  1. here is the line as it would sound as an adlib over the 2nd half of chorus chords https://clyp.it/ji0yjoj0
  2. hehe, I could get fancy and do some reharmonizing. In other words take that vocal line and just change the chords under it. good stuff. I did that on guitar a long time ago with the melody to the Star Spangled Banner lol....same melody over totally different chords
  3. the line at the end of the first verse "sometimes u feel like, u gotta get away"...is like my fave thing in the song almost lol. One thing about that line is the background chords go a little "out" of key as it builds. check it https://clyp.it/5eqrzpep the verse chords are F#m, Dmaj7, E...but then after the 2nd E it goes F#MAJOR with open B, D7th with open B....then prechorus is D7, E7 The F#major with open B is all exotic sounding but its really just the E chord slid up 2 frets lol That all being said, im not sure of the exact notes im singing in that line "sometimes u feel like"...but to me it works even if it has a slightly unsettling sound due to the shifting chords. Listening to the iso vocals it sounds pretty centered to me...I think it just sounds a bit odd over the shifting chord center for my ears, the tone on "you GOTTA" is the best tone ive put down so far. Is that a G#4? here is some of the iso vx with processing https://clyp.it/v1hanzcg nice error on the 2nd chorus, oopsy, I sang 'lord I DIDNT listen" and the double was "I WOULDNT listen" lol
  4. btw, on the verse was going for Coverdale again lol...hard to get his style down. I did learn some stuff on this one though about being close or farther from the mic. Getting right up on the mic helped on some parts
  5. listening back with fresh ears, the only line im iffy about is "I did not know it then" (1:50) I like the overall song as much or better than yesterday, which is a good thing. But id still say its not what I WANT to sound like overall...but it IS what I sound like so far lol
  6. u killin me with the Molly Hatchet references lol. I dont hear ANYTHING im doing that sounds like DJB. If someone paid me to try to emulate Danny Joe id have to do something very different than what im doing lol
  7. Im all about dat bass, bout dat bass, no treble. yeah, im just not up to that level yet
  8. ok champ...waiting on u to show me how. Whats your favorite song currently?
  9. Another 1 day wonder. not 100% finished...needs bass gtr and some ad libs such as in the intro chorus fun stuff https://clyp.it/ccf4wf40
  10. the "bridging" thing lol. The whole concept is sort of misplaced I think. One is singing certain notes...am I correct? If my passagio is around, say, E4...and then I sing a nice G4 in head voice (not falsetto)....technically I "bridged"....is this correct? I am assuming there are notes in this song that are not in anything else I have posted. If I hit a G4 or G#4 in head voice, I doubt I have done that before....before I think it would have had to be disconnected falsetto Therefore the bridging isnt supposed to be something one can hear is it?? its simply an ability to hit a note. Pretty sure after a while singers dont think about it much unless they are in a low head tone range where they might have a choice of bridging or using more force and just belting
  11. single tracked bare vx no compression, no nothing https://clyp.it/mn5tcvd1 some G and G#4 stuff in there. Definitely mixed voice because I wasnt trying to choke it up in chest voice...instead was trying to feel the note more on the palate the flip side to posting compressed/EQ'ed/double tracked vocals is posting bare stuff and then people just dont listen and they say your recording sux
  12. as far as the bridging part, it would only be noticeable that I am having an easier time hitting notes above the typical male bridge (without going into my standard falsetto mode) I think there is a g4 in there...maybe some other notes. After singing all morning I couldnt concentrate enough to discern the highest pitches and match them on piano lol. So instead of a choking sound around that g4 note, there is a little more freedom. Then again there is a HUGE difference between sirening thru the break and actually singing phrases thru it. This song had a lot of parts that I found hard to phrase The song wasnt lending itself as much to good long sustained notes
  13. for me that is like 1" from someone saying I should quit singing....but it is what it is. Thanks for the feedback I only had LS in my mind when trying to envision the song and somewhat when writing the lyrics. Its not likely i'll ever get the LS rhythm section feel. LS was like 7 dudes and a producer/engineer...i'm 1 dude
  14. https://clyp.it/sidridqg essentially trying to learn to bridge etc. Not sure how much bridging is happening but for sure I can feel the benefit of doing some glottal attacks and trying to feel resonance up on my soft palate etc When picturing the song was thinking of Lynyrd Skynyrd but nothing I do will ever sound like LS lol.....I ended up going for a sort of Mick Jagger bratty vocal style on the verse compression/delay/tube distortion/rev etc used on vocals verse not doubled (but delayed etc) the 1 prechorus is obviously doubled chorus is obviously doubled and delayed etc etc. Usually I double and leave both doubles about the same volume to where it sounds chorusy....on the chorus I kept one double a little quieter a VERY scratch demo. , no bass, , no bgv, only 1 guitar track..gaping holes where solos and vocal banter should be. Some nice spots left for Whole Lotta Love type improv. Guitar will have to be redone etc..ending patched up. I forgot to edit out the cymbal count in lol enjoy
  15. for me its the opposite. What I am feeling as "quack" (really mega duck sounding) is related more to a choking/squeezing feeling where I was using twang to try to squeeze out a note higher and higher but it just gets too tight and thats that. Its the feeling I get when near the top of my headvoice. Today at work I had a pretty solid breakthrough related to hitting higher notes and connecting better etc to do with feeling the connection and resonance more in the soft palate as opposed to just trying to squeeze harder and harder. I got a great feeling of squeezing the gut and having a good hard connection of air pressure all the way from the diaphragm up to the soft palate....and was picturing the sound coming off and bouncing forward off of the soft palate. That really helped me to avoid squeezing/choking when trying to get higher notes. All in all in the last 3 days or so my whole level of singing technique has taken huge steps. Its pretty exciting. Now I need to do some study to be able to identify exactly WHAT I am doing lol
  16. today at work I worked on hitting these connected head voice. notes and bridging up and down with waaaayyyy lighter mass/compression. It works that way too lol vowels. One thing that never comes up when people discuss vowels is....THE SONG LYRICS!!! arent the lyrics going to massively dictate vowel choices?????
