, no "do-overs"...
  3. Well now, A whole hearted thank you Ron. Im glad it inspired you. "Gethsemane" has become a staple at The Vocalist Studio, many of my vocal athletes choose to dive in and learn this piece. I would be hard pressed to find too many other songs that match "Gethsamane" for training a student how to interpret text, carry an emotional journey and chop through demanding technical phonations. Anyone who learns "Gethsemane", I mean, really can make it their own, with their own ideas... will grow as a singer. I will soon be organizing a "Training Vocal Athletes" Boot Camp for singers to train with me and two associate TVS instructors for 1-2 weeks in Seattle. Each Student will be required to have "Gethsemane" worked out and somewhat prepared for the boot camp. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcQJw92TkIA ... I think I will do it again with a better production, better audio sometime in July or August.
  4. Nice voice! Ya, your good. Do you have a voice coach? You will want to pay more attention to pitch & dynamics and general musicianship, .... learn to sing stronger in the lower, verses to match your nice high belts more. are you sitting down? if you are, stand up.. you need to train and perform standing up. welcome to The Modern Vocalist
  5. Hi Marilen: Nice, smokey. You have a nice intrument, with some training, it could be a joy to hear in any jazzy lounge on a friday night. I would watch the pitch at the beginning of the song... with a jazzy song like this, you have to dial into the pitch more carefully then a pop or rock song generally speaking because the voicings have 5ths, 7ths, 9ths, etc.. in them. You have a voice that could be great. Do you have any training materials, books, dvds, a teacher?
  6. Uh ya! I pretty much grew up on Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. Rob Halford and Bruce Dickenson are major inspirations to me, where it not for those guys... add to that, Geoff Tate, Ray Alder (fates warning) & Steve Perry... I would not be doing what I do today. In fact, what I consider my expertise,,, helping singers to bridge the vocal break and build head tones that are really amazing... Im over simplifying here... my voice pedagogy would not be what it is today. It is the pursuit of learning how to get amazing range and head tones that has lead me to where I am today... but the spark was lit by Rob Halford as a teenager... Anyways... YOUR VOICE IS GREAT... I would love to train with you,,, Keep it up!
  7. Hi Joseph... a very pretty song. I like this! A lovely voice as well... what questions do you have about this performance if any?
  8. Interesting lyric and context... you do have a pleasant/pretty voice... nice work.
  9. Hi... The mic sounds a bit brittle and funky... but wont hold that against you... try to get a warmer sound in the vocal tracks. The higher notes are a bit constricted/belted... you are right at the edge of your physical ability to sing this song in your chest voice... to really get the Steve Perry sound... you will want to be able to sing the higher notes in a mixed or headier placement... it will open up your voice.. help the sound from sounding less "chokey" and certainly make singing this song easier for you... Having said that, this is a VERY difficult song to sing... really hard stuff here my friend... and you should be recognized for getting after it. Overall, it sounds ok-good... would be great if you could get better placement. "... Im still yours..." at the end... the "Yours" was an example of some good placement... try putting more of your high notes in that "place"... its head voice vs a chokey high chesty belt. Hope this helps... Great to have you here at TMV.
  10. Ya, kinda short.. can we get more test sample?... however, it sounded like a twangy head tone... that is essentially the idea... the issue at stake here is not whether or not you can produce a heady scream... lots of people can do that, its not difficult. What is hard is learning to control your head tones, to be able to sing them on pitch, in the context of lyrics and melody and use them in an artful compositional way. Its control and interpretation of phonations like this that you train for, not simply the ability to throw one out there, but this has promise. With a voice coach, you could learn to tame it.
  11. Im always in a learning process with home recording as well... coincidentally will be installing ProTools 8 today to my home system... Im not the one to ask on this... go to one of the several home recording discussions here on the forum and reach out to some of the other TMV Forum Athletes...
  12. Sounds pretty good... but the mix is a bit weird... you sound like your a long ways away from the microphone and a bit too much reverb... but I think its cool... nice singing.
