wow! tough call...i'd say it depends on the audience demographics. i don't know about a standing ovation, some are too drunk to stand....lol!!!

they seem to respond favorably to these

if it's a rock audience? "cold as ice" , mrs. jones & me, "thank you" (led zep), "somebody to love"

if it's a black audience? "i've been loving you too long" , "don't play that song for me", "i believe in you and me" , "at last"

if it's an senior crowd? anything old....lol!!!

and once they feel you're halfway decent you get requests. so be ready for those....lol!!!!

Billy Idol seems to go over well just about everywhere. Most of the local bands where I am have at least one of his songs in their setlist.

As for me, most of the local karaoke joints aren't terribly rock friendly, which is fine with me. It gives me a chance to do songs that the knuckleheads I play with won't touch.

I'll usually go with Seal's "Kiss From a Rose" or George Michael's "Father Figure".

Damn, that was pretty slick. Loved it. There's nothing cooler than when a song gets an "extreme makeover", and it works. Very often, it doesn't.

But yeah, George really shines with jazzy arrangements. He's also done an incredible version of "I Can't Make You Love Me".

Yeah it does depend on the audience lol. If there are a lot of black girls then I would probably do "How Come You Don't Call me Anymore" Alicia keys version, and "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley. If there are a lot of white girls "Walk Away" by Kelly Clarkson seems to get their attention and "Crazy Bitch" by Buckcherry is good if people are drunk and/or not old.
