Alittle brag

Went to my first country music festival on the weekend (remember, I sing jazz). I placed second in the local, losing to my good friend who is a great country singer. I was the first performer of the day, at 9am, and a third of the way into my piece (Crazy) the dodgy mic connection failed and I had to start again. Anyway, it didn't phase me - I love the stage. My friend and I also placed second in the duo vocal - we do a real nice harmony. We beat quite a number of seasoned campaigners, coming second only to a duo who do quite a bit of paid work (but are still classed as non professional). So we had a great time, got my first trophies and prize money every. Then we went to a lecture / workshop and private lesson with a contemporary voice teacher who has a phd in voice and is the head of contemporary voice studies at the conservatorium of music in Brisbane - and that was great too, What a great weekend!

Glad to hear you had fun! Who is that teacher, by the way?

Irene Bartlet. she has just finished her phd. She was amazing. Fixed peoples problems (in a masterclass at the workshop) in about 20 minutes. She would probably prefer if I said she helped people to fix their own problems. She most lovely and so quick to see to the heart of a problem.

Congrats.

I highly recommend festivals. We have (locally) 3 per year covering classical, theatre, hymn/psalm choral and others and many a student go to them. In one way it's unfortunate more coaches don't put in their students as the feedback from assessors is very valuable, not only for the student - but also for the teacher.

Nothing like winning your first 1st, good and inspiring. You also get to hear (and talk to other) students, find out who their coaches are and hear theor voices throughout the years on both good and bad days.

Well done.

Yeah! We so rock! Next year we hope to be able to stay for more events, but we placed in everything we entered this year so we were thrilled with that for our first festival. Thanks guys!
