  1. He breaks left, he breaks right, he scores!! Another slam dunk. Never even heard this song before, but now I have one more Bowie song I like. Bzean gets most of the credit for suggesting something along the lines of this. We just voted
  2. I'm now remembering that, some months ago, we were working on voting for a song for one of our new genre challenges. One song seemed to get a lot of suggestions, but because of the selection process, it did not get chosen. Things must be kept uniform and fair, but the most important thing that goes on here is that we choose the challenge songs that everybody wants to sing. With that being said, who would still be up for an I Can't Make You Love me Challenge?
  3. I think that might be a nice idea, because some people are so pressed for time that they end up not even trying to do something, if they feel they're going to run out of time. I'd like for it to get to the point in here where people start posting things as they're working through them, rather than not putting anything up until it's a finished product. This will give me the chance to switch my style up again. I mean, it's Prince, so I wouldn't call it an easy song to sing, but it's also a soul song, which is right up my alley. I like to push myself as much as I can.
  4. Gonna work on it. Really smooth it out. I want to have that done in about a month. I think I can pull it off.
  5. Nice one, MDEW. I almost forgot how you sound. You get this folklike quality pretty easily. Enjoyed that one, Ron. First time I ever heard that entire song. I think you pretty much decided it for me, Killer. Time for me to pick back up that guitar. Not bad at all. I know how limited time can be so feel free to take your time with it. And that actually brings me to the next thing. How about we let this one go to the end of 2016? It would give everybody the opportunity to do multiple tributes and take their time. Of course, we'll still be doing new challenges while this goes on. We'll get some variety in this sub-forum. And hopefully we don't lose anybody else this year.
  6. What?! I remember I just saw you start posting like a year ago and now this is what you've pulled off! I like how this sounds too. Congratulations!
  7. Did a first short take of the song by doing the first verse and chorus. I'll be doing this challenge gradually by working on things and posting them over time =)
  8. Already been thinking about what I'm going to do. Probably going to be this song by Prince. SO much soul!
  9. As we just about come up on the halfway point of 2016, we've unfortunately lost several big names in music. Prince, David Bowie, and Maurice White of Earth, Wind and Fire, just to name a few. This is a challenge where we will challenge ourselves by selecting a song from the catalog of one of these great artists and attempting to sing it ourselves. The only requirement for this challenge is that the song must be by somebody who passed away in 2016. As far as time limits for this one goes, I was thinking about 45 days but suggestions are welcome.
  10. Opened a topic to discuss the next challenge. The consensus seemed to be most wanted either the Nationals Challenge (Songs about your country or places within your country) or the Late Legends Challenge (Tribute challenge to some of the late greats we lost in 2016, ex. Prince, David Bowie and others, by choosing a song from on of these artists catalogs) Let's vote for 3 days and get going!
  11. Also, one more thing came to mind. Killer had a great idea by making an imitations thread a few months back. That would make a pretty great challenge. An Imitations Challenge, where we choose a song by an artist and try to imitate their technique!
  12. Yeah, so many choices there. Would allow us to hear some interesting stuff. Like a Late Legends 2016 challenge? I like that.
  13. At this point, we've done several genre-based challenges, where we voted on a genre, then voted on a song from that genre. We've also started doing non-genre-based themed challenges, like the Lover's Challenge from December, wherein any song involving love could be selected, and the more recent Artist challenge, where we voted on an artist and selected any song in that artist's catalog. Where does everybody want to go next? I've been thinking for a while about doing a National Challenge, where we choose songs about our country or places within our country. I think I introduced that idea back in November, and with Memorial Day coming up in the states, I was reminded.
  14. I haven't given up on anything. Just got overrun with stuff. Full-time Grad School is no joke, LOL. That's ending now though. Yeah, it's the time. We'll have to find a way to fix that. Maybe longer deadlines.
  15. LOL. It's like that sometimes. Doesn't sound bad to me, you know, just a little pitchy here and there. Still a nice recording. And the fact that this wasn't easy means you really challenged yourself, which is the point here. I still want to throw one up, myself. Any suggestions?
  16. Well, this one didn't go as expected, LOL. I know I got completely overrun with schoolwork. Not sure about anyone else. This challenge won in voting. Is there anybody else still interested in doing this? If so, we can restart it. Otherwise, we should take a look at a new challenge.
  17. Please read the pinned threads at the top of the forum. There is a certain way that things must go here. Everyone is always welcome to propose a new challenge, but something like that would go in the thread that is titled "Discussion of the Addition of New Challenges". We cannot come in and start challenges all willy nilly
  18. Saw this one had no replies yet, so I took a listen. It's pretty cool. Subtle vibrato. Builds up to a little intensity at the end. The emotion is there. All I would really say is maybe just work on holding those notes at those parts where you increase the volume a bit and hold the words at the end of some of the phrases, like at 2:59 and the couple places you do that kind of thing afterwards. What do you think still needs to be changed?
  19. One thing I admire about you is how you're able to convey the emotion. In all of the covers I've heard so far, you sound like you mean what you are singing. I'm still working on that. Like Gnee said, when you go up there in full voice, the intensity is there, but the pitch is off here and there. Besides the pitch in a few places, not a bad attempt. Runs were okay. Sounds like the falsetto thing might still be there. Keep hammering it. This is a Mariah Carey song. It's good that you're challenging yourself by choosing songs that are not easy and trying things like changing up the melody. That's how you're going to get better.
  20. It's Bee Gees Challenge! Select a challenging Bee Gees song, of your choice, and cover that thing. Post your attempt in here! This one will go to March 17th.
