  1. Hi, I'm new to voice work and I've bought a voice training book which explains how the voice works and how to train it. However, I'm stuck on the first exercise. It basically says that I need to lie down on the floor and scan my body for tensions and command those tentions to release but when I command nothing happens. I've tried this exercise a dozen times and it doesn't seem to work. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?
  2. Hello everyone, my passaggio is at B3-E4 and my chest voice is dark. It's not good for rock or pop cause is heavy and not pleasure. Some people told me I'm a tenor, others baritone but, is that possibile have a passaggio at B3-E4 beeing a tenor? It's possibile change the color of chest? Ty ...
  3. I am hoping to audition andI have to submit an online video. It's all accapella. Please give me your very honest feedback about my voice. Why does my tone change so much and sound so different? My chest voice to me sounds bad, like almost manly, but it is easiest for me to sing. While my head voice sound like it has a better tone, I get physically tired singing it and I can't seem to breathe right no matter how hard I practice from the diaphragm. Worse, my left side of the throat hurts sometimes. What vocal range am I? I noticed I talk very deeply and it hurts as well. I've always felt my voice is very 'bahh'bahh' like..almost gravelly. It doesn't have that crystal clear sharp voice I hear in most voices. How can i achieve that? Are my vocal cords damaged? My higher notes are unstable--it can either hit right or get REALLY pitchy. What am I doing wrong? What kind of voice/larynx/technique should i use to ensure a consistently good tone? What do you think are my biggest problems with my voice in your opinion? Lastly, which track do you think I should use to audition? Thanks for helping!! audition songs(in another langauge but i hope you don't mind): https://soundcloud.com/user-940698627/iu-ending-scene https://soundcloud.com/user-940698627/iu-dear-moon https://soundcloud.com/user-940698627/memories-of-the-wind-audiotrimmercom chest voice-just for reference: https://soundcloud.com/user-940698627/hero-mariah-carey
  4. Trouble with tone at end of song. Advice appreciated. Cheers. Erik Robles
  5. I used to have a very very horrible (much worse) singing voice but I have been trying and making progress in the last 1-2 years. However i have only been practising through singing women's songs.. It is so weird that it seems no guys songs is suitable for my voice unless they are very deep throughout, otherwise i could only sing the very first few lines and that's it. and for women's song I am not hitting the right key anyway but it sounds ok so I keep on practising that way. I have been wondering recently that whether my voice is really so bad and unbelievably deeper than the general guys that makes my voice impossible to sing guys songs well or is it that i just need more practice to reach where I want to be? I have recorded some tapes to show what I mean, one of the tapes is a song that I really like and hope be able to sing very well . I have the following question: After the first few lines in guys songs I always have to try my best to sing in my head voice/ pre sing the lines in falsetto (don't even know if I really know how to, more like weird sounds but allows me to reach high notes effortlessly indeed).. compared to the original singers my voice in guys songs is obviously so very thin and with lots of strains,.. they're like talking but I am like drowning.. am I doing anything wrong or is it stem from the quality of voice (too deep)?.. is my voice really so deep ???? or am I not even hitting the right key in the guys songs.. PLEASE HELP ME here are some demonstrations. sorry my voice was tired then while recording and I could not sing loudly in the environment.. but here you go the song that I really hope to be able to sing: orignal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QE1piGBS1sI me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DKX_O41RaI&t=140s When I sing women's song adele original https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_pIaI93YGY me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OZsyshlT1M another guys song example in english.. just to show.. really bad shawn mendes orignal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXEx0DyIMks me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq9zVMSM-nE please help me and tell me what am I and what should I do.... many many many thanks
  6. I am teaching a student right now who is working on coloratura exercises. Often times when the student starts to sing them higher and faster the pitch accuracy goes out the window and he has trouble hitting the notes in tune. Any suggestions for ways I can help this student?
  7. Never had a singing lesson in my life, but starting school in Jan. 2019. I can hit an A#1 in chest, A#0 in Subharmonics, and I've found a lower subharmonic that even takes it to a D0(I think?). It's also getting deeper and better by the day. I've only been singing (horribly I might add) for a few weeks. I cannot find any advice, practice techniques, digital Tuners, songs, etc. For this range.... Ive exhausted you tube on the subject. luckily I have a 2nd decent baritone range as well to help with vocal entertainment. Anyone that can help? I need a ton of work, but really feel there's something special there I need to build on and share.