  13. I like the vocal effects, cool. Your high notes are raving madd and me likey!! I think its really cool! Great work man, really original and cool vocals. I can tell those high screams are pretty much placed well... good vocal tract placement, Im sure it doesnt hurt does it... sounds pretty open and healthy... right? would love to be your coach. Hope this helps...
  14. You have a nice voice. Like the vibrato at the top of your belts. Good pitch. You should be singing, nice work. Training would help you to open up your belts and stop constriction at the top of your chest voice. Would enjoy being your voice coach. Hope this helps..
  15. Hi Talia, I listened to your music. I listened to "Flashes". I would love to hear this song much slower with just voice and piano as a dramatic ballad. Your voice is pleasant. I would say your production can do a lot to feature your voice if it is right. It might be a good idea to keep your great songs and experiment playing them with a band at different tempos and feels. Your voice is good. If you slow down the tempo on the first two songs, you can sing with more legato, which would sound great with your voice. Hope this helps...
  16. DJ I can hear a good voice here. When you modulate to the higher notes in the classic DT song, your voice responds well and has good tone. I can also see that you have passion for singing. The challenge is experience. I agree with my TMV forum colleagues above, you need a voice coach and you need to sing with scales to make your rhythmic cues tight. There is a lot of advanced coordination that must be had really nail this song. Its not enough to sing the notes, you have to sing the notes with the same energy, cues, attack, formant to make it work. I think you can do it and if you get serious about training your voice, it will come quickly for you... so get started! Hope this helps.
  17. You most certainly do fit in Tobi... The Modern Vocalist.com is for you my friend... You have a good voice... here are my suggestions. Blow more air... you need more energy behind your singing. Sing louder with more volume. Thats the first thing Id like to hear... if you can record this again with more energy, ill give it a listen. PS: Tell Joy , Robert said hi and Ill be in Germany in June... would like to see her again.
  18. Great to offer JonPall advise on setting up his recording stuff... you get a rep. point for that!
  19. Nice video... there are moments when its a bit flat, but I dont know if that is the production or not... I really liked the vocals around 2:30 when your singing in French in the cute blue outfit... that seemed solid and in your zone. The last clip in the green dress was pretty good to. Overall, an amazing singer and definately a professional with lots of experience. Do you have a coach these days? You should have a coach. Id love to work with you.
  20. You have a pretty voice Beka... I can hear you have had some training... have you done some theatery stuff? You know, a lot of what makes a singer and a song recording sound great is production... you need to get rid of the voIP internet mic and get a real mic for singers and make a real recording over some karaoke bed tracks... you can get some nice tracks from amazon.com and if you have a MAC you should be able to use "garageband" to create a real recording. But your voice is nice... it just sounds like your singing through a Thomas Edison "talkie"...
  21. I have the bed track for this... its a lot better.. go to Amazon.com and get your karaoke tracks there... they tend to be pretty darn good.
  22. I like your voice... very different. Unique, thin color to it that I think is cool. But you need to tap your foot and get some steady tempo goin ... it rushes the tempo ... sit back, dont rush the beat... work with a metronome a bit and it will be solid. Is this you pickin? Nice guitar pickin. Hope this helps...
  23. Well, let me just start by saying... it sounds "ok-good" in my opinion... slightly leaning toward only ok... I can tell by listening that you have a nice voice and instrument... but you need some voice training and techniques to help you learn to develop your "singing" voice. For example, I can tell by listening that your not opening your mouth enough which is reducing the quality of the overtones, adding to constriction on your belty high notes and messing up the articulation. Once you begin to open your mouth more, you will want to facilitate that added space with more air... you need more respiration/support. Do you have a voice coach? Have you ever just chopped on some vocal workouts for an hour? It would go a long way for you and you would probably sound vastly better in a short period of time. Hope this helps.
  24. Hi Snax... I think this sounds good bro. Nice work. Pretty. But Im not sure I heard you bridge to your head voice until the end of the song. Did you transpose this to a lower key?
