  1. It might sounds funny, but I suck at whistling There are songs that include whistling , like Scorpions - Wind of Change, or Guns n Roses - Patience, I think you all know those two... and it could be nice effect you want to include in your own songs. The problem is my whistle is always breathy and very quiet. I think I properly put my mouth for it and everything, but still it's very lame. I can't put too much power in it and it sounds lame! It's interesting because when I sing I have naturally loud voice, but whistling not. So anyone has any tips on better whistling in songs? Nikola
  2. Hey guys and gals I'm in the process of practicing my songwriting skills right now... Anyone into it? Does anyone know any good products (books, dvd courses, software, website resource... whatever) which can help you become better songwriter? Nikola
  3. Hi, I'm working on my support right now and I found out that if I push really really hard from my stomach (not throat pushing!! .. abdominal push) I can get some notes I usually couldn't. That's something new for me, I was never used to push really hard from abdominal area, but basically I just make my abs really really hard when I do that, like gym hard, in that second that I need to hit that note, and I push really hard from my stomach. So did I just found how to add more support for louder and heavier notes. Do you have to push really hard from your abdomen to hit loud and high notes with powerful volume. So basically the more you have to sing louder and higher at the same time, your abs must go stronger and stronger and you have to push from your abs (someone will call it diaphragm, but I'm not because diaphragm is only for inhaling). Am I in the right direction? Tnx ;)
  4. Hey guys, since I'm just working on modes, can someone break-up this song for me.. This is probably the sound I'm aiming for, since I love this powerful full rock voices like these guys have... 1) Shinedown - Second Chance So there is: - the first part which is very low, starting at 0:12 - which mode? - higher singing part starting at 00:35 - which mode is this? - chorus starting at 00:52. - ? 2) Seether - Careless Whisper - he start singing at 00:35 - this is lower part, which mode is this? - then chorus at 01:05 - which mode? - and there is this "please STAAAAY" scream at 03:25 - which mode is that? Can you help, please? ;)
  5. When I add more exhale pressure then needed, what comes from it is that I have problem with stamina/endurance, cause my voice gets tired after a bit of singing. I can't sing too long (maybe after 30mins of constant singing my throat gets tired a bit) because it's demanding to sing with max support. So I can't sing longer shows like 2hours. I can hit really demanding notes, pretty high, but it's just that I somehow over-do-it when exhaling, and if I try to lower that pressure I will sometimes not be able to hit those same notes because I guess then my support is not enough... so I guess it's hard for me TO FIND CORRECT BALANCE BETWEEN TOO MUCH AND TOO LITTLE SUPPORT (I intentionally made that uppercase because that's the basic) - I either go with too much or too little support if I try lower it down... I will try things you guys mentioned. Tnx. I guess it will come with more practice now that I know what is the problem, and if you and someone else has any more ideas, it's appreciated Nikola
  6. Hey, I realized that I often support my notes with a bit more pressure then needed, as I always go for my best, just so that I can show up so i support a bit more just to be heard. So are there any tips and tricks on how you can control support pressure effectively. Just to be clear, I know how to support notes, I understand support, I don't inhale more then needed (I take just a little amount of air), I just add more pressure when exhaling then needed. Now, I'm not the guy who sings lightly too often, I sing rock and that has to have volume, but I think I do it a bit too much. So if I just try to back off support, I will not add enough volume and resonance to make a good clear loud sound. So what are some tricks to play with breath pressure, to control it to its best, I'm talking about the exhaling part of supporting notes, the inhaling is not the problem, and lower your support JUST A LITTLE more then you are used too... Regards, Nikola Vejin
  7. Hi there, my problem is that some days I can sing easily with good support and belt out notes effectively... But some days I find myself singing with a bit more throat because I just can't support notes good. In those days I try to support notes but it just wont go, and it goes on my throat. Don't know if I can explain that better. I can aim my voice to resonate in soft palate or go for yawn or whatever but it wont work, I still find myself singing from throat... And just next day if I try the same thing I can find my support to be great, and I don't use too much trhoat But I basically try to sing totally same way both days, and do same things, but one day support is there, the other is not... So how do you control and fix this? I'm not sure if this is valid question and if you get what I mean, but I hope so Tnx ;)
  8. Hey there, before asking my questions I want to point out few things: - I eat very well. I have very good "singers diet" (I guess it can be called like that). I don't eat almost any sugar, fast food, fat etc... don't smoke... don't drink alcohol pretty often... no coke or similar drinks... I eat pretty much healthy food, lots of vegetables, fruits etc... lots of water... So I guess my nutrition for vocal health is the best possible that it can be. - I avoid losing my voice through singing. Whenever it hurts of it feels uncomfortable I stop. - I exercise (fitness) - I do everything possible to keep my voice in best shape! Now, after saying that... all this helped me get some stamina or singing endurance, call it what you like But still, I have this big problem that I lose my voice very fast in unhealthy environment... For example, I was practicing few new songs last month, they were pretty demanding to sing, but I learned them pretty good... For last few weeks I sang them great! And yesterday, there was some acoustic show of my friends where I was to sing a couple of songs and play on guitar in between their two sets as a guest. I was so happy that I will sing my new learned songs. But then, when I arrived to the gig, the environment was so uncomfortable to my voice... It was full of cigarette smoke, the music was pretty loud so when I had to talk with some friends I had to talk a bit louder then normally, and I just drank one beer (with a lot of water after it) but I guess it also had effect on my vocals. So basically I was there only 1 hour before I was to sing but my voice was pretty wasted by then, and I chose to sing some easier songs because my throat was not the healthiest at the time. I still sang those songs pretty good and was very well accepted by audience, they all told me I stole the show (I'm not so full of my self every day, it's only sometimes hehe) but I am now pretty unhappy that I trashed my voice in only one hour through passive smoking, drinking one beer, talking over loud music... but usually those are things you can't skip if you go to friend's gig... So basically question is: anyone has any tips on how to do it? protecting your voice from "passive" (or should I say un-intentional) abuse... How do you do it when you go to a loud party where you are about to sing a bit later on? What can we do to prevent ourselves from loosing our voice there... ;)
  9. Hi there, I have a problem that I usually find it hard to sing before something like 3-4 p.m. every day. I can sing pretty good very well high notes afternoon and even better in the evenings (I find my range is awesome in the evenings, I can sing most of the commercial songs in the evenings with great technique), but when I wake up my range is pretty lower, my voice is pretty deeper (like a frog voice) and need hours to be ready for good singing... and over and over like that every day... So I was wondering what would be good warm-up for edge and curbing (I guess that is what I'm missing - warmups..). I mostly sing rock, it's mostly 'edge' I think, but often it's also curbing for many notes. I almost never use 'neutral' - I'm pretty bad with it but for the music I sing I pretty much don't need it too much at the moment So also, what can I do beside warming-up to make my voice prepared more faster after I wake up, and my range more like in the evenings faster?
  10. I wrote on that email 3 months ago! I will try now one more last time :/ Tnx ;)
  11. Hey, good for you Can you tell me on which email you wrote because I tried few?...
  12. Hey there, I was just wondering if everyone can give thoughts about how to maintain the voice everyday. So what are usually some things you do every day to maintain your voice. How to make it always STABLE? But the thing I'm MOST INTERESTED in is: when to sing and when to shut-up? I'm currently happy with my singing but I have this constant problem that I sing-a-long almost everything, I just love to sing and sometimes I might just loose my voice because I have to sing whenever I hear some song on tv or radio or when I have some melody in my head. So do you usually sing-a-long everything you hear, or it's better to just shut-up for the whole day and save your voice and sing only and just only when you perform or practice. I guess I somehow answered my own question but would like to hear more thoughts and how do you do it.... Nikola
  13. Unfortunately, I can't answer your question, but just want to point out that I also registered on CVT forum but it was even TWO MONTHS AGO and they still have not activated my account! I even wrote them personal email on several emails they have on site with no answer. It's putty, because I have CVT program but can't joy the forum to discuss, and I guess there are more people like that :/ Strange...
  14. Hi, I have just stumbled upon one very interesting interview which Jaime Vendera (great known vocal teacher you all probably heard about) did with Myles Kennedy (one of the greatest new vocalists you also probably heard about , singing in Alter Bridge, and now touring with Slash). Myles is great singer as we all know, and he is always willing to share some thoughts about singing techniques with us, so I recommend you read this because there are some very clever thoughts about how to sing properly, how to keep your voice healthy, maintaining your voice while touring (which we will one day hehe) etc... Very nice interview. http://www.thevoiceconnection.com/myleskennedyi.html Now, one part that caught up my attention is this one: Jaime: Any exercises that help? Myles: It’s all a matter of how you manipulate the vowels as you ascend. A goes to uh, ah goes to oh, e goes to a. It’s not that simple unfortunately. In conjunction with that, I keep the air going through my nose while raising the soft palette (like yawning) and snarling at the same time. It took me years to get this down. It is a lot to think about while trying to perform. Now, as I don't have the best understanding with terms like raising soft palette (I know what it means, but not sure if I ever do it correctly, I mean - yawning while you sing, what does that definitely means and why we do it?), and this manipulation of vowels is something I would like to work on (I know CVT technique use this a lot) - so I would like to hear some thoughts about this part of interview and some of the explanations of what Myles said here (I think we all want to get into it:). It's not that I totally don't understand it (I have Singing Success and CVT, I'm very familiar with the first one, which helped me a little, and will work with CVT soon) but can we try to elaborate this stuff.. hmm Read interview fully, it's pretty pretty good stuff every singer should read and know Nikola
  15. Hey guys, ok, here is me singing U2 - One : http://www.box.net/shared/i6xnc2kecy Now, simply, I would like if you can listen to that and give me any possible tips/comments about my singing. How good is it? ...btw, I know attempt at screaming at the end in this recording is not so easy to listen, but I managed to fix that later on, this was recorded before .. Also, I think I sing too much using my chest resonance, or maybe a mixed voice, for me it's like very default, and I tried learning that 'singing in head voice' stuff for months (I bought Singing Succes at one point) and that just didn't work for me at all, and when I say 'at all' I mean AT ALL!! so I guess something like head voice is not the term very familiar to me (or it is? You tell me... and it's much more easier for me to sing like I do this song. Also, based on this being my type of singing: is there any good product for vocal lessons (DVD, book..) you recomend that I can learn from, just don't let it be Singing Succes.. nothing against them, I know it works wonders for many people, but I'm not one of them Any thoughts and words of visdom appreceated Tnx, Nikola
  16. Hi guys and girls, here is me trying to sing U2 - One : http://www.box.net/shared/i6xnc2kecy I would like to hear some thoughts about my singing (I also play guitar here but I'm more interested how you liked my voice)? Any thoughts or comments are very appreciated. Tnx, Nikola
