  1. @Adolph: I have the same answer, it's still in progress . We had a few setbacks and whatnot but a lot of progress has been made. Our whole estimated date was offset by quite a bit and I only finished tracking vocals about two weeks ago. So now the vocals, guitars, bass, and drums are pretty much done. It needs to be mixed and then sent out to you guys But rest assured, it's going to sound awesome; we have put an incredible amount of time and effort into it. (The rough mixes of two songs that are played in that interview on my first post are something to chew on, but the guitars still have to be re-amped, and all the rest of the mixing stuff needs to happen... And chris caffery of Trans-Siberian-Orchestra will probably guest solo on the second track:D)
  2. Thank you gentlemen. @Ronws, three bean salad? Try pork rinds with EZ cheese on 'em. @Xamedhi, There are some performances with a more 'bluesy' feel, and some with higher notes, and some with growlier tonality (though never harsh lead vocals). I think I don't go too high above D5 on the album, but I never sing with an overly 'heady' tonality, so there aren't any particularly 'classic' screaming/woman falsetto sounding parts. ;)
  3. So my band's album is still on the way. I finished vocal tracking just last week, and guitar tracking before that. We played some rough mixes of stuff over the radio for Seattle, which you can check out here: http://media.kisw.com/a/96333388/metal-shop-s-backstage-pass-episode-21-ghost-ship-octavius.htm?q=ghost+ship+octavius Interview starts at 16:54 First song starts at 20:25 Second song starts at 29:30 There's also some clips of other bits after that. I hope you guys enjoy! These are by no means final. The guitars still have to be re-amped, and they're not really mixed to an extensive degree, but we wanted to throw out some stuff so that people were aware of what's been going on. So as far the recording process for the album, I was screaming my head off for quite some time recording all of these songs (about 2 weeks I think), had some of the worst vocal days I've ever had, but just had to power through it and make it work. It was quite draining. Aaron is a great producer and we managed to make everything sound awesome. Everything from the vocal harmonies to the bass and rhythm guitar fills are all very carefully thought out and orchestrated, it's going to sound awesome.
  4. The best advice I can give to people is "don't try to make a weak sound strong!" It never will get there. If you want a really strong sound, you have to start with a strong foundation. ;)
  5. @aravindmadis I think the tonality is pretty close! I wish I had a range like that... But I think you need more strength on the higher notes. It sounds like you are running out of breath, or maybe not confident enough up there. Just make sure you hit those notes like you mean it, with powah ;)
  6. Thanks Bzean. The first verse pretty much just has some compression and reverb. There is, however, 3 layers happening there. One high, one low, and one super low (it goes down to about B0 at the end)
  7. Cover of Soundgarden's 4th of july. Hope you enjoy, and happy 4th to ye! :P
  8. You did well, but here is my critique: Some notes are flat. On phrases like 0:17 you need to make sure you don't lose any power, don't want a 'reaching' kind of sound. also, watch out for the breaks ;)
  9. Wow, Bay you should probably just be more humble when someone finds your covers distasteful. I agree with David about the lack of emotion, but I found the singing very impressive, regardless. It's not about whether or not someone 'thinks they can do better'. That's a pompous thing to propose in the first place. If you post a cover on the review/critique section, maybe you should be prepared to take some critique.
  10. I am FMN fan, and I think you did a great job Only think I would recommend is working on the lows a bit more. I also think the tonality at 2:03 very closely resembles something almost... peter gabiel. I would recommend playing with that sound, too!
  11. You are singing too quietly and aren't really projecting your voice much
  12. Don't worry about it. You have made more progress with mixed voice than I ever could! Stick with it.
  13. Sorry, actually there is no headvoice. There is a bit of falsetto, but it's all orrendo canto. The 'head voice' is the illusion of head voice, there isn't really a thinning out to do in a traditional sense. But it's very very different from head voice, or mix voice. It also cannot achieve that 'piercing' quality. Which is one of the downsides The hibria clip you linked is very good, but definitely not orrendo. There is a distinct difference, you just have to know what you are listening for.
  14. The whole head voice mixed voice thing never quite worked out for me. I tried, really. But orrendo canto is much more natural for me. Unfortunately, it still doesn't provide the high range that I've always wanted, but I try to get closer every day
  15. I invented it! Not really, there are a handful of singers who use it.. but I figured it out myself. But I have pretty much given up teaching people... Because they always want to learn 'head voice' and it's a full 180, so usually it's tough enough to teach people the technique.
  16. I think that's pretty cool Why not learn to use it, instead of avoiding it?
  17. She is very very good. Actually she nailed those songs. The only way in which she could potentially improve is in learning other stylistic approaches. But she would have to find interest in learning other styles of music, which a lot of singers don't. It doesn't matter, she's got the pop vocal style down. 5/5
