  1. Thanks so much Geno! I am planning on posting just the bare vocal track soon so that everyone can hear better where I'm having trouble. Reverb does wonders to mask all the tricky bits... ;)
  2. Thank you David. I don't really have good control yet of my voice through the first passagio area but i'm trying to sing more again and strengthen the supporting muscles. I should do warm ups before singing too but always seem to just hit record and sing when i'm inspired in the moment.
  3. Hey Olem, thanks for your honesty my friend. I did use far more reverb than i would normally use for sure. If you listen to the Journey version, Steve perry's voice is also very washed out with effects. It's almost like they only used the reverb aux return channels and took out the main vocal!
  4. Thanks for the kind words but Steve Perry puts me to shame! Glad you enjoyed my rendition and thanks for taking the time to post. :)
  5. Well, i'm usually known as a Rob Halford (Judas Priest) style of singer but I do love to sing other genres as well. Here's me really trying to work on my head voice on the Luther Vandross song Dance With My Father. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loC_UfHLwBA
  6. Thanks Ron for taking the time to listen and respond. :)
  7. Hey all, it's been a LONG time since I sang or posted anything here so I wanted to share a track I recorded the other day. This is me trying to song the song Faithfully by Journey. I used a ton of reverb and compression on the vocals to try to emulate the Steve Perry sound on the actual recording. My natural vocal range breaks right where Steve Perry is comfortable so this was REALLY hard for me to do! Hope you will enjoy it and feel free to tell me where you can tell I'm struggling!
  8. Thanks for your honest feedback Anders. I agree with you 100%!
  9. Thanks Geno. Style I may have but my actual "technique" needs a lot of work! I do tend to over-sing and push too hard. I wish I could win the lottery and then spend as much time on my singing as I'd like to with top vocal coaches. It's frustrating for me sometimes because I do think I have some good potential but I know I don't and can't devote as much time to getting any better as I should.
  10. Sounding good to me! That range is tough to sing in for most males and you did very well indeed.
  11. Loved it! You have a wonderfully feminine, breathy tone. Thanks for sharing it with us here! :)
  12. MUCH better on the second version Olem! Kudos to you for even attempting that song! It's on my list of songs I'd like to try one day. You ROCKED it!!!!
  13. Hi Ricard. Thanks for listening and for your feedback. I've had a few comments on my vibrato and I agree that it needs to become more natural sounding. I've always had a wide vibrato but when I haven't sang in a while it does lose it's speed a little too much. I like knowing I can always get better! :)
  14. Hi Jonpall, I'm not sure what my voice would be classified as to tell you the truth. I wasn't too close to the mic. I do have a large chest and powerful frame which might be what gives me the full sound? I'm actually built like Tom Jones was in his youth funnily enough and also have a rather large head as he does. I know that a large noggin can definitely give a singer a more full sounding upper register. As for my vibrato, it just comes out that way. If I sang more or did a proper warmup beforehand I think it would speed up and become more natural sounding. Thanks for the comments and suggestions all. I hope to do better next time around! :)
  15. Hi Olem! Thanks for checking out the song and thanks also for your feedback. :)
  16. I did this one today and I really felt the lyrics for some reason. Anyway, hope you'll feel the emotion when you listen... http://soundcloud.com/mike-bromelow/snax-youre-my-world
  17. Thanks guys! I sing for the love and challenge of it these days. I have no desire to compete or try to be better than anyone but my former self. ;)
  18. Hey folks, I haven't been singing much these days so I thought I'd better get my butt in gear and give it a go! lol Here's what I recorded this afternoon. Hope you like it. http://soundcloud.com/mike-bromelow/snax-with-these-hands
  19. THanks Ron. I can "feel" the newer rasp more in the back of my throat. Like I'm gargling water (or beer!). The usual rasp I do is more forward in placement or at least it feels that way. If you listen closely you'll hear where I have to slip from one rasp to another as the vocals go up in pitch. I wish I could just use one rasp all the way through my range but that still eludes me thus far. When I post comments on other singers and praise their rasp I'm being very sincere. It's not an easy thing to do well and is something that I struggle with constantly. Kudos to those of you who have mastered it!
  20. I really don't know if I can explain it but there's more constriction and I feel like my voice is placed more further back in my throat if that makes sense? In this song I actually use both the new rasp and the one I used to use which is brighter sounding. I prefer the newer method of achieving the rasp as far as the sound go. It had a smoother sound and doesn't sound so much like Beavis! lol
