  1. I saw a video of Ducktales theme with real ducks and I had to sing this Lol but on the serious note, I'm getting closer to my "Adam Lambertish" voice. There is quite little gap between my falsetto and connected voice, it has all become quite high and lifted, and connection is getting stronger and more flexible. At least when my voice is in good shape and warmed up a bit things seem to work wonderfully. How's it sounding? https://app.box.com/s/ei372cpgfrxdv6vccgr7
  2. Thanks guys. Ronws I agree with what you said. Wabba I haven't worked on any particular song, or even with rasp in any focused way. It's there on the "good days" when my voice is in a good shape and / or well warmed up, and I've been just throwing it around whenever I feel like going for it. I haven't done it much, but mostly on Michael Jackson songs recently.
  3. Lucca and Bronya thanks! Yes I do have a high voice :)
  4. Thanks Owen, it really felt like a good balance. I definitely put some extra "restrain" or "squeeze" or whatever and it did not feel uncomfortable in any way. But I am not completely sure what I did either, my voice seemed to be in a nice and warmed up state and then things happened sort of intuitively. I just put a little extra attitude and did something little different in my throat.
  5. Just half jokingly I was singing and started to scream with rasp. I was surprised that it came out so well, and the high note definitely surprised me. Also I'm very happy how connected my voice is here. What do you think? https://app.box.com/s/a56f6ywmm40bgdv5sn8g
  6. Thank you for your feedback everyone! Ronws, I agree with the breathiness and inconsistency on the lower part, but it is also a stylistic thing that I pursue, that I hear some light voices like Adam Lambert and Michael Jackson do, they tend to be soft and tender on the low end and add intensity on the way through passagio and on the higher register. That's kinda what I'm after. Phil, yes I'm interested in working on that now.. Xamedhi thank you also for your tips, I will look into them. Rockme12 thank you for the compliment! MDEW I actually recorded something in a bit lower register for you but it got lost with all the files Today I did some Michael Jackson though. It's high register again and once again I'm trying to sing the low end softly and heady, but I think this sounds a bit more natural this time. Don't know, what do you guys think? https://app.box.com/s/l1t9qpsdme18mkvdgmgg Edit: Fixed the link
  7. Hey guys, Can you help me to start working on a fuller and more balanced tone? My tone is so squeezed, "high", heady and sometimes nasal. I'm weary of this because I have such a "headvoice lift" or "headvoice ramp" going on that I have worked on, headvoice and high range is quite easily accessible and headvoice musculature is quite dominant. You know, Frisell stuff So I don't want to lose any of this development and ease, I want to develop a tenor voice that sits very high, like Robert Plant or Adam Lambert. But I need to work on a fuller tone. I'm always so afraid to work on my chest or engage chest fully, but then I end up sounding squeeky and my tone has no fullness or depth. Here's something I did to day. I tried to put as much deepness into this as I felt comfortable with. My voice leans a lot into headvoice musculature even in passagio, which feels wonderful. https://app.box.com/s/jijy2n8cdndedbqkbcsx
  8. Great to hear geno. That's exactly how I feel about my voice right now. I have some control and freedom from tension. Also check out my Bruno Mars acapella clip that I just posted if you like!
  9. Hi guys, acapella once again. My voice has been getting stronger during the last weeks. I'm thinking that all the building up and preparatory work is paying off, all the Frisell falsetto stuff that I've been doing for ages. Hopefully my tone will grow quite a bit from what it is now, but at least the headvoice and mix is there, strong and flexible, I feel a lot of control on my voice and breath support, and I can throw some vibrato on my mixed voice. What do you think? https://app.box.com/s/shfkw948ncacuyb1kxdt
  10. Hi guys, long time. I think I have progressed in the direction that I want to. https://app.box.com/s/iwx0n74m7pu9p8lmazrw At 0:40 I do a diminuendo after belting some full voice stuff. This is the kind of mixed voice mechanism that I've been working on. Ability to diminuendo and crescendo and use different sound colors and vowels in a flexible way. I hate pulling chest and all kinds of pushing and I love a powerful mixed voice. What do you think?
  11. Geno, I can't stop listening to this, this is just breathtakingly amazing. Thank you for posting this.
  12. Thanks ronws and MDEW. Nothing that particular that I did, I feel like slowly my falsetto / headvoice has grown and recently it has been strong enough for me to work it a bit more intensely, and to go for a deeper mix. And I've started to try to engage bit more chest and open up my headvoice / mix. That's what I'm trying to do right now.
  13. Hi guys! I've been doing Frisell-approach on my own for one and half years now. It has really lifted my voice higher, my chest voice has become lighter and "headier" and headvoice has become stronger and more developed. Mixed voice is becoming a reality. I've just recently started to experience some real progress, after a LOOOONG time of headvoice slides, messa di voce etc Here's something I improvised and fooled around with an hour after my workout. The high range was ridiculously easily accessible and headvoice musculature was so dominant in control, never experienced something like this before. Dry: http://maihinnousu.net/s/20537 Comp + eq + reverb http://maihinnousu.net/s/20539 Just felt like sharing! Feels like I'm finally getting somewhere with this Long way to develop my voice to a professional level of course, but I feel like a switch is really happening, from chest dominance to head dominance, which is an important step according to Frisell.