  17. Thanks coach, things have been a little rocky the last 2 months but hopefully Im set to get back to consistent training
  18. Well, the inner producer in me could go a little mad playing with these sirens lol https://clyp.it/0zauxbs0
  19. yeah, I am going to have to experiment with the different approaches. On these sirens I was just trying to blast them out lol. Thats why I love a guy like John Sykes....dude sings all over the map, high, low, heavy, light and all with a lot of soul and you never get the idea he ever thought a nickels worth about technique, dude is just a great natural singer. Its just sickening...
  20. ok, serious question here. Ya'll have heard a few of my songs etc in the past and now these sirens. WHAT SINGERS CAN I EMULATE??? What I mean is, I love the late 80s hair metal guys like Mark Slaughter, Ray Gillen, Marq Torien etc. I want to eventually develop some of that sort of light airy high end sound BUT I think my natural range might be a little lower like sort of the Paul Rogers, Glenn Hughes or David Coverdale type range What do you guys think? (or do we need tons more singing examples? lol) In a certain sense I havent really actually sang anything yet because whatever I have sang had no bridging lol. The stuff I have sang so far has been either/or chest or head. So I want some general feedback and some guys I might could sort of naturally emulate so I can check their ranges and approaches etc any ideas?? thanks!
  21. ok guys, one thing about the strong volume and subglottal pressure etc.....as I said I JUST sort of "found" that supported headvoice yesterday at work. To find it I had to sort of concentrate and use some force, (whereas if I use unconnected falsetto I can do it lightly OR forceful) So when I did these sirens I went ahead and used a decent amount of force. I actually did the down sirens first and thats exactly why I did the glottal attack type of onset...so that I could sort of "pop" into that supported headvoice. So now it remains for me to learn to hit those notes with less pressure etc etc. As I was telling Bob, one thing I have gobs of is any type of subglottal/diaphragmatic/internal pressure which I developed back when I was doing powerlifting. When doing heavy squats you do the valsava maneuver and as you squat down the pressure just builds and builds and your gut expands out against the leather belt and that pressure helps you as you begin to come back up. The pressure builds so much that the superstrong guys get nosebleeds etc. It makes you feel like your head will pop off. I used to hold my breath and get that crazy pressure and when I finally released it id get a superloud exhale noise and sometimes actually make the throat/hard palate sore lol. So volume and support from the bottom up will never be a problem for me. What I will have to learn is to open up the resonances in my headvoice etc etc. I also have a pretty strong BeeGees type reinforced falsetto from goofing off with that stuff for years. So the weak point in me is the upper chest/headvoice blend and the good basic headvoice in itself
  22. ok, thanks for the extensive feedback! I felt a pretty big difference between the B4 and the C5. The A4 was pretty easy etc, the B4 harder but not TOO bad. The c5 was way harder. If I remember correctly, a couple months back when I first started training, I had hit F5 or F#5 with reinforced falsetto as the highest note I could hit In between recorded takes I think I did slide up to D5 once from the c5....pretty shaky though. I was trying to feel the sensation of letting go of some of the "quack" of those top notes to let the top note be lighter like a falsetto and I almost got it a few times but couldnt quite nail it. I was also trying a few ways to get the high falsetto to bridge into the head voice seamlessly or vice-versa....I got it close a few times As I was saying in my other thread, a lot of the late 80s hair metal singer that I like, they didnt carry a ton of weight, so I want to learn some of that style where they kept it a little lighter and really nimble. You ever listen to Badlands with Ray Gillen singing? This was the phrase that got me going this morning...where he pops up into "I know it's too late"....that was the phrase that I sort of found my connected headvoice with. "Seasons" snippet 1 https://clyp.it/ffooehfa and again in this clip, where he is singing soft but then pops over into the intense lines....ill be a happy dude (for 5 minutes anyway) when I can hit it like he did https://clyp.it/gab4vrpb We can all dream lol
  23. Well I definitely have some higher range left if I go to unconnected falsetto (reinforced falsetto, whatever lol). I just need to find a way to get it connected to my regular head voice. I assume there is a higher passagio. As far as carrying weight and different aspects of the physiology, I still have a lot to learn. Im sort of like a new boxer in the ring....im not aware of most of the nuances lol, im just trying to survive And no, I wasnt massively warmed up. I did a few light glottal attacks etc. I havent even been training....this was very very raw.
