  1. Its good , but has less richness or genuineness/ hard to place quality , than the twilightning vocalist . I see you mention Jens, man his solos are just outstanding , i think he steamrolls Rudess , though with stratovarius he doesnt get to exhibit his prog elements that much
  2. Hey guys just thought id post this for the sheer awe it gives me , the whole song is great but a particular section of chorus and sustained note, around 4:30 .... just epic when you think he would be out of breathe he bends down from the sustained note into another section If any of you are familiar with the band Stratovarius , with amazing singer Timo Kotipelto ; this album was mixxed by their guitarist, Timo Tolkki
  3. i love your control man, the vibrato is good , im still trying to work on that - your gritty notes rock too ! The high notes remind me of Tony Kakko a little ! ROCKIN !!
  4. Thanks Herman ! Arcturus made me smile lol . i think while i am developing my voice (or trying to!) i will stick with this mellower doomy style . I enjoy the music of Katatonia , their singer isnt outstanding but has good atmosphere , hopefully i will obtain something similar !
  5. The mix sounds fine dude , if youre enjoying that , stick at it - it will help train your ear. You could try and be tighter with the timing , fit into the groove of the song. If you cant get the notes perfect dont worry , get your groove first , then work on the notes ! Dont give up !
  6. So ! This just arrived from amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/ULTRABREATHE-breathing-exerciser-adjustable-resistance/dp/B007CI0ZBC/ref=pd_cp_sg_0/276-9125964-5152563 I am planning on doing a few weekly runs in the forest , to help strengthen my lungs and air control. If you look at the reviews they are all really positive ; I just tried a short run with it , and it really does provide good resistance. You can modify the inhale and exhale resistance independantly . I suspected a gimmick device at first , but it appears its worth trying ! I will keep you updated with progress , anyone else tried them ? They seem to be a cheap alternative to an "altitude training mask"
  7. Hey dude i really like your songwriting and guitar sound - the dual vocal lines were good too - I play in similar style and just started singing a few weeks , so i know how you feel ! Keep the faith , we will get there !!
  8. Hey guys thanks for the info - i am leaning towards the fatigue explanation ; although it doesnt feel fatigued , maybe i shouldve been more specific , it is deeper in a good way and i can feel it vibrate in my chest a bit more - im not complaining ! Its a hell of a lot better than my voice 2 weeks ago ! Back to singing some scales tonight ! Hopefully i dont endup communicating with whales and other subsonic creatures , although thats more Adoneys territory ;)
  9. Anyone else getting this ? I am a total beginner to singing , although longterm instrumentalist . Im warming upto some scales on keyboard before i do my takes , then having a good blast at it . The next day my voice is notably lower , or atleast has a much more consistent bass element . I have only been singing for 2 weeks and a friend , and my father also noticed the deeper bass sound , and i havent even told them id been singing. Is this normal , and does anyone else have this effect ? I am guessing im just broadening my voice on whole , with these scale exercises and trying to project more ....
  10. Hey Adon -- DUDE !! off topic here, but your youtube channel video with the ibanez jem and keyboard ROCKS ! we have a very similar style ! hopefully we both become great vocalists too . check my channel for more metal/classical crossovers :D
  11. Im feelin it man , harmonising with all the concepts of addiction and loss , get it out of you via voice and music is the only way - im not that good a singer or id literally harmonise with you ! lol KEEP THE FAITH BRAH , STRENGTH AND HONOUR
  12. you may be recording in mono on your interface , sometimes they have 1 stereo input split into 2 mono channels L and R :)
  13. Hi guys , i posted my first song here as a new singer , for advice and suggestions, but was told it is too low in volume , so here is another try lol I still cant get a good loud voice sound .... Parts of it were really low for me to sing, so i added a whisper vocal over the low notes , to thicken it and indirectly add atmosphere Any advice would be great Lyrics are below video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mqg0LMtG9Rw
  14. damn - you cant hear ANY singing ? I know its low and kinda dirgey , but i can hear it on big speakers and also my tv ... The chorus should be clear enough ... OK anyone else please have a listen to that first one Here is my second song , maybe this will be better - any suggestions are welcome !! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mqg0LMtG9Rw
  15. nice vibrato / wobble - im still trying to develop that ! You sound good ! :)
  16. Nice groove on your guitar dude ..... Im a singng noob so i cant offer much advice , but i have recording experience. on my speakers your vocals were panned 100% left. Keep them centred , use a compresser to keep consistent volume and sit them well in the mix. Reverb works wonders too for noobs like me lol
  17. Hi guys Title says it all - I am new to singing and posted my first song in the "critique" section - hopefully youre not too critical lol ! How do i get that louder open singing sound , as opposed to just spoken word level ? I find that i am half singing half speaking ... I am thinking it is a combination of learning technique and getting past the apprehension of opening up... I can write good songs but have never been able to put vocals to them . I recently discovered a finnish singer Ari Koivunen , who has a HUGE voice - Id really be able to project my voice like him ! In the video they just seem to have infinite air flow , and sing so loud without shouting ... The second video is when he was a kid on finish pop idol , but he still has that huge projection ... Any advice would be great !
  18. Hi guys Ive just joined , and looking forward to hanging out with you all , and hopefully developing my singing voice ! Ive been playing guitar for 15 years , keyboards for 1 year , but never considered myself a singer . Recently i met an old school friend who can sing really well , and its gave me the incentive to try it . Im quite unsure about my voice , so ive been writing gentle tunes to start off lol - Id love to progress and be able to project a loud voice for rock and metal . I really like Timo Kotipelto , Dio , Axl Rose , Tony Kakko , Ari Koivunen , Bruce Dickinson. Its a bit of a pain as i can write the material , but cant do the vocals :/ So for now heres my first attempt , lyrics below the video ... Any suggestions would be great !