  14. "And to that person that was pointing out 0.005 second little tiny pitch issues. okay to you it may be a big deal, but to rob and just about anyone else it isn't." I just want to say that just as much as it is some of your opinions that pitchiness in some performances do not matter and do not bother you, somebody elses opinion may be that the same pitchiness matters and distracts or irritates him. Both are just opinions as far as I see and if one should be allowed to be expressed, so should the other. Clearly it is okay in this thread to say that the pitchiness doesn't matter because majority seems to agree with that, but the other point is still there and it is someones opinion. Is it okay to say that too? And I don't think that the person expressing an opinion needs to think about wether others agree or not or wether it is a big deal to others or not. He is simply stating his own opinion as it is and the rest is none of his business. Others take it the way they choose to.
  15. Thank you for the feedback Manolito. I'm glad to hear that you liked my sound and style. Just to make sure, by "mix" you mean the mix of the recording and not the balance of my registers or "mixed voice"?
  16. Hi guys, Can you give me constructive criticism on my voice and my singing? https://www.dropbox.com/s/rueez5pca3mfe9z/Sherlok%20-%20promo.mp3 This is a mash up of four songs. You can skip through the second song if you like, I don't sing in that one.
  17. Holy crap this sounded good! I agree with some points made, the falsetto part E5 D5 C5 etc should be way edgier imo. Also I think that the first falsetto part C5 B4 A4 etc would be better if the melody was unaltered, now it was just distracting to me, not so sensitive anymore. On the other hand the end screams and alterations were amazing and the C6 sounded great! My humble opinion, others may differ :)
  18. I felt like I was listening to an artist and not a vocal demonstration on a vocalist forum. I liked it and I think you got personality there, it really captured me. Edit: And you sing really well!
  19. mamade, in my opinion both your chest and the high screams sound really good. The problem to me is that they are totally disconnected from each other. If only you could bridge that gap and blend them together in the range G4-D5, it would be totally impressive! Right now you even changed the melody in the chorus at "hey hey hey hey". You sang it way up high in pure head, no mix. If you had sang the original melody, which is A4 B4 D5 B4, your pure "scream" headvoice would have been weak on the low notes, and on the other hand the chest would have been hard to pull on the high notes. I get the feeling that you could benefit from Ken Tamplin? He pulls chest extremely high and then manages to mix it with head even way up higher and go all the way through to the soprano range like this. Anyway, just my first thoughts. Can you do a siren from, for example from E4 to E5 with "Eh" vowel, starting with chest and gradually thinning/releasing/stretching into headvoice, with no break?
  20. Here's a couple of acapella samples of my voice. I haven't practiced these songs, I was just fooling around. But I have practiced vocal exercises to strengthen and open up my headvoice and structure my passagio. Here I stay as much in head resonance as I can, all pretty much above passagio. "Whole lotta love": http://maihinnousu.net/s/19853 Here I sing a bit in passagio, demonstrating some dynamics going from soft to loud. This is pretty much the result of strengthening my low headvoice tones and doing messa di voce -exercise. "Come together": http://maihinnousu.net/s/19852 I'm going to start working with Robert's Pillar program within a week or so. This is my "pre-Pillars recording" :)
  21. What do you think about my voice in this short clip? http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8384032/2013/2013-01-08%20Another%20part%20of%20me.mp3 I tried to get a fuller sound and lean into the voice harder than usually. With this kind of song it is possible for me since I don't need to support long legato phrases, dynamics and hard vowel changes (something I want to learn really bad though). I realize I sang this with a bit of Michael Jackson style, pressing hard on the voice, but I'd like to learn to sing like Adam Lambert would do it, with smooth, legato singing and so balanced mixed voice, perfect breathing/support etc. Any tips to get me towards that kind of singing are appreciated, as usual For reference, this is how Adam Lambert sings Michael Jackson:
  22. Hi guys, I feel like I've made progress. Here's a bit of Adam Lambert: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8384032/2012/2012-11-13%20If%20I%20had%20yoy1.mp3 Make sure to turn the volume up, it's pretty low volume recording.. The progress is that my headvoice is stronger and more dominant than before, I'm able to lean to it more, rely on it more, use more dynamics with it and also bridge earlier. But I still have that nasal narrow sound, maybe even more pronounced now after all this headvoice work. And I think my voice sounds weak. Any suggestions on what to work on now? Surely I will keep on doing Messa di voce and try to strengthen my voice even more and swell more chest musculature, depth and balanced resonance into my mix. But I would be open to suggestions if you have any!
  23. Jugulator I think you have a great voice and technique and I think I hear improvement from some older recordings I've heard from you here. Two things that keep bothering me are that around passagio you start pronouncing some words really funnily, and also you have some massive hand gesture mannerisms going on there. Great job with the singing, I wish all the best for you!
