  1. here is me doing grenade with a head voice type tone. i find that if i practice a high song like this, after a while, like a month, i find it's easier to start to add weight to it. http://www.box.net/shared/r1i6zqck71
  2. i'll say this. Bruno Mars has a really high speaking voice, so those notes he sings come easier to him, they are natural to him. I think you'd be better off lowering the key of the song, otherwise it's going to sound forced.
  3. i thought about the breathing recommendation. I realized that when i sing, i don't take deep enough breaths. Basically when i try to sing those high notes, i almost have no breath in me, like i am holding my breath. I don't think this is correct. I experimented with taking deeper breaths and it made things a little bit easier, i could establish a better hold on the notes.
  4. 1. nope, i just sing for fun, but i want it to sound as good as it can. 2. sure, i'm not in a rush though 3. i am 22 4. yep, i've taken vocal lessons with 4 different teachers in the past we talked about that. These teachers were more classical based rather then modern. i just never really pay attention to the breathing, i just let it happen naturally. maybe this is another thing i've taken from singing success, and maybe it's a bad thing.
  5. i'm new to recording audio like this for please excuse the pauses and staggered robotic talking, i'm not used to it. i feel this is a better way to ask questions rather then typing it out. as it's hard to get the meaning of things through text sometimes. especially when it comes to vocal techniques. http://www.box.net/shared/iv1r7a2ocg
  6. i plan on making a podcast type of clip on friday. where i ask a bunch of questions, and demonstrate some things that i'm doing. Hopefully a clip of me talking and demonstrating stuff that i do, will help people be able to help me better. It will work better the me trying to type what i'm doing.
  7. here is my attempt at for no one. i tried to do it quietly. Am i even on the right track with learning this technique? http://www.box.net/shared/da9b1mfkbg
  8. it's what paul mccartney achieves with his voice, that is my ultimate goal. I WANT THAT! here is another video where he shows his mastery of high tones, and singing lightly and not having to sing loud. Forget all the high pitched rock screaming vocals, if i can achieve this sound, my vocal journey will be complete. It is all i want. As of now, the only way i feel that i would be able to learn this is through private lessons which i can't afford right now. Unless, someone wants to be really kind and kind of make some kind of Podcast audio explaining step by step what they are doing with their voice to achieve this. explaining what the hell curbing, and twang is, etc. light curbing. i do not understand those terms at all.
  9. a lot of people have told me i do that. Slide into pitches. I don't do it consciously. What are some good ways of trying to fix this?
  10. this is exactly what i am looking to do, whenever i try to do that beginning "ahh look at all the lonely people" i either get really loud, or my voice breaks apart. I don't know what to do or how to practice getting the effect i'm after. I also did a cover of eleanor rigby but i did it much differently then the way you do it. basically using falsetto for all high parts. I'd appreciate if you'd listen guitartrek http://www.box.net/shared/dg1koumr6y
  11. can you explain "onsetting more directly" better? i don't know what you mean also what is KTVA?
  12. here is a clip of me singing yesterday. http://www.box.net/shared/984ya51c4d however i noticed that whenever i hear paul sing it, he has this tone to his voice where when he goes higher, it seems like his volume doesn't get any higher, it just sounds really smooth. i want to be able to get my voice to sound more pleasant. here is an example of paul singing it live
  13. hmm, because sometimes i know exactly what im doing, yet someone still comes and says "it needs more confidence" sometimes i'm not sure what i have to do to fix that.
  14. i've heard this told to me in the past, and i've heard it said to other singers. what does it mean exactly? i usually hear it said when a singer sings softly. so to me it seems like confidence = being louder? what if the song calls for singing softly?
  15. http://www.box.net/shared/kg47f26tej static appears, not sure what caused it, sorry.
  16. yes i believe i have it in me. and it's a little bit of both, general person and myself.
  17. so basically with enough training and hard work, anyone can learnt o sing as high as they want? basically classifications like bass, tenor, baritone don't matter? i kind of find it hard to believe, since i'm sure there has to be some limitations. the majority population believe is that only some people are born with the capacity for a very high range. and that you cannot learn to sing higher then what you are born with. basically is it possible for anyone to get adam lambert like range, power, and quality? another example, anyone with training can sing michael jackson, but there voice will probably be deeper then his right? the vocal classifications define how deep or light the voice sounds, not range, correct?
  18. i always liked this song http://www.box.net/shared/8nk4hm1ldo
  19. someone told me i need to add more chest presence to my voice, and work on breath support more. i tried to apply these concepts to a song. what do you think of this? is this better then the light way i used to sing before? http://www.box.net/shared/lqliaso929
  20. it sees to come off that way on the recording, but on the chorus i am actually singing pretty loud. i guess i sing softly because if i add more "chest" i start to think "oh no, i'm adding more weight, weight at the top is bad"
  21. i want to throw this question out there, because i am curious. after hearing my recordings, what style of music would you think would best suit my voice?
  22. decided to give this a try. i still seem to pull up chest, and crack on the high notes though. http://www.box.net/shared/9cllpr9ljm i want to be able to work up to this kind of vocal style, this is one of my ultimate goals, so i try to sing songs in a similar style. of course i'd never be able to sound like him, but i want that similar kind of power, and smoothness. One thing i like about his voice is how sometimes he starts quiet and then the note just blooms louder and louder.
