  1. It's indeed a delicate issue if we really want to get anal about it. I know a lot of people that started the way you mentioned. And I'm ok with it. But monetized videos are one of the many ways that someone makes a profit. To put it simply, if one is determined to shut you down they'll find a legal way to do it. The line can be drawn anywhere we see fit.
  2. I say who cares? You can always make tons of accounts and they will probably just delete your video if they don't want it. You only help the band when making covers so yeah, screw them. Actually it's the same case with soundcloud...it's even worse there cause they got automatic copyright detection so any of these songs is instantly taken down. Not that it can't be bypassed too. :P
  3. If you want to make a distinction between chest/head voice it would probably be a light head voice I guess. At least on these high notes. It's all just different degrees of cord closure to be honest, different intensity. Based on the timbre I think it's neutral without air in CVT terms.
  4. You sound very close to what Plant did, your voice is also quite similar to his...what people would call "standard tenor" I guess. You got my seal of approval. I've heard other Led Zep covers of yours before and you can really nail this thing man.
  5. They're both really nice. They got a cool old-school vibe to them. The first one could be definitely used as soundtrack for a christmas movie. Like "Home Alone". :D
  6. Yes I can hear the problem you're mentioning. But an inability to stay in pitch is often not a result of lack of relative pitch, which you probably got as MDEW said, but a result of poor singing technique. I bet that as you get better and better this will be automatically resolved.
  7. @FelipeCarvalho: Cool advice Felipe. I'll keep these in mind! What I meant by tongue compression is when the tip of the tongue moves a bit backwards and touches the bottom of the mouth. I am thinking that if I train a bit with this and get used to the bigger, more open feeling it gives then perhaps I won't have to use it as much anymore. @ronws: Thanks Ron. It still requires quite a bit of conscious effort to get everything right but I can tell there is a difference.
  8. Thanks MDEW. I have the bad habit of comparing myself to other singers to check my progress. I actually took Felipe's advice and watched out for any splatiness. I was looking for a bit darker tone, something along the lines of slightly operatic/rock hybrid. I think that was part of the reason it didn't sound right in my mind. So I tried singing most high parts again and reuploaded it, same link. Also removed that random belt towards the end which was clearly out of place.
  9. Thanks Ron! Yeah Myles is a bit lighter indeed. But see that's one of the problems I've been having...I'm not always sure which things I should just accept and move on and which are the things that just need more work. So for now I'm just pushing my boundaries to see how far they can go. Yup you got me! hehe I can usually deal better with the scooping these days but masking the registration is pretty hard. Especially the quackiness thing. These nasty frequencies still creep into my voice now and then. Speaking of them I found out a few days ago about the compressed tongue instead of the usual flat tongue. I find that it does make the tone quite a bit rounder. I wonder why it's not recommended more often. :| I'll also try the tips about the lower parts. I bet part of what seemed "wrong" is that I don't accept my voice yet and I probably should. Cheers!
  10. Nice song first of all! And nice singing! It sounds like you're on the right track.
  11. Hehe cool song choice! I don't think it's too quacky in general. To be honest in some parts It could get EVEN quackier and it would be cool. Like going full Judas Priest on those high notes. It's just that at some parts it sounds like you're letting go a bit early. Like you could stretch it a bit more before entering a lighter coordination. And I'm not sure if Labrie heavily belts these notes. I think you probably took the correct approach in holding back slightly. :)
  12. Thanks. I'm still working on my head voice but I feel I've improved quite a bit. You're right. I listened to the studio version now and he does close them more. I was listening to the live acoustic version before and I think that's where he was opening them more. Actually, that's also one of the reasons why I was wondering if he was in curbing or if he was just going against the more natural overdrive vowels. But I tried a lighter approach and it seemed like something was missing. So I just belted it.. Thanks!
  13. Hey guys! I made this cover and I need some advice! I actually kinda hate my voice right now but I'm not sure why... Still, I'm probably not objective enough so I'll leave the comments to you. lol Also Myles Kennedy is one of my favourite singers and I'm trying to understand his style. So if you got any pointers they are welcome too. I think he doesn't really use curbing on the high parts right?
  14. Totally agree, I prefer it like this too. It's a badass cover. The most interesting thing to me is that people only noticed it in this cover when it's everywhere. The only occassion imo where it would be advised to avoid modifying would be when the modified word resembles too much another non-modified one.
