  1. Singing Contests dominate the hard news as well as the entertainment pages. There are a variety of judging methods in play. Which do you feel is most fair to the contestant? And why?
  2. What an inspiration Angelo is. His notes were true, in-tune and emotional. I am truly impressed. I wonder what he did to retain that much control in such a frail-looking body. Does anybody know?
  3. I noticed that just about all the bands mentioned were all=male groups. What about women rockers? Is the identity of the female rock star too strong to give a replacement a decent opportunity?
  4. Maybe instead of what to DO to keep your voice fresh, a singer should concentrate on what NOT to do? Like: 1) Don't talk and blow the edge off your tone with unsupported chatter 2) Keep the warm-ups short 3) Try not to sing along with records or the radio; that puts you in the position of FOLLOWING, rather than LEADING, with your voice.
  5. Marcus - I think you're right about shorter warm-ups. Except I recommend 5-10 minutes spaced out over 3-5 times. It's like streching a thigh muscle. When you quit and then come back to it you can always stretch farther than if you do it just once for a longer time. Does that make sense?
  6. I'm trying to think of which famous bands might have replaced their estabished lead singer with a new guy/gal who blew away the original. Anybody got any ideas?
  7. This has turned out to be a great way to learn about music that I've never heard before, and was probably not likely to ever hear at all. Keep it up. It's interesting learning who likes what.
  8. Keith - Absolutly ALL of that was funny. The pun is, after all, mightier than the sword...
  9. VIDEOHERE Fabulous. Awesome. And all the other similar praises! And you say she just disappeared? It would be fascinating to find out why. Is she singing at a Holiday Inn riight now? Married to a millioinaire? Sharing a plate of spaghetti with Jimmy Hoffa?
  10. MDEW - Making music is a privelege that we can choose to begin whenever we wish. There's never a "too early " or a "too late;" there's only "when I'm ready." And remember: to Nimrod who performed and recorded almost 50 years after he was your age, you are a young whippersnapper! Everyone has their own timeable. Trust yours.
  11. Daniel. I'm not sure I know. Nimrod Workman was born in 1895 and died in 1994. At the ripe old age of 99. And he performed pretty much up till the end. So maybe not 90 or any other number. Maybe when people stop coming around to hear you. Maybe when you're bored. Some crash and burn early. Some seem to gig for 40 years or more. Think Rolling Stones and Grand Funk Railroad. What are these guys doing right? BTW I couldn't find a video off my favorite Nimrod song, but it's worth looking up: "Oh, Death"
  12. These two students of mine have never had the recognition I think they deserve. Mandy Barnett "Planet of Love" Toni Price "The Richest One"
  13. There's no question that our voices age and atrophy just like the muscles in the rest of our body. How does a singer know when it's time to hang it up?
  14. VIDEOHERE - Thanks for the compliment! This site is so content-rich that I usually assume the topics that interest me must have been posted dozens of times before. So I'm glad you find them interesting.
  15. A band has little control over its membership and change is often necessary. Under what circumstances should a lead singer's replacement copy the former lead's phrasing and tone? And when should a lead inject much of their own style and put their own thumbprint on the band?
