  1. That is about what I figured.  It is definitely a combination and some songs sound far more speech level and some far rounder and closer to an opera style.  I have heard that he can easily fill up a hall without a microphone but the songs he sings are not designed to be used in that fashion.
  2. Really?  I've always figured he had a classical background.  What is interesting with him is it is practically impossible to find him talking about his training, technique or background.  There is basically no information available on that.
  3. Most people on here have heard Phelps and probably heard the song I am about to post.  I am just amazed every time I listen to it because there are SO MANY different mastered techniques throughout this song but despite the technicality the emotional is still on point.     What to you are the most impressive techniques in the song?  Obviously the notes at the end are huge, and the transitioning from a soft tone to a heavy tone is very impressive but for me "divine" at 1:47 is the most impressive.  He isn't changing his distance from the mic at all for that.     '>   Ironically he is a very loud breather, which from looking at some recent threads that seems to be an area some people think can hamper a singer.
  4. Claudio Sanchez actually has a done of versatility in his voice if you listen to some of his other work.  He has a great Heaven and Hell (Dio) cover, can scream, can also sing powerful and soft well.     He has a good recent video out.  Definitely uses a lot more volume than Perry but really knows how to thin and shed at the same time.   '>
  5. David Phelps is not new but he basically is what my vocal technique consists of. Only mine is nowhere near as good.
  6. Already follow you on Youtube and Facebook. Another great cover, keep up the good work. I think the transitioning is being done about as well as it can be. I normally can offer some advice on these critiques but I really can't find anything to tell you.
  7. This is why posture is important and completely makes sense in your case. Standing properly, you can only breath the right way but if you keep in extreme anterior pelvic tilt, for example, the abs will not be engaged at all and the back will over overly tight. I was one of the aforementioned "tilters" and that made most of the advice I got on support completely useless because my basic setup was so far off from where it should be. This is why Felipe says that people need to find their own cue because some ideas just do not work because of anatomy, genetics, tendencies, etc.
  8. This is actually the exact same way I found support and it was through good instruction from Felipe. When I lose it, it is the light contraction that I forget about and then I have no support. Trying to overly relax and expand my belly earlier in training made it more difficult to me because I trained a bad habit into being natural.
  9. I don't know who is worse between the vocalist and the rest of the band. The drummer isn't awful so I'll have to go with the vocalist.
  10. That first clip is definitely falsetto from a classical definition.
  11. No, I wouldn't classify that person as a bass without a lot more information. When you are singing styles of music like that and changing configurations and placement all the time, it is literally impossible to know.
  12. Nothing they are singing has the demands that properly allow a classification. If it is just about having a certain sound, myself and tons and tons of other people, could be any of the male classifications, although that would not be accurate. Those classifications, especially for the style of music they are singing, is completely useless.
  13. How do you have any idea what Trey Songz or R kKelly are?
  14. I don't have too much time here but I will try to answer your questions. The demands, with really good support, should be less on your vocal mechanism that they currently are. It will be much more physical and more tiring in different ways, but you will love the freedom, stamina, versatility and tone that it will bring. Yes you can maintain that with good technique in rock singing. At first the focus will be more on your support but that will eventually become automatic or very close to automatic. When that is working well, without even focusing on it, you will have FAR MORE freedom to make changes in your sound, add rasp, belt, change modes, have a balanced emission, strong vibrato, etc. I would venture to say that once you get the support right, you will quickly understand what belting is because that ability will all of the sudden be available to you where right now, with your current level of support, it probably isn't even an option. You don't have to join a gym but I would strongly encourage you to be in good physical condition and do a good ammount of cardio work. No you don't have to be born with that ability. In fact, Pat Benatar probably did not have that developed at all since she was so far into classical music. What she did have was real solid foundation when it came to support and technique. Learning for her was probably very easy because like belting, that was available to her without straining the vocal mechanism.
  15. I actually thought this was your best job when it comes to sounding American, so to speak. The main place I hear it creep in is on the word "world" but I can't tell if it is the 'r' or the 'l', I just know it sounds different.
  16. You will need to learn how to sing. How old are you and what type of music do you enjoy singing?
  17. It is almost like you don't have or have lost the ability to tilt.
  18. I don't think that is anything major. That probably came from doing the hooty falsettos because they are so new for your voice. My voice, while in very good shape had some hoarseness after doing a lot of descending falsetto slides for the first time a few weeks ago. Your voice should come back better tomm or the next day. I am just curious. Can you do the things that Tony is doing in this videos? (Watch 1-4) For example the light ng sirens and the puppy sound?
