Live vid of my band
jonathangraham replied to Keith's topic in REVIEW YOUR SINGING - SHARE YOUR SINGING
This was great on many levels Keith. Congrats! why have you kept this from us until now? -
You set fire to Lorraine, what did that poor girl do to you ?? LOL! j/k Good effort Nick but i can't help feeling like you are just talking rather than singing and this is giving you all sorts of support and pitch issues. Now I know that there is a whole SLS debate about, but whether or not the singing needs to be loud is debatable but one thing is for sure is you need to be able to sustain pitch. A hands on teacher might be the best way to get you some foundations for singing then you could take it further yourself.

An Acoustic Sample

It's true that guy alone could put you off. He seems more like a salesman than an artist but the truth is the separate cd's work pretty well, and better than the previous Singing Success programme imo. Much more concise and good explanations for each cd, so you will eventually be able to tailor your practice depending on what you feel you need more of. I myself have done that with 3-4 different programmes to end up creating one set of exercises from warm up all the way to cool down that's tailored for me and what i need. It's unlikely that any programme off the shelf is gonna give you exactly what you need like experience or a good tutor would, but you just have to jump in at one point and I think MM is a good one to start with. When you feel you understand the lessons and what they are doing specifically for your voice you might want to seek out other ideas and just build on it. But hey, you might not even need any more than this to iron out your challenges. :D -

Regarding conflicting internet information I completely understand. It's ridiculous out there, but to be honest nobody's giving the wrong answers, you unfortunately just have to try them to see if they work to allow you understand your voice a bit more. However just going on the style of music in your clips I would say Mastering Mix might be a great programme for you to start with. I think your voice is not hugely dissimilar to the lead singer in Don Broco or even Charlie Simpson. -

Welcome to the forum and congrats of your clip. I enjoyed it (vibrato, phrasing etc) however i think if there was one thing you could potential work on it is maybe tonal placement or possibly bringing some mask into the sound, as the general tone of your voice is a little dull and flat, however this could be just to do with way it was recorded This is just my opinion of course and there are a few successful recording artists with similar voices to you, so if you are happy with the results then run with man. -

Wow, great talent for 14 and from the video it appears you have many of them. Congrats young lady! I felt you were a little too soft on the choruses, as a tonal shift in this section of the song would have been perfect for me, but that's just my personal opinion. :D -
Dio Cover Thread

Great efforts all round so far guys  in particular DJDeth live performance was excellent. Congrats!! Dio's Songs must be some of the most challenging to make sound good so i'm going to spend a few days on something and post next week if i can get it half decent. I might just have to do this one :D -
Beginner tries to sing a tune..

Welcome to the forum and well done for posting. For a start I think you have a nice tone to your voice almost a little like Bjork. Nice! Now singing acappella is really quite tough as you have no reference to base your pitch on, however you did a much better job on the Winehouse track. Try singing along to some sort of backing to help you find pitch a little better. I dont think you are a soprano no. Maybe an alto but i'd have to hear more to really tell. -

"Painkiller" 2013 edition
jonathangraham replied to Olem's topic in REVIEW YOUR SINGING - SHARE YOUR SINGING
This new take you have just done is insane Olem. congrats!! what can you say to thins brutal power. My only criticism is that i'm not sure if i didn't know the song as well would I have any idea what the words are are from your version? I think (not even close to being sure) that it could be to do with how much weight you bring up from chest which in many ways i like more but at times sounds like a bit of a struggle. With Halford it just seems to sit up there with not as much bottom end but a ton of resonance. But it is Halford after all. I too second a request for a Dio track Olem. i think you would sounds awesome on it  -
Rusty Cage - End Section Problem
jonathangraham replied to jonathangraham's topic in REVIEW YOUR SINGING - SHARE YOUR SINGING
Thanks Ron, ill keep running with it and hopefully have a bit more hold on it in a few weeks. Haha you could have a real point here. I think sometimes at home i'm just a little hesitant too really push it and bother the neighbours. I need to take a leaf out of Enander's book i think his hatred has produced some incredible results. -
Rusty Cage - End Section Problem
jonathangraham replied to jonathangraham's topic in REVIEW YOUR SINGING - SHARE YOUR SINGING
**UPDATE** Ok, so after only a week of working through some of the CVT pedagogy today i really felt a lot more strength and connection on the top end. it's still a little shaky in places but i wanted to get you guys take on it too see if you think there is any difference from the original post? Now I know, just like any new technique it's probably gonna take a couple of month before it's gonna really take hold however I am using this "creaking" idea on the short clip below. Do you think it works, to your ears? Thanks for listening. -
Thanks guys for listening and commenting. It really is amazing how many great songs have their best moments in that area of the voice. I guess as you say strengthening from both directions is the only real way to go. The great signers seem to have the ultimate blend of both. I wonder it it just comes naturally for them? I really think you have a point there, I was so busy thinking about a few other aspects I actually completely forgot about the height of my larynx. I will have to give this another try tomorrow with that in mind and see if it opens up a little more for me. Thanks for listening and commenting.

Hello all, akarawd got me inspired with his Bon Jovi cover so i thought i'd have a quick go at one myself. I've noticed with this song in the chorus section there is a bit of a conundrum for me on which coordination to go for. Range wise it seems to sit right in the middle of my break so deciding weather to pull chest or bring the head down and risk losing some depth in the tone. The latter is what I have decided to go for as it just felt better vocal weight wise but what do you think? Should I continue to build head in a chorus like this and go for a blend or work more on bringing a chestier sound to it? Thanks

Jon Bon Jovi - IIWYM
jonathangraham replied to akarawd's topic in REVIEW YOUR SINGING - SHARE YOUR SINGING
Great job! even Bon Jovi can't find this one a breeze. It may have felt weak to you buddy but it definitely didn't sound it to me. You have inspired me to have a go at a Bon Jovi track right now. looking forward to hearing the next one. -
Well done akarawd. Any song by Dio seems to be a masterclass in singing so for you to be able to get rom start to end with this song with so much passion is commendable. My only criticism is that it still sounds a little rough around the edges but from your comments about this being a new voice i'm sure you know that. Just for example when you sing "Home!!!" at the end of the 1st verse 90% of it sound amazing! but how you got into it wasn't as pleasant to the ear. If you can find a way to get there without opening the vowel so much and holding back the air you may get a better result, but then again maybe not. Not sure why more haven't commented tbh? come on Dio fans.
