  1. Hey forum users! I'm back with another cover, it's kind of a random one-off cover that nobody really knows but it's a goodie! This one is a little bit closer to my normal style. I'm open to any and all critique/feedback I feel like especially during the verses, my voice doesn't cut like it'd like it to - would that be compression/edge training?
  2. I liked both versions MDEW - if I had to say anything I'd say spend some time with doing some nice dopey lip rolls! I think it would help those higher notes flow out a little bit more rather than squeezing them out. Nice singing though! I enjoyed the tracks and backups!
  3. Well I haven't gotten many (helpful) voice lessons in my singing career, so I'm primarily self-taught, with the occasional youtube video and lots of reading about how the voice works and functions. But English is my native tongue. That "mars" is definitely not a low note for me, I have about another major 6th below that before I'm at the bottom of my range( ). I was definitely slacking on my breath support though and kind of rushed it - there's a lot of chords to remember I had been at it for a few hours and was pretty determined to get a recording done the day, but I still wasn't happy with it so I put it on here instead. But I definitely agree, I could have used more support. Thanks for the feedback everyone, I'll be sure to post the final video! :)
  4. Hey forum users - I really want to post a video to my facebook page of me doing this song. I'm looking to be a full time gigging musician so I'd like all the critique you can give me! I'm currently trying to get some songs recorded so I have SOMETHING to show bars/venues and to post on my facebook music page. I'm having trouble with the word "Fly" (me to the moon) right at the beginning. It's not too high, it's a middle C - but it always seems to be pitchy. I've practiced trying to keep it on pitch, and I can't seem to get it tight. I know there's a couple of other spots that are a little bit messy as well. I'd appreciate any and all feedback! Thanks! The video might be shaky, I'm not really sure why - but it's kind of funny http://youtu.be/OK5HtK5yNmM
  5. You have a nice tone - you should definitely keep singing!! Just stick with it and you'll be surprised how far your voice will come!! You'll soon have a voice that you'll be proud to show everyone - but it will never be if you don't try it!
  6. I really liked the song Amir! As far as making it more "happy", I think you'd have to rework a lot - the tempo, the video, the recording - in order to make it more "happy" But if you wanted to do something easy to make it a little bit happier, I would try playing an E major instead of an E minor in the chorus. If you like that idea, you could also use an E mixolydian scale (E, F#, G#, A, B, C#, D, E) on the background/rhythm tracks and I think it would lose a little bit of that sadness that you were referring to. I love that the bridge chords, the F maj to the E maj. But I like the song as it is! As everyone else said, that girl is gorgeous.
  7. Interesting! I didn't know Hendrix was a soldier, much less a Sgt! I'd agree that the lower notes in the song could use a little work - I'm still working on audiating the notes in my head when I sing to match pitch (which I tend to lose when I play guitar at the same time, I'm much better if I don't have to play). Singing still isn't completely comfortable for me yet, when it becomes more comfortable I'm sure I'll be more relaxed playing the both of them. It's hard to say honestly because vocal classifications are so relative to the quality of the singer's technique - but I definitely wasn't a profundo so I guess that puts me at basso buffo. My range during my chorus days was around Eb2/D2(on a good day) and up to around D4. But it's taken me a while to access my upper range mainly because my chorus teacher had an old school "you don't want ever want to strain, just flip into head voice" teaching style (which I never agreed with). Also I was one of three people that could get to F2, and the only one that could sing an Eb. The chorus needed me for the lower notes, so I didn't get much of a chance to go higher. But it's all part of the process! Patience is a virtue :|
  8. Thanks for your input guys! I know I have to work on the pitch a little bit more. I've been really trying to stretch the palate lately and it still feels a little bit weird to me which definitely affects my singing. They're just growing pains as I see them. Thanks for your kind words! I'll have to post a follow up in the next couple of weeks or so. As for the Jimi singing - I don't really know how he sings in the way that he does haha. I've tried to copy it before, just to do it, and I just ended up sounding like I started singing after a night of drinking. He had quite a unique voice, that's for sure!
  9. Hey all! Well - here goes nothing! Here's my first cover on youtube as well as my first post on the forums. For the life of me, I still have trouble getting through my break. I always sang bass parts in college chorus, so it's been a long road since I started when my higher register was around E3. It's a little rough, and some parts are a little more spoken sung - but I figured any video was better than no video. I cut the video at the end because I forgot the lyrics haha. But I love to learn about the voice and love hearing new input, feel free to critique! http://youtu.be/pLzWfq6p1dM Thanks in advance! -Matt
