  1. Honest feedback on areas to improve would be greatly appreciated. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10813900/Hunger%20Strike.mp3
  2. Sounded awesome to me. The mix sounds good too, I really like the rumbling, walking bass. There's tasty blues guitar licks going to.
  3. It sounds like you're embarassed by your voice and are deliberately (maybe sub consciously) holding back. Listen to Keith, he knows what he's about.
  4. When I started out about a year ago I couldn't sing any notes in tune. It really helped me to play a single note on my guitar and just make sound with my mouth. I'd raise and lower the pitch of the sound until it rang in unison with the note, just like when you are tuning your strings. I did that over and over until I got used to the sound when it was in tune and when it was out of tune. I still can't sing in tune very well but since doing those exercises I've improved and at least now I can usually tell when I'm out of tune. I play bass too and it's not so easy to sing with a bass, so if you can get access to a keyboard or guitar it will really help you. Best of luck. Also, I'm a real believer in the power of the mind. If you state that you are going to be very bad it generally becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. If you wish to improve stop calling your videos "really poor" etc. Remember your mind is listening and it will respond!!:)
  5. Hi guys, I'm trying to watch out for dipthongs, I had to look that one up Ron!! What do you guys think? Am I close to being to sing at a party and not be embarrassed? What else could I do to improve? http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10813900/Plush.mp3
  6. Hi guys, I'm still working away on my singing technique. I've been trying to have more fun with it lately. I couldn't find any ocean sound effects but I did try a Beatles style three part harmony for the chorus. Any comments or suggestions for improvement would be greatly appreciated. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10813900/Yellow%20Submarine.mp3
  7. Hi all, I'm still working hard trying to improve my pitch, breathing and control. My goal is pretty modest: to eventually sing a song at a party with friends without making a show of myself. I'm not there yet, but I think I'm getting better. This is a single, straight up take with the guitar played at the same time, the way it would be at a party. The first line or two in a song always feels awkward to me, and this is no exception. Any feedback or pointers for improvement are very welcome. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10813900/Your%20Song.mp3
  8. Great singing, pitch and tone was good to me. Your accent is quite strong. The mix is good too, did you do all the instruments yourself?
  9. I really enjoyed that, well done. Weird, I was just thinking about Raspberry Berry before logging in here.
  10. Any advise on this one? It seems to be comfortably in my range. I'm struggling to come in exactly on the note and also still trailing off. Any suggesting for improving on that? Any other things you notice that could be improved? http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10813900/Wake%20Up.mp3
  11. This sounds great! The vocal could sit better in the mix, but I've no idea how to do that.
  12. I'm with Tommy. It will really help you to sing along with a backing track, or even the original. It clear that you're trying to be quiet, but it really wont help your singing at all. Try putting the song on at a good volume in your headphones and then sing along with it into your PC/laptop mic. Find a time when nobody else will be at home and just go for it. Best of luck.
  13. This is a single take of me singing along to Losing My Religion. The original song is in my headphones to give me a reference. There is no effects whatsoever, just whatever the mike picked up (including me bumping against the stand!). I've left it deliberately this way so you can here the raw vocal. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10813900/Losing%20My%20Religion.wav It feels like I'm improving over where I started from. Any advice for improvement would be greatly appreciated. Is pitch ok? I know the timing is off in spots. How is the tone, something I can improve on?
  14. Sounded great to me, even though I don't know the song. One the high notes towards; to me it sounded like you were hesitant in hitting them and that caused you to be slightly flat, you have the note though so no need to be so concerned. I listened right through to the end, which is a good sign.
  15. Great job mate, that's how it should be done! The only thing I can suggest for improvement is that there is a lot of clipping/distortion happening during the louder sections, nothing to do with the singing, more the recording technique.
  16. Ron, Tommy, Keith, Thanks for the tips. I do tend to slur words a little and I notice when I do do I also slide off pitch, both at the start and end of words. I'l keep working a post a longer version. Izzle, I'd delighted to hear any tips you can offer to progress faster!
  17. This seems to be a right of passage for male singers, so here's my go. This is straight up, one take in a single pass of guitar and vocal with just a limiter added for volume. It's the first time I've posted something this raw, hopefully it's a reasonable effort. Tips for improvement an general comments are welcome. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10813900/hallelujah.mp3
  18. Thanks Ron. Do you have any tips for keeping good timing, especially when doubling parts? The click track bleeds from my headphones and tapping on my knee can be heard in the recording, especially after compression.
  19. Agreed, I struggled with the chorus a lot. The vocal is a two part harmony, both recorded separately. I sang both parts and played all the instruments, except drums which was a MIDI file I picked up. Thanks for listening.
  20. Haven't recorded anything in a while since moving house. I've just got my old nylon string acoustic with me for now. I'm struggling with the chorus here. The word 'cold' sound all wonky, but I can't seem to correct it. In fact all the the ooos sound a bit odd. Any advice and constructive criticism is very welcome. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10813900/No%20Excuses.m4a
