  1. Yeah, you seem to be talking about things along the lines of what I was talking about. I think there are levels with this stuff. I hear he's been having depression issues for a long time. Apparently his music helped loads of people who were feeling sad about things. Some of these people are people who I had no idea even listened to him. I guess the feeling is something we wouldn't understand unless we've been there. Also, it was apparently Chris's birthday today. I'd be surprised if he wasn't thinking at least a little about him. Who knows what got him to that point. He had kids too, just like Chris.
  2. Oh, you don't think they hung thenselves? I do, but I don't know what they could have been thinking. I've had depression before, but I don't call that serious depression. That was more like stuff happens that gets you sad for a while and then after a few months, you climb over it. If it's anything like anxiety though, logic doesn't do a damn thing. Any comment on what I said about "false cord" stuff? I saw you mention that before. I've heard other people get a similar sound, and that's apparently what they are doing. I heard Chester do it long before I heard anyone else, if that's what he's doing.
  3. He performed at Chris's funeral last month. I would be surprised if Chris wasn't on his mind when he decided to do this. Crazy thing when you come to the conclusion that you have nothing to live for.
  4. We lost another one. Chester Bennington, the lead vocalist of Linkin Park, has committed suicide. He was found hanging in his private home. He was only 41. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-40676530 I was never a super Rock fan, but this guy's voice made it easy. I remember as far back as 10 years ago, I loved his voice. It had a "robotic" quality to it. Today, I think the style that got him that sound is known as "false cord" singing. Apparently he was pretty great friends with Chris Cornell as well. They did a song here.
  5. LOL! This almost feels like deja vu. I was at work a few years ago, and this trucker walks in. He needs his phone fixed up. So I started doing that while he's sitting at the desk in front of me, and he says, "You know who you look like?" I said, "Who?" He said "You look like Eric Benet with nicer hair" I froze and my mouth was open for almost 10 seconds. He said he went to a few of his concerts. That guy was either psychic or I really do look a bit like him. I don't know which one is more likely. Thinking you've got some kind of connection to your biggest influence is really spooky stuff.
  6. Jeez! Good thing I just got some steel string vocal cords installed. That's never going to happen to me
  7. I know exactly what you mean by that. Funny how that could turn into an asset.
  8. You think she learned that or just naturally ended up with the habit?
  9. I doubt it. They don't care about that. They were probably making less money. The only way I see somebody paying for more than one month of access to a place where nobody is there to do what you paid for is if they forgot to turn off the automatic debit. Well, that's what happened to me.
  10. In my opinion, Singing Success is the worst training program. I had Singing Success and I even purchased the forum access. Singing Success consisted of a very small e-book, of about 5 or so pages, and a bunch of exercises on CD. No explanation as to why you were doing what you were doing. The implication was that you were supposed to do the exercises, and that's it. The forum was full of unanswered questions. Basically, it all looked like something constructed to reel people in and that's it. I wouldn't give them any money, because they do dishonest things like that. I don't know what anybody here charges. There are some very knowledgeable coaches here. You have to pay to play.
  11. Got a Ben Folds vibe going on there, J
  12. Cats, what are you saying? I have heard you twice. I've replied to at least one of your threads. Come on, let's relax. We don't need to argue. I can understand what you're saying about finding a teacher. I just had a recent issue with finding a guitar instructor. Personally, as for the subscribing to "Review my Singing", I wouldn't do that right now. You last posted just like 3 months ago, right? I'm not a coach, but if you're still doing exercises somewhat incorrectly, there's probably not a significant difference. What you just said about improving your internet connection for Skype calls is the best option anybody should take if they are serious about taking things to the next level. There are tons of capable coaches that you can reach online. Any of the coaches right here in this thread are capable of impressing you and teaching you. Once you have a great coach, it's all just practicing what they tell you. You will be well on your way.
  13. Well, I didn't doubt him. I've heard him myself. It just sounds like he had gained another octave since I last spoke to him, so I was curious. That's why I've gotten into the habit of recording myself a lot. Especially when I think I've just done something interesting, I'll try to whip out the phone fast and do it again, so I will always have it. Well, I thought you had an interesting voice. Particularly how you execute your runs.
  14. I forgot to do mine. F2 - G5 Just started looking at extending range the right way. I've hit A5 before but B5 is something I never touched until last week.
  15. Um...Jens? I'm just going to go ahead and ask before everybody else does....how????
  16. I'm not following. I've read everything you've typed. You still seem like you are rushing. You have to build your voice. It reminds me of one cover I was asked to listen to. It was about a 4-minute song. At the end, there were whistle notes. They were beautiful whistle notes. The problem was that you had to listen to her having pitch trouble for almost 4 minutes before she could use her trick. You should have basics coming together before you start focusing on the flashy stuff. So you would rather have a coach that has that background? Did you not know this before you started going to them? It sounds like you need to pick the right one. See if there are reviews for the next one you want.
  17. Is that how your coach told you to do those exercises? It sounds like you were trying to do something you've seen other people do without knowing how. Why would you think you don't have to do vocal work outs? That's like saying I want a burger with fixings on it and don't charge me for it. First, if you are randomly performing the exercises however you want to do them, rather than as instructed, that's going to limit your progress. You just said you shouted your way through the end of a recent one because you thought you were belting. Second, Dan just told you he's been performing for 25 years, and he swears by warming up. How many hours of exercises do you think he's done? How many hours of exercises do you think Robert has done to attain what he has? Did you think you'd be done training and be an accomplished vocalist in just 1 year? You have to slow down. You are new to this and you are being too opinionated. The skills and strength you develop from the exercises is what will allow you to kill those songs you want to sing. And even better than that, if you sing songs over and over again, you will slowly get better at it. However, if you do exercises, you will improve at a much faster rate. So, which one do you want? Do you want to improve at a snail's pace or a hare's pace? It's a marathon. I think Cats has two problems. First, he is moving too fast. He wants to jump to desired techniques and jump to singing songs. Second, it's like he keeps finding teachers who don't really aim to be the most helpful. He's made a few posts asking about things that his coaches should have been able to help him with.
  18. I thought this would be interesting. We've got some new members. What is your vocal range? Any recent gains to report?
  19. It's up to you. You can learn to sound like anybody.
  20. Are you happy with your voice coach, Cats? You were asking a couple of questions here before and we were thinking that your coach should have been able to explain those things to you. And that post you just made the other day about needing to practice F3 to C4. Why didn't he just record the notes for you and give it to you to take with you? I know if one of the guys here was coaching you, they would have done that for you.
  21. If you are serious about this, get yourself a keyboard. It will go a long way.
  22. He just told you, lol. And I told you already when you asked last week, lol. C4 is middle C. No worries though, I'll make you a quick track. Is it F3 to C3 or F2 to C3? Or C3 to F3?