  8. Hello! I'm Emily & I been into singing contests/performances since I was super little, then joined acapella at around 15 and have been in it ever since. There has definitely been a change in voice from 12 years old to now. When I was younger, my "technique" or sound was kind of the opposite we can say haha. I used to strain so bad! I do still feel some strain in my throat but that's after a lot of singing, and I do feel it is easier to sing the way I am now than in the way I was when I was 12 lol. In the video provided, I would strongly appreciate it if anyone can give a nice analysis on my register(is it chest??) and **anything** I could work on! one thing I am concerned about for the past few years is that I have a "beegees" feel (at least my dad said) to my voice no matter how low I try to sing. it sounds like an airy type of voice. I wanted to know if that could maybe be my natural voice or if it's a way of coping with the straining I used to put on my voice when I was younger. Or possibly if that's simply how my voice developed over many years. I do feel pretty natural singing this way. Thank you loves! https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Vuq-hOL_a9nLNrSqGOxSTwBp14qPZ0Eo https://drive.google.com/open?id=1-roCmLNo2wXBw2dwACmSPiZxF7ATR7M9 https://drive.google.com/open?id=1EsJbI8nJid0I7qpmI2M2s_Zv_fOr8ijF
  9. Please suggest me a good condenser mic (under $100) for recording vocals for my small home studio. I am currently looking at the AT2035 (condenser) and Behringer Ultravoice Xm8500, which is recommended by many people. What are your thoughts and maybe own experience?
  10. Hi. The past summer, I was singing very often. Not only was I singing often, but I was often growling and belting and generally using my voice very harshly. I temporarily lost my voice at certain times but then got it back after short rests and began singing again. At some point in August, I seemed to have really broke my voice. It was very raspy, breathy and I could hardly sing at all. I was very terrified of what I might have done, so I stopped singing and its been probably about a month and a half now. Now my voice is in very strange shape. I seem to have all my range back, but it feels I need to use extra power to use it, which I feel as tightness in my neck and head a bit. I also have some pressure points of pain in my head around my jaw, temples, and behind my ears. My throat is also sometimes sore, usually just when aggravated by talking a lot or loudly but it has not gone anyway. I barely started singing, because I am not sure if I have made a full recovery, so I have stopped singing again and its been about a week. I have had a cold or flu over this past bit of time, so perhaps that has strained my voice, but I think whatever I have now I have had since it all seemed to collapse in August. My speaking voice sounds mostly fine, however, it is just this strange mild pain that I sometimes have, and I sound my voice makes when I inhale. I have attached an audio file of this sound. I do not wish to sing in audio files out of fear of doing further possible damage. Any thoughts? Thanks. The sound quality isn't great but its the best I could get.rec_13s.mp3
  11. Hello, my 10 year old daughter is an aspiring singer. She is in voice lessons and has been in some musical theater productions as well. We understand she is not necessarily a "natural", but she does have the drive and desire and truly loves performing. Any thoughts or suggestions for improvements are welcomed to help her with her goal of becoming a singer one day? She has sung the National Anthem at a couple college sports events and a professional event. I am also including a link for one of her musical theater shows, Music Man. Thank you in advance! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUg--tK829M (National Anthem) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8lGocVKUHw (Goodnight my Someone)

  18. I always hear that if i do XYZ , my voice will be permantley damaged. I'm not some famous pop star so i can't afford surgery like Adele, i'm really worried that my voice might damage but at the same time i want to be more free with my singing voice and just try out new styles. How can i be sure that a certain technique won't cause permanent damage.
  19. I know the answer will be "No, don't give up" since you hear this everywhere. However if i'm not a great singer at 20, is it too late and am i wasting my time? I'm already an adult and i fear that i will never learn to sing really great. I mean, i like my voice. I have have nothing to complain. My only problem would be that i'm a baritone. I began singing on a regular basis around late 2014.
  20. I don't understand it. I mean i have fun singing but it's so hard to sing right. So many rules to follow, so many things you can do wrong. I've sang for some years yet i still feel that there are so many things i don't know about it.

  22. I know you all don't want to hear this negativity. I'm sorry. I've been singing for over 3 years now. Yet i'm so unsatisfied with everything. I feel i could be better and better and that there is some magic secret that i haven't discoverd yet. I always feel that i'm overrating myself. I can sing decent low notes and my falsetto is getting better although it needs improvment. Overall i'm happy with my voice. My main problem are the high notes. I've always neglected them in the past because i was a beginner and sang low. Now i try but it gets really hard. I always feel like i could have sung it better and better. Also when i found out that i was a baritone it was a bitter pill to swallow. Now i'm not sure. I'm 20. Should i stop singing or can i still improve my singing?
  23. Whenever i listen to a (*auto edit*) baritone i just want to fall asleep. Baritone singing sounds so boring. It's the biggest curse ever. God gave you a great deep voice yet you can't (*auto edit*) use it for singing. I would sacrifice my whole family for a tenor singing voice and i'm not exaggerating. Tenor voices sound (*auto edit*) amazing. Super interesting. My baritone voice sounds like shit. Singing a D4 is hard for me. I can't believe. Can reach G5 in falsetto but it means nothing. I want to be able to (*auto edit*) reach it in chest voice. Might kill myself i'm serious.
  24. This video explains why the standards for musicianship and some of the resulting music that is being produced is lowering in standards.
