  1. I love it! What the bloody hell high note is that Jens??? wow!! Good job guys and welcome home Marcus.:D
  2. I agree with Guitartrek...you just need to work on this area to reinforce it. cheers
  3. I also think it was great! If I had to criticize, I would say that the higher notes should be 'conquered' clean first and then add distortion for the effects. So, try and hit them clean...open throat...and see if you dry up that way. Keep up the great work! cheers!
  4. Hi, I'm going to say that you have great tone, and good pitch and I would like to hear you sing in your mother tongue. For the English song, I would recommend you work on your accent and vowel pronounciation. I couldn't really understand what you were singing. cheers!
  5. my 2 cents..... I'm here to learn....and so I read alot of posts. BUT when I see Martin and Robert "getting into it" I tune out. I probably miss alot of good information in the meantime but it turns me off. It feels to me like Martin chases Robert around just to stir the pot. This is MY point of view as a "new" member of this site. I'm interested in sounds and how to produce them. Don't give a crap what the "term" is really. I respect the both of you and your knowledge. Sometimes people have to AGREE to DISAGREE! cheers all :D
  6. Hey Bob, bet you didn't think you were going to start a fight eh? Maybe some subsections wouldn't be such a bad idea and there is a section to make suggestions. Let's all try to get along in the sandbox! cheers,
  7. Ron, I have SS ...from Brett...and the message I got is that Speech Level singing means that we shouldn't have to exert ourselves when we sing any more than when we speak. Don't need to push or do anything weird to get notes out. Sometimes we talk louder than other times but to accomplish that we aren't doing anything different with our bodies physically. BUT...to sing, we need to annunciate more, hold notes longer (than talking) and find the right vowel modifications to make it pleasing for the listener. If we talked like that, it would sound very strange. Hope that made sense!
  8. Hi Marcus! Welcome back! Your summer was enjoyable? Are you still there? cheers!
  9. vowel modification helps ALOT when trying to get the right pitch and also help with higher notes. Singing "lightly" is harder than just belting it out. It has to have the intensity but the volume is adjusted. Also, lightly doesn't mean it should be sounding 'airy'. I think you're holding back a bit as well....I mean being a bit shy because you are being recorded. It's hard putting ourselves out there but remember, we want to hear you at your best as the audience. There are lots of posts on this forum about vowel modification. Do some research on that as we don't sing like we talk. You will be amazed at how much it helps! Relax and remember what story you're trying to get across to the audience. Make the story interesting to listen to. You are talented....just needs a bit of tweeking. Cheers!
  10. I think what Frankie is trying to say is that singing along with the original singer will always be easier. When we do this, we are always a split second after the singer starts to sing therefore we "hear" the pitch first and then duplicate it INSTEAD of producing the sound ourselves. We can do this 'singing along' thing forever and really not improve much. If we really want to get some advice and we really want to improve ourselves, find someone that can play and sing along with them or get karaoke tracks to sing to. Otherwise, you are just spinning your wheels. We are not telling you to stop.....just take the next step my friend. cheers!
  11. Hi, I actually like them ALL. They show a different approach and sound to the same song! Kudos to you for doing all this work and showing it to us. I also try and 'own' the song before I attempt different approaches and sounds to add flavour. I especially like #5 because it shows different octaves. This is very interesting and I thank you for posting it. You sound awesome on all of them. Keep up the great work! cheers!
  12. Hi, Without "seeing" you sing, I am hearing that the challenge with pitch lies in the vowel modification and in dropping the jaw a wee bit more when singing. It sounds like your mouth is not quite open enough in other words. I say this because when you do open up with the larger higher parts, the pitch is good. Changing the vowel slightly will help with the delivery of the note as well. Steven Fraser has a post about this somewhere on this forum. He posted it not that long ago. Timing is about relaxing into the song. Feeling it...being one with it. I think also if you relax, alot of the other stuff will fall into place as well. Keep working......you're just about there! cheers!
  13. Hi, If you're not playing an instrument, maybe tap your foot to the beat to keep in time with the song. You're a bit ahead of the song in the beginning. The only other thing for me is putting a bit more edge to help it sound more like rock. Otherwise, pitch sounds good to me and the singing is very good! Keep working! cheers!
  14. What would it mean if you do a bit of coughing the next day? It's like I've worked out...but it's not really sore...but I need to cough the next morning. It's not for long. Like I have to clear my throat. My vocal teacher always told me to cough rather than do 'uhmmm'. thanks!
  15. Hi, Some very good work there! My type of music too. Got any whole songs?
  16. Steven Fraser is the BEST and is very generous giving us all this information on these forums. With people like Steven and Robert Lunte and a score full of other people with valuable knowledge, you will get to your goal in no time! Welcome! cheers!
  17. some pros...ie: Celine Dion have alot of control. Some rockers don't....but remember...they are in professional studios with LOADS of equipment. Use the mic a bit...back up a couple of inches when you are singing louder. The more you play with that with your home studio, the more you will know how to control sound more. :)
  18. ok...had to let it load up for 5 minutes first! Great job for all of you! Talented trio. ...it's great now...like I said before...it will be kickass when you've polished it a bit more. Keep working it..
  19. so much undiscovered talent out there! That guy is awesome! (the analog example I'm talking about) thanks for sharing...I will now go check out Chaka Khan with a different perspective. :)
  20. it keeps restarting for me... But what I heard was really good! Keep it up....it will be kick ass good when you sing it some more! :)
  21. Rich.....for us to comment we would have to have a sample of you singing alone with just accompaniment mixed as best as possible. what I mean is you singing....not singing along with the original song. find a karaoke version and try again. cheers!
  22. I'm guessing by the way that you're singing that your voice is too loud in your headphones....and there's too much reverb in the headphones as well. I can determine this by your holding back where you need to sing "louder with more passion". You are hearing it loud in the headphones and you think you're too loud...so you are holding back. yes? pull back on the volume and the reverb in the headphones. I would say minimal reverb and then you will get a real sense of how you sound......ie: pitch....actual sound...resonance...etc. Try it again. :)
  23. Hi, I hear a bit of Dennis DeYoung (Styx...Canadian band) in there too. Nice job! Great control...great pitch...are you playing some instruments too?
  24. keeping my voice steady and vibrant while running and jumping around on stage! I guess I should start jogging and singing at the same time and build up some muscle momentum eh? ;)
