  1. Thanks for your answer Owen! I did practice to sing with as light glottal attack as possible! What I realized is that I need to focus on light glottal attack and twang. What I did wrong before i think was just something i call "constricted glottal attack. I just forced the voice, but as i make it lighter it feels easier to twang ans transist from chest to head, therefore i believe that there is where i develop my mix voice innit? What i found it easier as well is to sing first in headvoice and do downward scales, so i can transist into chest voice. Heres a clip of me singing, where im trying to find mix voice! Do i do a good job? Cheers
  2. Yes, neither is there any point to do support exercises if they dont respond to you. Focus breathing in air, activate your support muscles, and sing a line of the song. Teach yourself singing, not just support. Finding support is not that hard. Put your hands on your waist, above your hip and below your lower ribs, where its fleshy part, and cough! You will feel the muscles jump! Try to activate those muscles without coughing! That is your support! What you gotta do, inhale, activate those muscles and start singing! Dont force activate them, just gently... This was the best way for me to understand support.. Try it.
  3. Regarding support, i find it easier to find support thru imagination and let it happen naturally. What i actually thnk is that many times we need to make sure that we actually BREATHE! Sing a song and each time u need to take in air, do u actually inhale? I use to sometimes forget to inhale, what i use to do was just opening my mouth and didnt inhale any air and let my abdominal muscles relax. I would inhale but that is what the chest raises up and its incorrect inhalation. Fine singing is when correct breathing and support together with twang is balanced together. Your support might be fully correct, but if you don't use the twanger properly, you will end up using so much support and it just wont get any better. Twang is like cord closure. So support and twang together will make singing easier. Happy new year
  4. What you can also do is to send a clip of your singing and where you want it improved. To sing like Bruce Dickinson you will learn singing like that safely with a vocal coach. I also tries to learn things myself, and we are sort of teaching ourselves singing becoz we need to listen to our bodies, so a singing teacher is sometimes more of a guidance. They go the knowledge to guide you the right way. While you lower the larynx, you NEED to remember to keep hold of your twanger. While you lower the larynx, you might wanna keep the vocal cords "forward". For some people, keeping the sound focused into your head cavities might also be a tool. Remember these are only sensations. You cant move the vocal cords forward anywhere. But your mind plays a big part on what it responds to when learning new muscle coordinations related to singing = vocal techniques. Good luck and keep us updated.
  5. How can i learn to sing in my chest voice without ending up breathy or tight? I probbaly asked this before but cant remember it.Any advice or exercises please? Thanks guys x
  6. So i need to do more Ah as in kiiiiind? Instead of Uh as in father? In order to achieve the chestiness? Do i have good twanging in my voice btw?
  7. Hi all! I have been practising a lot on breathing and support.. I sort of can control it now.. But i need to keep my hands on my waist just to make sure i keep doing it. Can you guys listen to a clip of me singing and maybe tell if you think I am using my breathing and support properly? I am aware that I sing a lot in head voice, coz I am very strong in that part, but I do try to sing in chest voice on lower pitches, dunno if I'm succesful in that yet tho. Cheers :)
  8. VIDEOHERE, Ronws, and other people... I have practised my breath and support thing today.. What I find is that If I get both things right, it's quiet coordinative.. When I'd relax the ab muscles, I'd have a better chance achieving to activate the correct support muscles (in my case i like to control mostly with the waist muscles).. Basically about the breathing, i just feel i overdo it so what i do is just relaxing the ab muscles when inhaling air, and activate my waist muscles when producing sound.. Does that make sense of correct breathing and support? Oh when activating the support musc.. I have to be careful that i dont tense them, but more sort of let them act like "jelly" Thanks for sharing guys
  9. So i started to go to a singing teacher and learned all the basics for singing according to her way of teaching.. I was told I have poor breathing and thats why I cant support properly. Thats sort of fair enough. So I learned how to do more low breaths. What i do is as i inhale i also relax ALL my stomach muscles.. and When I tried to sing I could feel a huge difference in my voice straight away. I feel I can sing more with a rounder timbre in chest voice, and also sort of transist into headvoice. (But need to do it carefully so I dont break). Now about the support. I got exercises for that too, but what I find with them is that I sort of work too hard.. I do understand which muscles to use now, but i forget to breathe properly when I focus on support!!! Lol However.. When I focus on breathing, I feel my support muscles activates automatically? I can feel a gentle pull with the correct muscles when I focus on the breathing more than the support. And my support muscles activates more or less depending on what pitch of volume i sing.. Obviously im going to learn more singing.. But just to ask you, is it common or lets say.. Possible that i get the support work right when i get the breathing right? Is just that I want to hear your opinion out there too.. Coz apparently correct support comes along with correct breathing? Hope for nice feedback :)
  10. Phil, i havent checked your videos yet! Gonna do this weekend! My sound would be closer to breathy if i avoid to strain I never sing false btw. Im pretty much always on pitch.
  11. Oh yes thank you guys. But i feel my voice sounds too "heady" and i wan more thickness in my voice. In other words, it sounds more classical rather than R&b, which i want. I been told by one of my friends to learn curbing, which i tried before, and on another forum ive been told that i sing neutral quiet good. Becoz im familiar with cvt. But here in UK they dont know CVT. Or anyone who knows, how can i learn to transfer from neutral to curbing?
  12. This is how I sing now: https://soundcloud.com/msquietstorm/5-september-2013-17-20-31 What do I need to tell my teacher once I start to go to him, if I wanna learn to sing like this? Listen also the chorus lol. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QzCBLVnTAdI My teacher will teach me the Estill method. Hope you guyz can help me :)
  13. And Phil Moufarrege, you do make sense.. Shall i not just twang even more?
  14. Oh sorry! Hres the link I did improve my voice with speech level singing.. But i sort of explored my singing with help from cvt when i sing songs. When i mean to get lighter i want to sort of be lighter in my chest so i can bring that sensation up to higher pitches without tensing becoz i either tense or flip to like an airy off balance mode. I sort of get it right from time to time but if u can listen to my clips maybe u can share advice on what would boost my progress? Right now i feel my chest is too heavy, and i know if i lighten it up i can bring it up the effiecient chest to the notes of head voice. You see? Cheerio
  15. Hi all! Im new here but im also not new coz i been visiting this webite before! I have slowly improved my singing over the years. Since lessons are quiet expensive at times, i managed to take a few and also learn things by myself. I post here a link of my singing! I sing short clips here. I sort of know the sensation of how to sing efficiently, but i wonder how to sing sort of lighter? I feel my voice is atm a bit too "heavy". I do focus on support and twang, as i know they are like the fuel and oil for the car to roll. I like to sing soulful tunes, one voice i love is J Moss.. I means its a male voice but this is the type of voice i strive for Please help me! Singing is really like freedom to me! Thanks!!!
