TMV World Legacy Member napoleonboot Posted August 11, 2011 TMV World Legacy Member Posted August 11, 2011 Me singing an original Rock number, "There Was A Party" [LINK UPDATED ON 13th AUGUST] http://www.box.net/shared/xd62ifmh9c5lytnaffpc All constructive criticism is welcomed Again, this was again created with my friends on www.musicianscollaboration.com George George can often be found playing electric stringy things, and singing... TMV World Legacy Member napoleonboot Posted August 11, 2011 Author TMV World Legacy Member Posted August 11, 2011 Well.. lots of people viewing the topic but nobody with any comments? It sounds to me like I have a slightly odd accent. Maybe I do... for my first 20 years I lived in Shropshire UK, between Birmingham and Wales, but in the 25 years since then I've moved all round England. I'm not trying to sing with any particular accent. I dont think I articulate "look at you" very well at 2'00, if I'd spotted it when I tracked, then I'd have punched in that line, but I didn't, and it's not bad enough to retrack it all again. I find that I have to track the whole song in one recording session because my voice changes between sessions, and if I retrack selected bits later they don't match. This is about the first track l've ever sung on where I am actually proud with the results. Mind you much of the credit should be with the great musicians I worked with who on MCS did the rest of the track! I wish I sounded like some other dudes (Ian Gillan, David Civerdale, Glenn Hughes, and so on), but it turns out that I sound like me and they sound like them, and I am coming round to thinking that I have to focus on making the most of what I can do and not imitate anyone else. I hope that doesn't sound too much like philsophical clap-trap George George can often be found playing electric stringy things, and singing... TMV World Legacy Member ronws Posted August 12, 2011 TMV World Legacy Member Posted August 12, 2011 Well, if you picked a file site that worked so that we could hear your stuff, you might get more comments. This is a different site you have linked to than before. I click, wait for the counter to get to zero seconds and then no play link appears. If you want people to hear your stuff, you might try box.net of dropbox. Those sites are really simple and rarely fail. Dropbox costs nothing and doesn't make you wait.
TMV World Legacy Member gno Posted August 12, 2011 TMV World Legacy Member Posted August 12, 2011 George - I'd like to listen, but if I try to download from a site that takes me to other pages, and then it wants me to download a codec, etc., I just quit. Most people here are using a site that you click one button and it starts playing. Box is one that people here use often. My Music:http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=897808
TMV World Legacy Member napoleonboot Posted August 12, 2011 Author TMV World Legacy Member Posted August 12, 2011 guitartek, thanks for the advice here it is. TMV World Legacy Member napoleonboot Posted August 12, 2011 Author TMV World Legacy Member Posted August 12, 2011 Our producer just finalised the mix, so I updated the links to the mp3 above. He's much better at mixing than me. George can often be found playing electric stringy things, and singing... and then this happens
TMV World Legacy Member gno Posted August 13, 2011 TMV World Legacy Member Posted August 13, 2011 Sounds great! Excellent production and mixing. I like the clean guitar + the heavy distorted guitar. Very nice. You've got a cool rock vocal style. I can't really give any suggestions as your style is perfect for this song. Is there something you'd like to improve with you voice? TMV World Legacy Member ronws Posted August 13, 2011 TMV World Legacy Member Posted August 13, 2011 I liked the jazzy rhythm. It makes me think of David Lee Roth from the "L'il ain't enough" era. This sounds like something he could have written. I like the drama you have in your voice. You're not just "singing" to hit a note. You are telling a story. And that is what singing is about, in my opinion. Well done.
TMV World Legacy Member napoleonboot Posted August 13, 2011 Author TMV World Legacy Member Posted August 13, 2011 The lesson I take away from this is that the trick to good vocals is to pick songs which are well written and suit your voice. I'll try to continue that approach in future. George George can often be found playing electric stringy things, and singing... People think I'm lazy when I say that certain voices sound best on certain songs. So, good luck to you George. May the Force be with you, always.
TMV World Legacy Member mvrasseli Posted August 13, 2011 TMV World Legacy Member Posted August 13, 2011 Nice song, good luck to you. Blog ɸ Jamendo
