I'm new to the highnotes.

I just heard the first 1 minute of a Dragonforce song, and decided to try to sing a C#5.

I've been exercising my "tilt" the last 1½ month, so I know this is not good. I never was able to hit notes like that before, unless I was entering falsetto. But being able to hit notes like that now, is really motivating me to become AWESOME.

Basicly my question here is; for what I just recorded, is there anything you can hear in my voice, that needs to be changed for a better sound?

Ok, cool. I know Tony... I did a Master Class at the BCC about two years ago... he's cool. Tell him I said hi... you should be learning how to sing "high notes" with Tony? You should be learning how to bridge the Passaggio (vocal break) and sing in your head voice without sounding "Falsettoey"... ask him to help you to learn how to do that.

If you feel your not making the progress you seek, I can guarantee you that in three hours of internet lessons, I can teach you how, but first make sure that you are clear with Tony that that is what you want to learn. You can always contact me from my web site. www.TheVocalistStudio.com .

So your in the UK? cool... got lots of friends there.

I think that is what he's learning me at the moment, it is just I who wants to be able to sing highnotes, but I actually think that what he's teaching me at the moment is to bridge with the use of tilting and breath management :)

Thanks Robert, but I like the progress at the moment I've got with Tony!

I'm from Denmark, but skype is really awesome for this! :)

I wasn't suggesting you stop working with Tony, he is great. Actually, he may in fact be showing some things he picked up from me during our time together at the Master Class... Tony knows what he is doing. Glad you are getting what you need.

all i can say is, for heavens sake continue with what you are doing! Man that was a flawless easy C#

Haha, thanks man! Though there is a long way to go. All I can say is that these two videos made me do that C#. Now I just need to do it less "falsettoish" as Robert said. And I don't have enough breath support yet either.

Well, in that case, rofleren, give yourself some time. None of this happens overnight. Even if Lunte could teach you some things and you could learn, it would take some amount of time to make the technique take hold.

a lot of singers think that sounding good in reinforced falsetto mode is the way to go, (because sometimes you actually can sound good because of great audio or enhancement or whatever) but you will find you won't make it much further without learning to lean into the voice and engage more of your core and fold adduction. it takes a lot of work and time.

i started a post ("excerpts from a great book") which is talking to this exact issue.

Sounds geat!

I agree with Bob. You are doing a great job with the head voice. The only thing is that the C#5 is not vibrating your folds as deeply as the lower full chest notes. The C#5 is not falsetto, it sounds fully adducted to me and maybe "medium" depth of folds. You're at the stage of mastering the tilt. Once you've got that down you can work on vibrating the cords as deeply as the lower notes. That will give you more of a "chest" sound with bright rich overtones. Basically erasing any transition into head. One continuous chest voice.

But, as Bob says, it requires a lot of work. It didn't come overnight to me.

Thanks for the replies everyone :)

Basicly what my plan to do now is, trying to master the passagio and the tilt, after that I'm gonna think about vibrating my tilt/head/middle/whatever voice. One continuous chest voice is the way to go, I think aswell :)

Yea, well. I've been singing regulary for 2½ years, and the last 1½ i've tried to different warm-ups, strech outs, scales and so on. But I've only been able to tilt for 1½ month, so it's not very trained yet :) and only lately I've found the real importancy of breathing exercises and basics like that. I'm planning to be able to enter a music conservatory when I'm ready, hopefully in 2-3 years at max, and then use 4 dedicated years to learn A LOT about singing :)
