  1. Such a trippy video, mate! I really enjoyed watching it and hearing you perform. Since I am just a noob, I really cannot say anything about the voice other than I really liked it. Your vocal expression is top-notch for me. A little bit too much reverb and echo for my taste, but then again, I don't know the original song, so maybe that's the style of it. But well, that's something very subjective anyway. Very well done, man!
  2. Hey, guys! I want to share with you another cover I did a couple weeks ago. There are many things in it that I don't like now that I hear it again and that I think I have improved since I recorded this. One of those things is being out of tune in some places and not keeping proper timing. Anyway, I wanted to share it with you as it is. Remember that I am just a beginner and have still a huge road ahead of me. Any word of encouragement will be highly appreciated. Thanks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtMHRoaVAfc
  3. Thank you all for your recommendations. I uploaded another mix to YouTube. If it's not much to ask, would you be so kind to listen to it again and tell me that you think about this new mix? I inserted it into the first post. Thank you once again.
  4. Thanks for your recommendations, geno. I'll be sure to try them to get a better mix. Staying in key has always been one of my main problems I can get most notes right, but I always screw up somewhere. I sure need some ear training.
  5. Hey, man! Don't worry, it's very natural for us not to like our voices when we hear it recorded, especially if we are not accustomed to do it. It's sometimes like a feeling of disgust or something. That feeling subsides the more you hear your recorded voice. You have a very good and sweet voice. I really like it. I wish I could sing well while playing guitar, man. You have a very good hands-voice coordination. As for breath, what works for me is to sing somewhat louder. Not much louder, not even very noticeable louder, but at least not breathy. Breathy is ok if you know how to control it. You seem to expel all your air when finishing a verse (in the words 'night', 'life', etc). If you sing a little bit louder, you can keep more air inside you. I'm not an expert, so I don't know if this works for everyone, but at least it works for me. When you know how to control your breath, then you can return to apply your breathy voice without running out of breath. Your pitch is also very good. Playing an instrument helps a lot with that. To me, another beginner, you really don't sound like a beginner, believe me. You have great talent. Congratulations!
  6. Oh, I think I misunderstood your last statement haha. ¬¬ (Sorry, English is not my first language) There is no James in this track, just Karl. It may be because of the effects I used on Audition or my backing vocals which are not precisely good enough. I don't know how to mix well, either :(
  7. Thanks a lot for your feedack, Keith. Yeah, that's what I've been working on this week. Backing off, I mean, trying to hit those high notes more gently in mixed voice. I've been practicing my mixed voice over songs like Solitary Shell, Strange Déjà Vu or About to Crash. It's just that I accustomed myself to sing with that distorted or gritty voice, so it really seems like I'm straining myself a little bit on my high register because it takes a lot of effort to add distortion to my pathetic head voice, so I automatically turn to belting. Practicing over those songs that don't require distortion has been helping me to develop a decent clean voice. I also lack a lot of control in the pitch of my high register. As for the track, I bought it from Jammit. You can find there many Dream Theater tracks to work with. The tracks are a little bit pricey, but they help a lot with practice. Again, thanks a lot!
  8. Incredible, man. I really enjoyed the vocal doubling This kid is amazingly talented.
  9. Gotta love that control over your head voice, man. I really suck at it I'll be listening to your other songs in your SoundClick account!
  10. I did like it, girl! You're incredibly talented! And... that's all I can say for now. I just checked your web-page and... well, you left me speechless
  11. Such a great cover, man! I hope I could have that control over my mixed voice. You sound very cool! I am no expert, so I cannot give any proper advice. I just think that you have to be somewhat more attentive to pitch. You have the technique, so correcting your pitch should be an easy job. Do you play a musical instrument? Other than your vocal cords, naturally That can help a lot with pitch. Even if you're no expert in any instrument, having a guitar, a piano or even a bass at hand can be a huge aid. I also listened to your Painkiller cover (and subscribed to your YouTube channel in the meantime), and it blew me away, man. That head voice of yours is killer!
  12. Hi, everyone! This is the first recording I share with you. I'm a full-fledged newbie. I've just been studying proper vocal technique for about a month and a half, but I've been singing for fun for almost two years. I think that, considering that I am just recently learning properly, my voice is... decent. I still have a long way to go, I know. I still cannot control belting the high notes, especially that A4 that has eluded me for years and that B4 (in "telling her secrets won't TAKE them away) that... well, is beyond me right now I am a baritone, so I have a hard time switching to the so-called 'mixed voice'. I am working hardly on that. Please tell me any areas of technique and expression (and production and mixing) that you think I can improve and how I can improve them. Any word of encouragement is highly appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance, guys. EDIT: Since everyone told me that my vocals were buried deep under the mix, I mixed the recording once again. Here is the new link for the cover: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJsAUZTEgFo
