  1. He's an indie artist by the name of Toro Y Moi... I've always enjoyed his songs but always have thought he had a rather mediocre and boring voice. I mean it fits his songs but I've always just found it kind of dull and almost like there's nothing to it you know? Here are some of his songs: Good vibes though, for sure. What do you think of his voice / singing and what would would you rate his voice / singing out of ten? Id rate his singing / voice a 6.5-7/10. But the actual songs 7-9/10 in my opinion. Let me know what you think! :)
  2. Hi David, I've only been singing for a few months now but yes... I can deff. hear improvement from previous recordings. It's pretty sad hearing someone say "This isn't good at all". But I agree, it doesn't sound too great. With that being said, I do think there are parts that show potential and also this is a step up from previous recordings in the past. At the moment, I am not that great at all at singing, but I realize where I need to improve and how I'm going to do it! Hard work pays off and so far I think it has been paying off for me because I was 10x shitter months ago than I am now. Thanks for the constructive criticism Dave. And here is my e-mail, ianhorstb@gmail.com Please send me an e-mail, It would be awesome to talk to you. :)
  3. Thanks MDEW, to me some parts seem on pitch and some words or sentences seem off aswell. Do you hear it this way too? Or is it more so EVERYTHING sounds off pitch? Thanks for all the feedback thus far.
  4. thanks guys, I appreciate all the feedback and I will continue to work hard and improve with time! edit: to me it sounds like mostly all of these are sliiiightly off pitch at times. Does anyone else hear it too? Before, my biggest problem was that i couldn't sing on pitch at all..I've gotten better in the pitch aspect but still... Things still sound a bit off pitch to me at times. Is this something that will get better or correct itself over time? Or are there exercises to help correct this little pitch problem? And in your opinion, do all of the recordings sound slightly off pitch all the way through, or is it just when I say certain words? If I could get an answer regarding this question it would seriously mean a lot to me!
  5. I'm on a quest to become a good singer. I've been on this quest for a few months now. To track my progress, I'm going to be posting singing snippets for various indie songs... so me, singing over other peoples songs! This way, I'll be able to look back and see where I need improvement and whether or not I am actually making improvement. But the biggest part and importance of all of this, is that it's fun. I have tonsa fun singing over other peoples songs and working on my craft. What I'm about to post is a huge leap up from any songs I've recording in the past. Hearing songs I recorded months ago and then hearing this is just plain and simply awesome because I can actually hear the improvement... Here are my singing snippets for March, 2013: The last snippet is my personal favorite. :)
  6. Thanks George, but I was giving it everything I got and my mom was in the room next to me sleeping, lol. I thought I was going to get a lot of negative comments so I posted a disclaimer saying that it's not that good. I actually think the recording was decent and I'm noticing a lot of improvement, and that's what counts! thanks for the comment
  7. Hey guys, thanks for the feedback, and I'm not embarrassed by my voice at all. I guess shouldn't have said "it's not very good" multiple times even though I actually think its good. To be honest I'm pretty proud of this recording as well as my most recent ones because it really shows how much I have improved in such a short amount of time. And regarding the airy vocals, I was going for something a bit more airy, but I agree that its too airy sounding at times. And I'm doing Brett Manning's Singing Success at the moment as well as singing to the piano and guitar, and so far I'm really happy with the results. Thanks for the advice though Keith. edit: Next time I post my vocals I'll be more honest in my OP.. (and they will also sound a lot better then because I will have improved! ) I can only get better guys!!
  8. here is a short little clip that I recorded earlier today. Let me know what you think.. I'm not that great of a singer at the moment (I will be one day though), I've only been doing this seriously for a good two months, but the progress I have made thus far has been immense! Here is the link: http://picosong.com/3BST/ As I said before, it's not very good, but it's a hell of a lot better then when I first started, any feedback would be appreciated! (I am the first male singer, not the second female vocalist)
  9. Although I'm not a lazy singer and I do work hard at this craft, this comment really inspired me. Thanks Owen +1 rep :)
  10. lol... I'd continue on with my life practicing singing on a daily basis and improve as the months go by, regardless of whether or not singing in a mixed voice increases range without going into head voice. It's not really a big deal if it doesn't beacuse at the moment im not that great of a singer, I haven't developed my mixed voice yet. Why do you ask though?
  11. I'm not hearing it Keith. And if it sounds low quality, trying listening it in 480p or above. :)
  12. You must have some sort of dislike towards rappers that sing. I disagree with your comment though, sounds to me like he is a rapper who learned how to sing and he actually sounds quite good in result. And just because he's a rapper who sings doesn't mean he's using autotune. You can clearly hear that he isn't using autotune in this song. There's also many videos of him singing live (without autotune) and he sounds great! But back to the whole chest / mix voice thing... You really think he's singing in falsetto in those parts of the song I listed? Sounds pretty thick for falsetto imo. Why don't you think that's his mixed voice?
  13. Heres the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFIDaUSXBHI Comes in at around :30 seconds when he says "the life, I can't let it go" and also "that's right, I wont ever know" It doesn't really sound like head voice / falsetto but it sounds to high to be in his chest voice. So I'm thinking it's in his mixed voice. But if it is his head voice, he has a crazy thick sounding head voice that sounds really good imo. Thoughts? :)
