Please review my singing voice

Hey everyone, I would love some insight from this forum.

My situation is, I don't know how much I will be able to improve my tone of voice and the fear of not knowing if there's a light at the end of this tunnel cripples me.

I am currently on my 6th singing lesson but I feel like even though I'm learning and having an easier time hitting notes, the actual tone of my voice hasn't improved. I cant even describe what I dont like about my voice to my vocal coach so she knows what I'm going for, I just think my voice sounds cringey.

So dear members, I have 2 questions:

1. How much can one really improve their tone of voice? Can it drastically change over time or will it always have this quality to it even if it improves?

2. How would you describe the sound of my singing voice, so I can know what to try to correct? What do you think I should work on to have a better voice?

Really hopeful to get some good insight, grateful for any answers.

Thanks!

Hello, welcome.

1 - A lot, there is tons you can do to improve aesthetics and quality. Yes you can expect a huge change.

2 - Right now is not sounding too good. On a  couple of spots you are sliding on the beginning of the words to get to the notes, and some of them you don't really reach, sounds a bit insecure, kinda like you don't have a clear memory of the melody in your mind.

Try sitting down on a piano and working out the melody of these verses, then memorize how it sounds like. It should help.

L5 means lesson five?

I have not realized I do that until now regarding sliding on beginning of words to get to the note. I will try the piano exercise tomorrow. Awesome, thanks for pointing that out. And yes, L5 is lesson 5.

Follow up question: On my 3rd lesson, after warm ups and all, we were trying to insert a "crying" voice in the singing. It wasn't changing my voice too much, but right at the end something happened which changed the characteristics of my voice completely for the rest of that day. It's like my voice fell into the right place all of a sudden.

The best way I can describe it is that my voice effortlessly sounded as thin as a violin string. Even when I spoke normally that day, the same quality came through. But I haven't been able to reach that again because I fell into it by accident. I have been trying for a few weeks now but I can't find it again.

I slept and my voice was back to normal again the morning after. Any advice on how I reach it again?

And since I achieved it once, will I be able to "permanently" get this voice if I work at it for enough time, or did my voice perhaps get fatigued or something like that which made it sound thinner for the day?

Thanks! (sorry for light clipping)
