  1. Hi thereThanks for the comments, they are helpful :-) Yes I am aware my timing is a bit rubbish already, I'm just not sure what to do about it! I can generally always feel the beat of the song but I sometimes get a bit confused how to fit the words over the top. I used to play the flute when i was younger and looking at the music you can see where you are supposed to play and how long for and when you are supposed to rest, but I find with the singing I'm listening to the track and then sort of trying to memorize where to sing etc. I'm sure that is not the best way to go about it.. Yes as far as the singing goes I haven't had any training. I've had a handful of lessons, I'll have to google what you have said later! I wasn't trying to sound like Amy, I just like the song so I thought I'd have a go at it. With the recording side of things, I'm a bit of a 'techno-phobe' so yes I haven't really mastered it. All I have bascially managed to do is record my voice using audacity, remove the background noise and whack some reverb on it. I'll turn that down a bit next time but I find it all a bit confusing because when I listen to the track through my headphones with no reverb on it I think it sounds OK and then I listen to the same thing just coming through the ipad and it sounds really harsh and terrible so I decide to put it on after all. I think I may be hiding behind it slightly..
  2. Hiya, Haven't posted on here in a while.. Anyway I had a go at My Immortal by Evanescence. Any thoughts? Also how do you know what sort of songs would sound good with your voice? I've had a go at a few before and decided they sounded terrible, maybe I'm just a bit fussy! I also like to listen to quite a few different genres of music, mainly rock and pop though, but I think I sound a bit silly doing upbeat rock songs, is it a man's domain maybe?
  3. Hiya So I had a go at Leona's footprints, it is a bit higher than I usually like to sing but I like the song so I thought I'd have a go at it anyway... (I'm sure I messed it up but you guys can tell me where :/ ) https://soundcloud.com/orchid13/footprints-leona Also, with this other song I was messing about with the reverb settings, is it too much on here? I don't normally put anything on my voice so it sounds a bit weird to me like this. https://soundcloud.com/orchid13/yesterday-once-more-carpenters-cover Thanks :-)
  4. Hiya I've had a go at singing this song. Soundcloud wouldn't let me post it so I just stuck it on youtube, so it is not a proper video sorry! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DnHoRQihz4 Let me know what you think Thanks!
  5. Hi, I can't give you any advice but I liked it. I listened to Amazing Grace as well:) Have to say I quite liked the crickets in the background, they transported me to a warmer climate..
  6. Ha ha! I liked it. I may do it again with your words instead.. Much more interesting. Maybe I need to have a go at some heavy rock next time for all you guys out there... Not sure my voice is exactly 'rocky' though! Bit too weedy me thinks. Any suggestions?!
  7. https://soundcloud.com/orchid13/crazy-backing-track-without Hi there, is anyone able to tell me where this one is pitchy now please? I think my ears need a bit of training. I can hear it when it is pointed out to me but I can't tell myself beforehand. Think I might leave this song alone now, for some reason I couldn't seem to get the tune in my head! Thanks
  8. Hi So the songs I have to do in church are all quite high (for me anyway!) so I was just trying to sing a bit higher even though it's a bit out of my comfort zone. I am aware some of the endings of my words seem missed off, anything else? Thanks for your comments https://soundcloud.com/orchid13/the-power-of-your-love
  9. So I re-did this a tiny bit higher and dragged the computer into the kitchen, although I think it now sounds like I'm singing in a cave! https://soundcloud.com/orchid13/rainy-days-and-mondays
  10. Hi there Well you are obviously talented and you have a nice voice. I would be quite happy to sit there in the congregation listening to you! I know what you mean about the pefectionist thing though, I find that I never quite think that I am good enough or will be good enough even if I practice. I am a bit behind you with experience though having never done anything musically since I was about 18, but a little voice inside my head is telling me I have to try to sing. This is a big ask for me as I am quite shy and up until a few months ago I could not even sing with my husband in the same house! I am now doing some singing with the band in church as well but I have only done it 3 times before and am still finding it petrifying even though everyone is singing with me, but I do have a mic so I'm quite aware that people can hear. But I'll continue with it and see how I get on. Good luck to you!
  11. Hi Elwin Yes the recording set up is extremely basic, just from my computer which is in a room the size of a shoe box, just enough room for the computer and me! Probably need a laptop or something else so I can take it into a different room. Something for the Christmas list maybe!

  13. Hi, I disagree as well! I think some people, like myself, genuinely have issues with self-confidence. I have got to the ripe old age of 36 and every time I do something that takes me out of my comfort zone, I take a little step out one toe at a time and test the water. This person doesn't have a name, just like me because they are too shy to put one up just yet. With regards to my singing, this is a new venture for me and as your friends will always tell you you sound fab, (except my husband who said I'm rubbish!) this is quite a good place to get an objective view on what you sound like. I am also extremely self critical, so yes I hear my mistakes, but I am probably likely to think they are a whole lot worse than they are, and I'm still finding it a little strange just listening to myself. Nobody wants to be one of those people you see in singing competitions who are full of confidence, and think they are brilliant, when in reality they are awful!! So I say, build this girl's confidence up, she needs it! And Kendroid, the song was great, you have a beautiful voice :)
  14. https://soundcloud.com/orchid13/make-you-feel-my-lovefinal Link amended as I decided my voice was too noisy. Any comments other than the fact I can't keep in time with the music?! Think I need a large drum or something next time as I found the music was putting me off. Clearly need some practice.
  15. Hello Had another go at a song, still can't figure out how to put music behind it. Gave up with it in the end and turned it off as I couldn't hear it anyway. If you make it to the end I hope you enjoy my son's little input. His tongue was hurting apparently :-) https://soundcloud.com/orchid13/audio-recording-on-thursday-2 Please let me know what you think Thanks
  16. Hi there, complete novice here! So I have never sung in front of anyone or had any singing lessons or anything but thought I might like to now. Could you please tell me if I can sing first, and please be honest before I look silly in front of real people :-) I just did a little test and recorded myself singing a bit on my phone and I wasn't listening to the music so it is probably completely out of tune etc etc so sorry about that! I did have a go singing something with a karaoke track on youtube but it was a complete mess because I couldn't really hear the music above my singing so it was out of time and also the words flashing up on the screen were putting me off!. So I deleted that in the end. Quality is not great either as I don't have a microphone but I think you can at least hear my voice. https://soundcloud.com/orchid13/video-2013-02-06-14-18-26 Thanks
