Estef
Hi guys, I thought it would be very nice to start a thread where we can introduce new singers or singers that are not well known so we can all enjoy and hear new and fresh voices, and hopefully comment on their techniques, etc. This is not a really NEW band but I know not a lot of people have listened to them, and I think their singer is great. The Agonist, their singer is Alissa White-Gluz. Feel free to add any genre and comment!!!
MB20
Very cool idea for a thread! Was actually thinking of making a post about this guy but it fits perfectly here. Rody Walker from Protest The Hero. I think he's got a very cool voice and style, although I think he could be the kind of guy you either love or hate! His sound is very unique and the only comparison I could draw would be with Cedric Bixler-Zavala cica Mars Volta. Would be very interested to see someone break down his technique. This is the first single from their newest album released a few weeks ago. Cool video too!
akarawd
I'm always impressed by the command these people have over their voice. Especially Rody ... I'm hooked on his voice and Protest the Hero

VideoHere
they never got past a certain point but i love her voice. if jonpall is reading this i tried this last week, and this is an example of a run where you just have to "go at it" and support and manage your breath well but i had no idea where my tongue, larynx, eyeballs, feet, i mean i had no idea i just sang it...lol!!!! it a great vocal workout too. eggplantbren
What a great idea blackstar! I'll use this opportunity to promote the singer I'm obsessed with, who I've mentioned several times already, but isn't particularly well known. John Cowan, former lead singer of New Grass Revival. I'm not a huge fan of the gospel themes in this one, but the vocals are quite awesome.

I think you can get that type of sound with Jamie Vendera's full voice sirens. Basically, this is a singer singing in "full voice". Not much more complicated than that. However, I suggest you try to see how little breath support effort you can get away with and still get a full voice. Steven Fraser would tell you that you don't have to just physically SHAKE from the effort to sing like that.

Yeah, "Joey" was their biggest hit, but they had a lot of other good stuff. I wish there was a higher quality rip of this. She's great.
ronws
Ray Wylie Hubbard, a fellow texan. He wrote the hit song, "Redneck Mother," which was a huge hit for Jerry Jeff Walker. Ray is in the tradition of storytelling folk country singers. I've met him several times because my wife and he were friends a long time ago. He is a genuinely nice guy and all of his songs are from his heart. And he's been doing this a long, long time.

I have to admit I'm on the fence about female singers doing the extreme distortion, but she is really great and has great control. I love her voice and the music is totally awsome. Thanks for turning us on to this Blackstar.

Validar
Tom Englund from Evergrey. He's not going to win any awards for his range, but he has a distinct tone and style. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuXTITbhSVQ Charlotte Wessels from Dutch band, Delain. Roy Khan from Kamelot and Simone Simons from Epica

Great song, great singing. But I must also applaud the piquant syncopated jazz bridge. I like surprises and this one was well and tastefully done with no foreshadowing of it's arrival. Very much a Dream Theater sense of arranging.

VideoHere
Here he is again and you can see REALLY well how he's doing this: you know what really impresses me the most about this guy? that he is so "non-arrogantly" confident in his vocal ability. that he (in this video below as well) let's you see him practising not worrying about how good he is going to sound just letting it unfold.
