Felipe, I am a huge Angra fan and love all 3 of the band. Anything Andre Matos sings is usually in the high range and sounds really difficult.
With that being said, this was an amazing cover of a really tough song. You did an outstanding job.

Points to Jeremy for trying to lighten the mood

Awesome dude!
-
Great job, dude! Sounded great.

Oh!! Totally my bad! I had Edu's voice in my head, but mixed the names haha
This is the short version of the song, isn't it? Get the long one if you can, the one with the "woo, hooo! minutes go round and round inside my heead! " . That to me is the coolest part of the song, lol
Can you do higher notes? If you siren down>up, can you get into your headvoice smoothly? And top down?Yes, this is the acoustic version, which is shortened. I agree, the "minutes go round and round" part is cool!
Yes, I can! Although the adduction is not very good. There are some samples on my soundcloud account... the ones that sound more full are the belted ones:
All "heady" placements, although not as connected as they need to be:
Belt vs Head
The Passagio Sirens are all belty:
These are all belty head tones:

I actually left a bunch of feedback in the vocal progress thread. But I am honest bro you have the making of a great rock singer! I really hear moment of greatness developing keep up the work and you will be screaming like a banshee.
Thanks for the feedback and kind words... I am practicing, always trying to get better.

Hey!! I liked it a lot. Your timbre is pretty similar to André.
I suggest try to play around adding a bit more twang. More "half smile" haha, that will probably give you an easier time navigating the upper part of your chest voice. As for the pitchyness, yeah, it was very pitchy. But if you are working on it, then I will not say anything about it Make sure you listen closely and remember what he is doing and also the MUSIC . Train to remember where in your voice it is too. This way when you sing acapella you already know in your ear what music it is, so you have a note to sing over, and by remembering the exact note you need to do physically, you don't look around and search for the note you want. ( I don't know if this is what's happening to you, though, it could only be your ear, or viceversa. You could know the music perfectly in your mind and your throat not responding as you'd like... so check that )
Other than that... cheers mate! Keep singing Angra, it suits your voice I think
Definitely, this is something I've had issues with from the start with regards to the pitchyness. I need to train a cue with a phonation.
Thanks for the compliment regarding my timbre (although Rebirth is an Edu Falaschi song ). Andre Matos is one of my major influences.
I do try to hear the music as I sing, but yeah, my throat isn't cooperating.
Thanks for the feedback!

Jabroni, I listened to a great deal of your SoundCloud samples and you remind me of myself when I started singing, I never went for the "Pussy" singers lol. Just kidding I was always, always reaching to sing like Tate, Dickinson, Kiske, Midnight etc even when I had poor connection and strength I always wanted to emulate those styles. Listening to you sing these songs you really gotta get the fold closure happening and lower the back of the tongue, of course I can see you are working with fantastic exercises to get this happening. I don't have any bad critiques you are passionate and putting the time in it takes as the many samples would suggest to me. I guess if anything I would just say to stay positive and DO the work, you have the heart and the right method to sing these kinds of songs. I noticed you had a clip of Queensryche Take hold of the Flame or as I like to call it THE HOLY GRAIL!!!! that song has such allure for singers haha. I will post a version of that song up as soon as I can locate my old disc with it on. That song has got to be one of the single hardest songs to do justice to that I can think of and I am sure I spent YEARS working on my voice to get even close to getting in the neighborhood. Everything Robert teaches will be needed for that mofo strong closure, support, dampening, belting and ENDURANCE that's a rough 5 min haha
Absolutely, I aspire to sing this song properly one day. Geoff Tate is what got me into singing. Unreal voice.

