I could be wrong here, but isn't this a "review and critique" section? I mean people are just offering their thoughts on a cover. Just because you are a vocal coach, and co-founder of this forum, does that leave you immune from criticism? I'm not trying to bust anyone's balls, this is just my observation. I don't post here much, so no ill intended

I am the Highway

Sounded pretty good dude, one of my favorite tunes. My only critique is the top note in the choruses, and the final chorus at the end. Sounds a bit strained on parts. Other than that, I liked it. -

Damn...this sounds great dude! One of the few Live songs that I actually like, and you nailed it. -
Like A Stone - Chris Cornell

Thanks guys!...I'm always leery about covering anything Cornell does. Mainly just because I hear "his" voice in my head and it never sounds right to me, lol. But yeah, like you guys said...I was more or less trying to capture the feeling of the tune. This is way OT, but my 13yr old lab died Wednesday, and for some reason Like a Stone kinda felt fitting. I know it's not about his dog dying, but it related to how I was feeling... Thanks again, and @skynight - that's me on guitar too. -

Thanks dude!...yeah, I've been working with the Ken Tamplin stuff...who encourages bridging as late as possible. Still working on the kinks...G4 seems to be my chest limit at the moment. -
Hey guys....been awhile. Just getting back into singing after about 2 months of nothing, had a little vocal issue. Anyways, give it a listen if you want...comments welcome. http://picosong.com/37eG/

Slither - Velvet Revolver

Thanks man, I appreciate it! When I do this live it's usually balls out. I can't ever get the same intensity recording as I do live...gotta figure out how to get the adrenaline pumping when I'm recording, lol -

Thanks for the constructive critique! Yeah, my whole goal is to sound like Weiland. I play in a cover band for a living and it really sells when I can sound pretty close to the original artist. As far as the legato lines in the verses, I will def work on those to tighten them up. As far as the lyrics themselves, are you talking about diction?...now that I go back and listen, there are def a couple flatties in there too. -

A little Marilyn Manson
staticsound replied to staticsound's topic in REVIEW YOUR SINGING - SHARE YOUR SINGING
Thanks guys! Yeah, I couldn't find very many instrumentals for MM...there are several others I would have rather done...oh well. As far as "I Put a Spell on You"....really wish I could find a backing track for that! Either Manson or Screamin Jay Hawkins. Love that tune -
Beautiful People....not much singing, but a lot of fry screaming http://picosong.com/weK2/

Thanks guys! Been trying to get a decent mix of tunes recorded. Now that my cover band isn't gigging as much, I actually have time to get some recording done, lol... -
Hey guys, just hammered this out....trying to get the "Weiland" voice down. Thoughts? http://picosong.com/wkMM/

Would? AIC cover..
staticsound replied to staticsound's topic in REVIEW YOUR SINGING - SHARE YOUR SINGING
Yeah, I noticed that too with their new guy. I was watching a couple live clips of recent shows, it seems he has a "thicker" sound than Layne. His distorted parts seem to have more of a "beefy" sound as well. He sounds good, and sounds close to Layne at times...I'm glad Cantrell didn't go with a complete Layne clone though. -

Thanks man! That's a huuuge compliment to me, being that Layne is who inspired me to start singing. I know what you mean about my tone being a little lighter, I've been experimenting with trying to get a darker tone, but I haven't been able to accomplish it yet...damn genetics, lol -
Kinda of sick of doing MIB and Rooster, and figured I'd give Would? a go, since I've never tried to do it, lol. Thinking about adding it to my 90's grunge act's set. Thoughts? http://soundcloud.com/static-prevails/would

Cool, thanks man! True about Cornell, he's got that very strong head tone. But if my ears aren't deceiving me, he's got that "rattle" effect going on as well. It's weird, I can do it easy in a lower pitch around maybe an F3 and take it up to almost middle C, but after that I lose it and go into that fry effect. Guess that's what practice is for, lol.

Cool, thanks guys! I'm trying to work on more of that chesty scream Layne has. Mine's more of a vocal fry thing, I guess it works for now. I need to put a better Soundgarden clip on there, I can hit most of the notes Cornell does, but it's back to getting that chesty scream going...work in progress, lol. @Snax...never tried Judas Priest, maybe I'll give it a shot.
