this is a song i recorded in my bedroom. a little pitchy as I felt melodyne took away from the vibe.

Hey Jarom, What's up? Sounds pretty good to me, but I like happy little tunes. Kind of sounds like something from the early 70's. Like John Sebastian or Randy Newman. Cool.

Having a well-rehearsed band definitely makes a difference! How are you arranging a band live currently? Backing tracks can definitely make a huge difference too, but, as you said, can come across a bit cheesy. However, it's all in how you do them.
My drummer always plays to a click, along with backing tracks. But teh backing tracks are just that, backing. We try to make sure anything that stands out is being played/sang live (even if along with the backing). For instance, we have 3 or 4 guitar parts, but 1 guitarist. He chooses the most prominent guitar part to play live. Bacling vocals also have 3 to 4 parts, but someone is always singing along with them. Keyboards are on backing tracks unless there's a prominent piano part of synth lead.
Another way I've seen it done is making a spectacle of having a backing track. I've seen the lead singer of a punk band do a solo performance on acoustic guitar. He set up a stool next to him with a mic'ed tape recorder. Pressing play gave him a light rhythm part and backing vocals, and everyone loved it. On a bigger scale, Trent reznor did the same when he performed on piano. All his beats and strings were on a boom box, placed on top of the piano.
In a band setting, I've mostly seen it done with vocals and keys, even on a pro level. Tesseeract's last singer, Ashe,  had very lush harmonies, but no one else was singing. Van Halen did an entire tour without a keyboardist, only keys on backing. Granted, one screw up on their song Jump, and it went viral in a bad way. The backing tracks were out of key. I've also seen some big label guys have people on stage with them faking it. Sadly, it was obvious.
The point is, backing tracks can work, if you find other ways to make the performance interesting and don't try to pretend it's live.

Jarom; I don't want to sound disrespectful or rude as I know you are a professional musician
But all your songs sound the same! and without you singing something a bit different with a different melody I just cant see you hitting the big time
Have you tired covering/ practicing other artists that you have done nothing like before, songs that you never though about before that my give you some new inspiration and new art.

Cool song! Your voice reminds me of the more famous male pop singers of the 80's. Your style of music is perfect for getting placement in movies and TV. That's a very viable and potentially very profitable career path and/or income stream.
I'm curious. Your placement is very much on your throat until you make edgier vowels sounds or go up in pitch. For instance, the first word you pulled up and forward in the song was "make". But in general you didn't lift the voice to the soft palate unless you went to higher notes. It gives an interesting and unique sound to your voice, but also a bit inconsistent. Did you do that on purpose? I'm not saying it's bad, just unique. The singer for Disturbed did very similar placements for their cover of The Sound of Silence.
I think working on keeping your vowels lifted more to the soft palate (possibly edged towards the hard palate) and away from speech vowels will make your voice more consistent in sound across the board. It would still go deeper into the soft palate as the pitch raises, but your tone, timbre, and breath support would be more consistent. The quickest way to tell the difference would be to smile (which naturally supports lifting of the voice) and also place a finger on your bottom lip and try to sing up and over it.

I just got back from the studio and just finished another song. The ep is coming together and should be released early next year. I am realy liking the way my voice has developed. When I first started I couldent sing above middle c and didn't know how sing anywhere remotly close to the pitch.

LOTS of Sob mode in your singing.... great range, intonation, etc..

Well done. And I could see this also getting synchro licensing on this. If the show were still going, this could be on "How I Met your Mother." I could also see it in a John Cusack movie. He's got the right melancholy look. It's funny, really, he and I are about the same age but he still looks so young.
Anyway, excellent song, excellent singing. Dude, you are pro. You are the next rock star people didn't know they were missing. I mean like how everyone is now going koo koo for 21 Pilots? That is you, next.