1. track.. is this suppose to be a M&R onsets? Not bad... work on that isolated quack compression Jabroni.
2. Good "Acoustic Mode Onsets"!... Im impressed to see that you are working these... stay with it! Leverage the tongue, work on isolated quack compression and don't forget to work your belt onsets! You need the adductor strength in here bud...
3. Yeahs & yahs - remove the vibrato from your onsets here.. they are getting in your way and weakening your musculature ... for the moment, steady the voice , no vibrato... focus on compression and voice dampening.
4. Bleeding Heart... pretty.. nice sounding voice.
5. Jabroni, you need to work on your belting onsets... are you? You need more adductor strength... start training D&R and A&R onsets...
Rob, thanks for taking the time to respond and listen to the sound clips. Earlier in my training, I was practicing D & R onsets and doing the "Elmer Fudd freestyle." Here are a couple on onsets I did last night with belting, definitely more mass and adduction here.

Hi all,
Decided to do a classic Angra song, acapella. Any constructive feedback is welcome. I kept it light mostly, but there are some covered belts as well. Definitely pitchy, but I'm working on it.
-
Hi Jabroni, I'm really not qualified to make any kind of constructive comment on your vocals but I can wish you good luck on your singing journey!
What are your long term singing goals?
Honestly, to be able to sound full and connected in the light mass configuration. When doing onsets it sounds OK, when singing it falls through. In the belty configuration, I can get a full, voluminous sound, kind of a quasi-operatic tone. But it doesn't provide me with as much flexibility as then light configuration.
I'd like to get good enough to eventually perform in a band or even in karaoke.

Hey guys,
Figured I'd start with my own thread like Anthony to show what I've been up to regarding training.
Here are some sound samples from today: simple onsets and a couple of songs. One is Bleeding Heart and the other is Carry On, both by Angra. I recorded everything with my phone and nothing was a formal sit-down practice... I was just doing this throughout the day and in the car (limited practice time).
In the Carry On sample, I definitely need more fold closure... not enough edging / front placed vowels. There is a lot of falsetto there. The Bleeding Heart sample is mostly chest voice, very relaxed and light, with a couple of belts here and there.
Any input / feedback would be welcome!
Rock on!

Great job, Anthony! Soft and "cool" timbre.

Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash.

1. Does Johnny Cash count as Country?
2. How about Marty Robbins? El Paso?
-
Thanks for the feedback Sexy Beast. I noticed after practicing a bit more in the car that I can definitely sing this with lighter mass. This rendition was too heavy giving it the shouting quality you described. I think it can still be medium mass and belty, but not sound like shouting. Thanks again!
Could you record that and post it?
I plan to do another take will a little less mass in a few days. I'll be sure to post it in this thread when I get a chance.

Hey Jabroni, this is what I hear:
You don't know how to sing in your mid/upper range. Basically you're just yelling and that's why you sing flat most of the time. You're in tune in your lower range so you don't have any pitch problems per se. Work on registration/bridging, whatever you wanna call it...

I gave 1 vote to each except country. I was thinking if we go with pop, the song Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush would be a great head voice test for all.
Maybe a Journey or Steve Perry song would be cool too.
For Gospel, the only songs I know are "Michael row the boat ashore" and "Movin on up" from the Jeffersons theme. Those could be cool as well.
-
Killer, thanks for the feedback again. I will definitely work on my pitch.
-
If I can ask, how are you monitoring while recording the vocal track? Through the software or with a zero latency interface?
I have my headphones plugged into the audio interface and there is a knob: on one end there's "input" and another there's "feedback". For this song I had it mostly turned to Input.
-
Ok thanks guys! Yes, I am definitely out of pitch, that should be my main focus. I am kind of up and down like Killer said. Need to train my ears better.
-
Killer, thanks for taking the time to give feedback. As far as the blasting chest comment goes, I was looking for a belty style like Bruce for this song. I went with a more late bridging medium mass approach. I didn't feel any strain and it was resonant so I went with it.
What do you mean by too sustained? And "it will have to be closer" ?
-
Cover song of Iron Maiden, I think this one is pretty good, a bit flat in some spots... but overall a decent effort: https://soundcloud.com/jabroni-1/the-evil-that-men-do

Nice take, GSoul! It sounds like you used a lighter registration, very cool. It has a nice groove to it.
