  1. Hi folks! I'm new to the forum and found it when I was doing some research on a problem that I've been having for several years now. I'm hoping that someone might be able to help if they have ever experienced anything similar... Over the past 3 years, I have had the experience, during rehearsals and performances, where parts of my vocal range just stopped working...This sounds strange, but I really have no other way to describe it. Parts of my range seem fairly unaffected, but some notes just don't produce sound. There is no pain associated with this, and it typically affects the middle of my range, rather than the upper end, so it doesn't appear to be caused by straining to reach notes. When this started to happen more frequently, I started to see doctors to see what the issue was. I assumed that this was a problem with my throat/larynx, however, the various doctors seemed to think this was related to my respiratory system, as I was also experiencing an abundance of phlegm, but no other cold or flu-like symptoms. It did seem to be related because the problem was far worse during times when I was dealing with this excess phlegm... So, I started to see doctors pretty regularly, my GP, a respirologist, a GI specialist (they thought this could be a result of acid reflux), an allergist, an ENT...I'm sure you get the picture... I was tested for COPD, and asthma, and everything was fine, the meds I was given to try for acid reflux made no difference, and the ENT said that there was no damage to my vocal chords and nothing appeared to be out of the ordinary. I did have a reaction to grass pollen and dust mites when I was tested for allergies, and the doctors seem to be thinking that this is likely the problem, however, everything that I have been prescribed to help with this (symbacort, nasal spray, and now reactine) have worked sporadically at best, which makes me wonder if this is indeed the issue... I guess I'm wondering if anyone has ever had similar symptoms (and what was done about it), and/or if anyone can suggest anything else that I should be looking into to resolve this. Any and all help/feedback would be very greatly appreciated!
