It is amazing to me how Bollywood manages to churn out these beautiful tunes. What genre is it?
(Sometimes, not understanding the language is a blessing. I am often disappointed if I see the translated lyrics. They are usually very average. )
Anyway, listening to you singing, I would say that you have good pitch appreciation (you may be  thinking, "of course", but it is a big deal for some beginners).
You do have some problems with execution as the pitch ascends (or occasionally as it fluctuates quickly), even though you seem to be aiming for the right notes.
It sounds to me as if this is mainly to do with breath regulation and is made more difficult with a genre of music that uses a lot of melisma and arpeggios.
I would recommend finding an appropriate diaphragmatic breathing technique. However, as I have not come across any coach or trainer of Western music who has correctly characterized the unique sound of this genre of singing,  I can't really say which diaphragmatic breathing technique will work well. Somehow the Indian singers manage to get a lot of "cry" in the upper range, while keeping the lower range mellow. Some Western trainers confuse this with breathiness.
In your singing, I think that the mellow lower end is going to come naturally. Breath control will be required to find the resonance in the upper range.
That's my two cents worth of opinion.

Alexis, this voice sounds mature to be a 17 year old. Possibly too mature.
In any case, the glissando octave sweeps are landing a bit flat.
But again, I question that this is actually a 17 year old, that doesn't sound like a 17 year old voice.
    Nice to have you.

Open your eyes dear... sing into your room. Listen to yourself in the room. Stop singing "inside" to yourself. There is a lot more I would recommend, but if you would like more input, please pay for the $20 review service, The advise I gave you is a good start.

    Hey Bayloydi,
Sorry for the delay. I have been consumed with the Vocal Athlete Intensive here in Seattle. Thanks for your patience.
Great that you are videoing your singing.. you get more information and learn more that way. Don't put your hands in your pocket, it is bad form. you need your hands to express yourself and give you physical balance. It also looks super amateur when you do that. Do you want people to think your bored when your singing, or that your into it?  Get your hands out of your pockets! I like the way you maintain the resonance on your "with you"s... you maintain the compression through that phrase and that could be a part of the song that would give a lot of people problems, but you intuitively knew to maintain that narrowed position and keep resonating. VERY GOOD! Your rhythm and feel for groove is great. Your intonation is pretty darn good as well. A few spots are a hair flat, but overall.. really good. I don't have a lot of critique feedback for this other then pointing out what I liked. I think your a great singer and this performance was very well done. VERY WELL DONE BAY!
Are you from the Philippines ( just a hunch )?  Where are you located? Do you have a voice coach? What is your story?

    Hello Reikoko,
    Nice work...
You need brighter harmonics in your formant tunings. These will be amplified more if you lift your soft palate more and sob harder into your singing. You certainly have a capable voice!  But you need training to take it to another level. Draven is correct, these phonetics are too speech like... you need practice learning how to articulate ( consonants and vowels/resonance ) for singing, not speaking. You simply can't "push" speaking phonetics into singing, especially the higher you go. It is a problem that everyone deals with.
    Train your voice.
My training program is $49. It is permanently at a discount. It is way under priced.
    Purchase HERE >>>
... and thats all there is to it. You have a lot of potential, but if you want to get better, you will have to commit to training and get more serious. If you choose not to, then this is about as good as you are going to get. The choice is up to you.
    Thanks for your help Draven...

    @ReiKoko
Beautiful song. Good choice. I think your voice would open a quite a lot with training. The issue is that you're currently singing from a speech position, which is keeping your from resonating well. Your pitch is on, but your resonance is not. Speech vowels and singing vowels are in very different locations. Speech vowels and words tend to start in the throat and the add sound colors from there and up (bottom up), where as singing is top down. It's essentially like learning a whole new accent, perhaps even a new language. Knowing how to resonant in the soft palate and out from there will definitely smooth out your voice, and bring out your true singing voice.
For instance, the part where you sing...
...Your lower notes are dampening/dropping your larynx and completely changing your sound color. It can't be helped when you're in speech mode. However, place a finger on your bottom lip and sing "up and over" that finger, trying to place your vowel resonance in the front of your soft palate, rather than in your throat. The difference should be apparent immediately.
I highly encourage you to check out The Four Pillars of Singing. It's by far the best singing course out there, and an amazing deal too.

Hello. I've never had any sort of vocal training and so I believe that I've picked up a lot of bad habits and have a lot of things to improve upon, I just need to know where to begin. I used to cover japanese songs on youtube but quit after 3 years because although I love singing as a hobby, I grew frustrated with myself because I wasn't improving and I didn't like how I sounded. I want to start over, but not unless I improve, so detailed feedback would be greatly appreciated.

That is a great idea and thank you!  I will make sure that the singing is not limited to this "training environment."  I have never done karaoke before but it has come into awareness several times over these past couple weeks. I will deffinitely take you up on that!  Have an amazing weekend!!

.... also, I just want to say. I love your set up... but I want to encourage you to also take some time to get out from your training station... so to speak, and go sing with just a mic, mirror, music and if possible an audience ( karaoke ). I want you to balance what you are doing here, with some environments that are also a bit loose as well... a place where you would sing, without concerning yourself with your technology and setup.
I want you to do both. The serious training space GREAT... and then make time to unbutton your collar and just go "do it".

    Hello and good day everyone!
This post is being created to start a video journal of the learning process. I have no prior experience singing and never considered it until just recently.
I have been going over the material these past few weeks, practicing onsets as I learn them. I can already see this is going to become a much bigger part of this life so I had to make some room for it. I cleared out a corner of one of the rooms and created a permanent setup so I can just walk in and press record anytime I would like to practice.
The first video posted will give an introduction to the setup.
From here, I will continue to post additional videos as time progresses.
It is a pleasure to join you all on this journey and I give thanks and gratitude.
    Much love!!

I was attempting to find a way to share these ongoing videos without creating too big of a mess on this thread.
To make things as easy as possible, I will be repurposing an old website and utilize the blog for making the journal entries.
In this way, all of the journal entry links can be kept here much like a catalog that can be referenced back to the site.

I'm attempting to lighten up my vocals whilst still maintaining a definitely connected sound with good color. This is not how I intend to always sing, just trying to find the lowest possible effort and lightness with good sound, then am going to go to the opposite extreme. My goal is to find my limits on both ends. Any comments on this effort will be appreciated.

Hello Hobbit, good to hear you again.
    - I like the lovely color of your voice. Sort of a sweet, husky tenor... nice.
    - You need to work on tighting up your cues. There are some places that are not on the cue, that shouldn't be missed. Carelessness. For example :51, your late.
    - 1:26 . on this bridge, I would coach you to have more compression and amplify your vocal folds more... remove the windy tone for a more assertive connected sound.
    - 1:39 - 1:57... same thing... I would remove the windy tone on this bridge... a more connected vocal folds, amplify more, sound more "confident" in the character... but I still love the color of your voice.
Is this an original? If so, congratulations... I think its really cool...  It sort of reminds me of the soundtrack from "Into The Wild"... some tasty Eddie Vedder tunes.
