analog
Bobbi jo, very cool! As the resident Van Morrison fanatic, I have to add Van's live Berlin wall performance(as heard on soundtrack of Departed.) and if I stay true to the theme, Scissor Sisters:
ronws
The greatest rock song of all time, at least according to KZPS 92.5 in Dallas, Texas, for many decades "Stairway to Heaven" originally by Led Zeppelin "Stairway to Heaven" performed by the Foo Fighters, led by former Nirvana drummer, Dave Grohl. And, by yours truly, humbly, ronws. http://dl2.dropbox.com/u/8750209/STH%20-%20live.mp3

ronws
"Gethsemane" as made most famous by actor Ted Neely, who was in the movie, "Jesus Christ, Superstar." "A drummer who could hit a few high notes." Will Scott, one of Robert Lunte's students. "Gethsemane" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KFjgc8BJWI From Maestro Lunte, himself. This performance inspired me to resurrect my performance of this song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcQJw92TkIA Finally, my own unplugged campfire rendition. http://dl2.dropbox.com/u/8750209/Gethsemane.mp3

VideoHere
i'm on a roll.......notice in john frusciante's version, for those who are still having a hard time with twang, it's used very skillfully throughout this song to add more bite and core to these tones. then last, janis just knocks this out of the park nodules and all. KillerKu
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EspAzP4NRxE&feature=related Youthful, exuberant, sweet, with just a hint of the ominous nature of childhood ending with so many new possibilities being opened up along with the dark complexity that lies beneath the idealized version of young love, coloring what could otherwise be a saccharine song. Unhinged, exhilarating, a gut wrenching, near desperate plea to someone you love, to be there, through thick and thin, through sanity and insanity, sickness and health, through every flaw, strength, weakness, and vice. I love them both. But relate to Lennon's performance just a bit more.

ronws
Don't have a clue about the moustache. But gosh, just when I thought I was through thinking about covers, now, I want to go ahead and cover this song. But, now, let me reveal a hope that I had. Posting this song, I secretly wished that Jens would go ahead and post his rendition. He has pointed out a few times that he did this in Karaoke. Not only the magical moments thread, but in the thread where someone asked, if you were thrust on stage to do a karoake, which songs could you rely on? He mentioned that "I Believe in a thing called Love" as one of the few. Now, I am totally aching to hear that. Yo, Jens, what up? Grace with some fine whistle. Validar
After seeing the Robin Zander clip, I've realized he should have been mentioned in my "truly underrated singers" thread I started months ago. Cheap Trick is certainly a household name, but I rarely hear Robin spoke of in conversations of great singers. Here's another version of Nights In White Satin from Celtic Thunder. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Dk-WxRKzK0
