  1. Thank you Yeah, I'd so love to have that distortion that Bach has in his voice, but most of the times I sound clean, and I don't have the technique to do it. Some people some have it and some don't I guess, and without a proper vocal coach it's pretty difficult to master I think (without damaging yourself)
  2. On the 18 and life video: like said earlier, I think you should avoid straining the overdriven parts too much. It sounds a bit strained, and I think it would sound better if you would just do it clean. I get what you're trying to do though. Another thing, I think you need to work on you pronounciation/articulation, there are alot of words where you leave out letters or pronounce them weird (examples: 0:28 "worked", 1:28 "kept") Is English your native language? Overall I think you did a good job though I disagree, I like him live
  3. Hey everyone, I recorded a cover of Skid Row's Youth Gone Wild today. Not one of my favorite SR songs but the only one that had a decent instrumental track https://soundcloud.com/pistolhead/youth-gone-wild-cover Any feedback is much appreciated! Cheers
  4. Thank you alot! And yes, you are totally correct. Support and vowel modifications, are 2 of the main problems in my singing at the moment. Good to hear it confirmed Thanks for the feedback!
  5. Yes, you are right about the pre-choruses, I noticed it too while mixing. Well, I just sang it like I always sing my Darkness, I'm just even more amazed at Justin's range if he does this stuff in head voice instead of falsetto Cheers
  6. I recorded this today 'cause I wanted to experiment with Justin's singing style. I also did the harmonies just for fun https://soundcloud.com/pistolhead/i-believe-in-a-thing-calles Any feedback is welcome, especially on the higher parts since they're all (what I consider to be) falsetto, which I rarely use besides the Darkness songs. To me it always sounds kind of weird but I'd like to hear other opinions besides my own Cheers
  7. Thank you so much! I really apreciate the nice words. Honestly though, I didn't use any falsetto in this song, everything is pure head voice. Normally I wouldn't be able (or atleast think) to hit the chorus in only headvoice, but after a few takes, it started to go really well (shows me that even though after warming up with lip rolls etc, it still takes half an hour of real singing to really get into it). The mic I used was a Rode M3 that I bought a few days ago. I was looking for a mic that could handle different things well (vocals, el. guitar cabinets, and ac. guitar), and after a week of looking into different mics I went back to my first choice, and I'm really happy with it. Actually, today I was recording and experimenting with this song again (it's such a big help to have good recording equipment), and improved a whole lot. I figured out the technique of the "wild smiley face" (as Jim Gillette would call it), and it made me sound alot better. I always found myself to sound a bit "mushy", like I had really big cheeks, but this totally made it go away, and gave me more "bite". Again, thank you everyone for the nice words so far. I really didn't expect it, and it's really good for my confidence as a singer. I still appreciate any form of feedback though! Cheers, Nick
  8. Thank you! Really appreciate the feedback! It's always a bit hard to me to hear myself recorded (I feel like I have a bit of a weird voicetone), so a compliment is always welcome haha Still I can't believe there is nothing that has to be improved hehe, anyone else that has some advice for me?
  9. Hello everyone, new here! Been lurking around for a while, and since I finally purchased my own recording equipment I decided to join in and get some much needed feedback I recorded this yesterday to test my new microphone (Rode M3) I've been singing for over a year in a band (we haven't got out of the rehearsal space yet), but only started actual practicing and learning technique 1,5 month ago, and so far I've been enjoying it and it's really helping me. https://soundcloud.com/pistolhead/immigrant-song-cover The cover is far from perfect, but any feedback to help me is welcome! It's always a bit hard to judge yourself 'cause you need to get used to hearing your own recorded voice. What I think myself though, is that I sound a bit too strained on some high parts, and quite nasal, which I need to work on Hope this post wasn't TLDR! Cheers!
